Monitor review will begin with a * infront. So let me first start off by saying this is my 2nd Asus VG248QE. The first one was delivered but within 10 mins of being on my step, police think someone followed the delivery truck and jacked it. It arrived apparently with the monitor not in another box but just a big box with a handle displaying your beautiful monitor. Niceee. So I now have no monitor. After 3 days investigation with USPS and Amazon and the Local PD. We conclude that it was stolen right under my nose while I was home and on my way to grab the box after hearing my text alert. Amazon, thank you again for being 5 star and not only handling this matter but sending me a replacement. I have it now. Its setup and Im just so thrilled. Its beautiful and Im blown away by the clarity. Amazon I will be a customer for life for your awesome and understanding service representatives. Conclusion! Watch packages carefully and set up custom delivery instructions or a safety box to deliver your merchandise safe and sound to prevent this. I bought ring cameras with solar that are rechargeable, wireless, and 1080p. You can get them on Amazon aswell for 220 roughly. Theft wont occur ever again at my step! *monitor is heavy but light. Its a solid quality build. No dead pixels. The visuals are night and day and I was using a pretty good fairly new 60 inch by sharp aquos with 4k. I actually see how a smaller monitor is better for fps! And my oh my do I love this monitor. And yes it flips sideways! All in all. Just buy this one!! PS thank you Amazon for making this difficult transaction very easy!!! P.S.S. whoever stole my monitor. I hope you use it to the full potential and it helped your family out. For those of you that wanted a 144 Hz/1ms delay monitor for a good price, this monitor does the job. Please keep in mind that out of the box it does not come with a display port/DVI-dual link cable, so you will need to buy those as well if you want to reach 144 refresh rate. As other reviews said the monitor does have washed out colors, I used the settings below (courtesy of Reddit) which helped it a lot. Settings: -Theater mode -Contrast = 83 -Saturation = 42 -Color temp = user mode with all three set to 83 -Skin tone = natural -Sharpness = 50 -Trace Free = 40 -ASCR = On Getting 144 Hz on Windows 10: Also note the monitor will default to 60 Hz out of the box, even with a new cable. To change this on Windows 10 (with creators update) go to display settings, click display adapter properties, and then click the monitor tab and select the refresh rate you want. (if you have more than 1 monitor make sure to have the right one selected before trying to change the settings). Overall, for the price, its a good monitor, arrived quickly and in good condition. Will probably buy a second one to replace my other monitor, Overwatch looks great on it.

Since I dont buy games for $60 when they are released (I wait until they come down to a reasonable price on Steam), I dont have any current gen games. Therefore, most of my [older gen] games at max settings run above 60 fps on my gaming rig, putting this monitors high refresh rate to good use. I must have poor vision or something, because I do not have any complaints about the color that everyone seems to be going on and on about. I own several monitors of different panel types (IPS, VA, TN) and this one does not seem to be significantly inferior to any of them. But then again, I am an audiophile rather than somebody who knows much about color. PROS: I dont need to repeat what others have written. You may want to read this article about refresh rate before purchasing: maximumpc.com/refresh_rate_2013. You can probably trick yourself into thinking that 144Hz actually makes a difference (much like a placebo effect). CONS: [1] the speakers. ASUS should have just not bothered. They can make a nasty whine depending on what is onscreen, so youd better plan on using headphones or some other alternative to the speakers. [2] cable length. The money that ASUS spent on adding the speakers should have been put towards longer ones (both the DVI cable and the power cord were so short that I had to change my desk setup to accommodate them). Obviously these are not cons that are enough to knock a star off the total score for the monitor, as you can simply buy a longer cable and not use the speakers. I purchased three of these monitors for a Surround setup, currently in portrait. The included base is intuitive and stylish, allowing one to rotate from landscape to portrait by simply turning it. I originally had the three of them mounted onto a frame and displayed in landscape mode, but the ultra-wide 5780x1080 resolution was a bit jarring and far too unsupported. Presently, theyre all set up in bezel-corrected 3950x1920, and its quite the theatrical experience. Everything I play now is HUGE, equivalent to a 44 inch TV with 6 million pixels. The bezels are reasonably thick, but for the amount of screen area you get, arent too bad. Keep in mind that running three of these in 144Hz mode requires at least one of them to be run through DisplayPort for it to function properly. The 1ms response times and refresh rates are definitely noticeable and desirable over other panels, but the crowning feature of this monitor and other 144hz models are the LightBoost support. Check it out, as itll change everything. Im removing a star for the color reproduction of this monitor. Its a TN panel, so the colors tend to be overly bright and washed out. Turning on LightBoost and strobing makes everything dimmer but much easier on the eyes. Ive got the strobing feature turned on across all three panels. Still, I cant help but feel that the colors seem slightly off from what Im used to. Its taken quite a bit of work to get to a setting that I can universally enjoy. I purchased this particular monitor over the BENQ model in anticipation for Nvidias G-SYNC technology. If that releases as a do-it-yourself module, Ill update this review with my impressions of that technology.

Pretty good monitor for 1080p gaming. Would recommend if you are using with headset or external speakers, the internal speakers are quite low audibly.

****** IMPORTANT ****** Before I start - As everyone has said on these reviews before, the colors look very pale and washed out once you get the monitor. I highly recommend that you Google or go on YouTube and search for this specific video ASUS VG248QE Color Settings / ICC Profile (and discussing lightboost). The uploaders name is Static Sleet and the video was uploaded in October 2015. There are other websites that teach you how and some Reddit threads that do the same, but this video is extremely straightforward on what you should do as soon as you get your monitor out of the box. Now, I was very hesitant in getting this monitor because Im a pretty cautious consumer and read all the one star reviews. I was so afraid of being one of the dead / stuck pixel receivers, but whew! Everything is perfect. I just upgraded from a 20 inch, 60hz, and not a 1ms response time monitor and the difference is staggering. I have this new one and my old one set up side by side and its like night and day. This monitor is much more bright, vibrant, and crisp than the blurry and dull image I see on the old monitor. The box was well packaged and the monitor very secure, and there are no scratches or any parts bent / out of place. Sure, its not one of the more expensive 1440p models that boast G-Sync and yada yada, but if youre on a budget constraint that allows you only to get monitors around 300-400$, this is a steal. So, if youre like me, stop looking at the $600 - $1000+ monitors and narrow them down to two models - this ASUS VG248QE or its 27 counterpart, or the BenQ Zowie XL2411Z that is probably the other one youve been looking at. The only thing that you should do now is go on Google / YouTube again and search BenQ XL2411Z vs ASUS VG248QE 144 hz Monitor Comparison - Which is best for YOU? by Gus Tech. As you can see through the comments and other sites that pit these two versus each other, ASUS blows BenQ out of the park when it comes to picture QUALITY (color, vibrance, etc). The BenQ is claimed to be more efficient however in games because it stays true and strong in those parts of FPS shooters like CS:GO where youre turning around corners and shooting people very quickly. As a FPS fanatic, I can tell you that it is not noticeable at all. It was a no brainer for me to choose the ASUS model after looking at the video I just mentioned because a little efficiency is not worth sacrificing an amazing picture for. Unless youre some world champ shooter that somehow notices this little difference when youre turning around corners, youre not going to notice any difference in those terms at all. The BenQ colors are just terrible. I wouldnt want to play video games to be better if Im not going to like what Im looking at, and you probably dont want that either. Also, one thing I was debating on before getting this model was whether or not I should get the 27. My 20 is so tiny and I was so sick of it, so I thought - the bigger the better. However, I looked up Is a 27 monitor and 1080p worth it and the results werent that great. Many said that you would notice a loss of quality almost immediately unless your computer is extremely far away from you and to the back of the desk, but that wasnt me because my monitor is sitting only an arms length away. I also read on Reddit from people with 27 models that it was simply too big for them and they actually got worse at high speed video games because their eyes couldnt keep up with everything that was going on in the corners and sides of the screen. So, following that advice, I got the 24 because the quality would seemingly be at perfect balance and not stretched out onto a 27 screen and because I didnt want the problem of not being able to see everything happening if Im playing a fast-paced video game. Im very glad that I listened to them! Im actually having trouble sometimes keeping up with this screen too because its also very big when an arms length away. If I had a 27, it would be great for watching some movies far away but.. not at all for games unless you have additional eyes beside your ears. An added bonus with this is that youll be saving 50$ too (by not getting the bigger model)! Overall, I think you should get this VG248QE if your budget falls around here and youre looking for an entry-level 144hz, 1ms, 1080p monitor. Yes, there are lots of one star reviews because of misplaced pixels, but I can tell you after hours of searching for monitors before I got this one that there is only ONE monitor I found with only 4-5 star reviews - and it cost 2300$ and only like two or three people actually reviewed it.. Every monitor you come by will have problems from consumers such as dead pixels, power failures, the monitor simply dying, buttons falling off, etc. The VG248QE will have a lot more of these simply because of the sheer amount of people that have bought this over the years. When youre producing a lot of these monitors, obviously some are bound to fail. but this model, as you can tell, is always holding strong near 80% five star reviews - which is a lot higher than other monitors that I have seen on Amazon. Just pray that youre not in the 20% and buy it. Dont press your back button and go to the BenQ. Just get it!! Oh, and a lot of people seem to not be getting DVI-D cables with their orders so I read those reviews and got the gold plated, ferrite, DVI-D cable that is under the products frequently bought with this because I thought I wouldnt be getting one. Well, I did get one with the monitor. So, take that with a grain of salt; you may or may not get one.

Ive had 1 of these for a few years and the color finally became less yellow due to aging or something. I really noticed this cuz when I got another to match the other due to Windows being crap about 2 monitors with different refresh rates, the new one was VERY noticeably more yellow than my old original one. Im not sure if itll help but Ive put discord light theme on it and have shut off screen sleep and hopefully in a week or 2 the yellow tint will go away. Im not sure how long it took for the other cuz I never really noticed that itd gotten better till I got the new one. Also I dont know if it was cuz of a bad built in HDMI splitter on the Hauppauge Colossus 2 capture card, or just the fault of the monitor, but I had an incident where there was a blue line through the screen and nothing would fix it until I completely unplugged the monitor from the wall. Now it works fine for the most part except when my computer is off for days at a time. I was out of town for almost 2 weeks and came back and the monitor was not getting a signal until I completely killed all power. Ive had to do this multiple times, I guess it could be a bad capacitor or something Im no electronics expert. Just if you have blue lines or no signal even though you are sure there should be just unplug for about 10 seconds and it should be fixed. Just hitting the power switch will not do however.

Definitely the best monitor I have ever used. I would say this is tied with my mouse (deathadder 2013, huge upgrade from my s***ty stock mouse) as the best upgrade Ive gotten for my gaming setup so far. Even moving the cursor from this to my 60hz display on the side of it you can see noticable mouse lag. The 1ms input lag for this display, in addition to the 120hz and lightboost (greatest thing ever, incredibly clear movement) there is almost no lag at all in what youre seeing. I play competitive tf2 in the esea, and I can pretty safely say this has let me improve a lot. Though I was decently good before I got this, I feel like I have a MUCH better visability and grasp of movement/aiming with this. Its really like going from a tiny little SD television to a giant flat screen HD, everything is so much clearer and visible. The one downside I have found is the colors and scan lines. Without lightboost the colors are great, you can find a couple sites with drivers and special settings to use for this monitor, however with lightboost on everything is washed out and purple tinted. Ive gotten used to it but it may be a surprise at first. Ive been using the program flux which changes the color temperature by time of day to try and offset this and it looks much mroe natural now. With lightboost as well you can see visable scan lines across the screen. You can probably look up google images or threads about it to see examples. Im not sure if mine is just faulty or all of them do this but it is not that big of a deal, unless you have the monitor right in front of your face. Love the adjustable height and swivel, power button is really easy to hit haha and the built in timers and crosshairs are pretty cool.

I was on the fence buying a TN panel display. I mean come on, its 2017... I can get the same 24 IPS display I bought 5 years ago for half the price I originally payed for it, and half the price of this TN panel. But reading the reviews and studying up on higher framerates, on top of playing competitive pvp games led me to picking up one of these when I needed to replace my main display. I bought into the hype... AND OMG was it worth it. WOW 144 Hz what a difference. IMMEDIATELY after setting the monitor refresh rate on my NVidia GTX 1060 to 144 Hz I knew I made the right choice. I sat there in awe moving my mouse around the screen so smoothly and crisply. You wouldnt think youd pick up the difference but I can easily see it just by moving my mouse around on my new and old monitors side by side. Obviously gaming-wise the difference is just as well, Battlerite at 144Hz is perfection. Color-wise, no doubt this panel competes with my old IPS ASUS displays (VE247H & an older VH236H). Side by side I dont even notice a difference after tuning the settings and colors, if anything the blacks look even better on the VG248QE. Im stunned. Just know that, like all of the ASUS monitors Ive used, the VG248QE needs some significant tuning to get the colors / levels set correctly. The last thing Ill talk about is the stand. My older ASUS monitors have fixed stands with no height adjustment or rotation. The added advantage of the rotation and height adjustments are super nice and I didnt realize what I was missing. The base of the display has an integrated rotation feature, really high quality.
