Just what I needed

Attempted to use the 1/2-13 Die to cut new threads. 1/2-13 nut I had did not screw on. Borrow a die from someone else, which clearly cut deeper even though I had run the 1/2 die over the entire blank. Female thread screwed on just fine after using the 2nd (borrowed) die. Havent tried all of the other dies but not interested in the set if the very first die i used couldnt cut new threads. Probably usable for cleaning up existing threads. The handles are pretty cheap feeling but about what is expected for this price point. Taps and Dies themselves feel decent quality.

Very easy to use in the numerous jobs i had on my car. Making a snug home for all new bolts was easy. Great product.

First of all, my order arrived earlier than anticipated. Even though I haven’t used these tools yet, I am impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of them. All were engraved with the size and encased in a convenient plastic case. After careful consideration, I chose this tap and die set for all of the above reasons. The excellent reviews and low cost also factored into my decision for purchasing this particular set.

Look, you get what you pay for but with that said, this kit can deliver to an average DIY’er. If you’re looking for industrial use or even moderately heavy use, go with something a bit more expensive. But comparing this to even “middle” tier Irwin kit, it’s on par. Proper understanding and use is critical to not only this kit, but any kit you buy. You need to make sure you use the proper sized drill bit for your hole, understand how different metals and their thickness can impact the tool itself, use proper cutting oil, go slow and these will work just fine. We use Klutch brand taps at my job and we tap metals from 3/16in all the way to 1 1/2in thick and tap holes as large as 5/8-11. We use a pneumatic tap arm so it’s less work for us but guess what? Those expensive little taps break on us all the time too. As for the case issue people complained of. Mine came in great shape and in order. I’ve messed around with it jiggling it and flipping it and only a couple of the smaller taps have came loose inside the case. For a homeowner/DIY’er, this kit is the best bang for your buck.

This was a great deal for such a nice, complete set of taps and dies both SAE and Metric. At this price, every homeowner should have one in their tool box. I guarantee it will see more use than what you originally ordered it to fix! :)
