I enjoy being able to control the wifi especially since my family is using it constantly without ever turning their devices wifi connection off when not at home or going to bed. Its got a boost mode for certain things like gaming and entertainment such us Netflix or YouTube.

Replaced an RT-AC68U Asus router - which covered a significantly larger area. While this router had more features it was not as powerful in range, bandwidth as my older router which cost less. Disappointing,

Update 6/3/2022: There is now RMerlin firmware for us non-gamers that is the normal Asuswrt admin GUI UI for the GT-AX6000. No more garish red, black, and white UI colors, not to mention removing all those gamer settings that I dont need or want to see. Works just as well in its role as a wireless router with RMerlin firmware. Although, the new firmware doesnt make the router itself look any better *smile*, that teenage game enthusiast physical design is the gift that keeps on giving. ==================================== Very happy with the wireless performance of the GT-AX6000. Our internet speed tier is 500/500Mbps (fiber), provisioned at about 620/620Mbps. Typically see 580 - 600Mbps in our living room using my iPad Pro (wifi-6) with this router, all the way across our house from the router in the family room. Using the latest Asus firmware release, the GT-AX6000 has been stable and trouble-free. Great performance and stability, its a keeper for me. Okay, now for the other things *smile*. The thing is huge, and looks like a cross between home plate and an alien spaceship. The antennas are humongous, color scheme of red and black is just a little garish. Looks like it was designed by an eighth-grader given carte blanche to design the most pseudo-modern thing that they could conceive of. The web admin interface is also garish with red and black all over the place, and is considerably harder to navigate than the regular (non-gaming) Asus web interface. Categories are refactored and spread out in the interface, making it less compact and decreasing usability. That eighth-grader had a blast with it. Anyways, Im clearly not a gamer at heart, I just want the settings and information to be easily accessible, which the normal Asus interface is. Not this one. Asus could simply have taken their normal web interface and added a couple of gaming-oriented categories to it, but no, that would be too simple of an approach. So my overall assessment is that this router is great for what you want a router to do. On the other hand, secondarily for me, the appearance of it and the appearance and usability of the web admin interface leave a lot to be desired. I suppose Im getting used to it, but itll be an eyesore for as long as I keep it.

Replaced a Netgear Nighthawk X6 (R8000) with the Asus router. Netgear router was flaky, constantly throttled WiFi throughput and the user interface was clunky. The Asus gives me near 100% throughput with AT&T gigabit fiber on both ethernet and WiFi, has an intuitive user interface (both on browser and iPhone app), and is actually smaller than the Netgear. The Asus was very easy to setup behind AT&Ts Arris BGW210-700 modem/router. As I have only had the unit for 1 week, I can not report on long-term reliability or tech support.

Im moving to a new location and as part of the move Im dismantling my Ubiquiti Unifi system due to the need for certain components remaining in my current home. I bought this router for short term use in the house Im renting where I will have 1Gbps broadband cable internet, but I decided to setup/test in my current house which has 1Gbps symmetric FTTH. With the plain out of box configuration and a single computer WIRED (not wireless) directly to a LAN port on this router I get about 900Mbps download but only 50 Mbps upload. The same computer connected directly to my service providers equipment does 940 Mbps download AND upload. The same computer connected directly to my old Ubiquiti USG also does 940 Mbps download and upload. Im in the process of contacting Asus tech support, but I cant see myself keeping this router. I shouldnt need to do anything special to get basic wired connectivity out of the box. So, this router looks cool, has a lot of marketing hype, but its hot garbage. Update: I contacted Asus support after the following troubleshooting steps. 1) Default reset of router and power reset of providers equipment 2) Upgrade to latest firmware 3) Downgrade to previous firmware (all versions) 4) Speed tests run on all 5 LAN ports 5) Speed tests run via wifi 6 client 6) Speed tests run from router itself * All cables were the same used for baseline testing done with my previous router where 940Mbps Up/Down was observed. All tests resulted in <50Mbps upload <=900 Mbps download. Asus tech’s assessment…bad LAN port. WHAT?!?! If anything these tests indicate a bad WAN port OR maybe poor negotiation between the router and provider’s hardware. Maybe I just got a bad router, but if this support experience is the norm then I’ll have to pass. I’d recommend looking elsewhere. As an network professional of nearly 30 years I haven’t found any consumer hardware more stable and reliable than Ubiquiti.

I do not have anything negative to say about it. Ive had Netgear for years and over the years they have made setting up their wifi a headache. If youre tired of dealing with Netgear this is a excellent alternative.

Excellent product. Setup was simple with the Asus app. No issues so far with the smart switch or the 160MHz bandwidth.

This router really shines when it comes to thickness. Its plenty thick. The gaming modes and wifi signal are strong. Where it really shines is the asus firmware and settings panels. So if you need a fast router get a thick one!
