> 3 dayThis is my first monitor I have purchased since college years ago. Let me begin by giving a TL;DR: Excellent introductory 144hz monitor that has terrible color profiles out of the box. Let me begin by saying that this is my first 144hz monitor, and I couldnt be happier with my purchase. The response time is excellent and the refresh rate makes for buttery smooth performance for gaming, as well as day to day windows and linux use. The build quality is nice, and I quite like the stand for what it is. Its easy to adjust the height with two fingers, and the swivel on the bottom of the monitor stand has been a great for convenience. One thing that I didnt notice immediately was how terrible the calibration on this monitor is out of the box. It is EXTREMELY bright, and the color accuracy is lacking. Dont let this get you down, though. A few quick Google searches will reveal forum posts that explain how to set up windows color calibration profiles properly for this monitor. After following a few guides and tweaking my color and gamma settings, everything looks much, much better, and my eye strain due to the brightness was reduced greatly. This isnt a huge deal, but for the average user who has the take what you get mindset and doesnt think to calibrate the monitor, its worth mentioning that you shouldnt settle for good enough here. Your mileage may vary slightly, but it is definitely worth calibrating this bad boy. In the end, my significant other became jealous of my fancy new monitor. She loved it so much that we went to a local store and purchased a second one for her gaming rig as well! (I didnt want to wait for the device to arrive via Amazon. I know, I know.) Highly recommend. Rating 4 stars due to the poor color and brightness calibration out of the box. Other than that, this thing is bang on. Great job Asus.

> 3 dayLets address a few things. This monitor delivers on speed, hands down. If you play online multiplayer games like Battlefield 4, you will have an advantage over those who have a regular 60hz monitor. Some critics claim that the human eye can not see frames produced at that high of a rate so 60hz is fine. They dont know what they are talking about. FrankieOnPC on youtube explains this very well, and a higher refresh rate makes all the difference. Next, out of the box color issues. This is a huge deal for a lot of people. When you fire this monitor up the factory color settings are terrible. It looks like youre looking at a picture under water. However, minor adjustments are the key to making this monitor look dynamite. If you Google the model number people have included their settings and an ICC color profile that you can download to make the colors even more vibrant. But, let me tell you what my settings are for reference: Brightness: 60 Contrast: 80 Saturation: 50 Then I set ASUSs Splendid mode to Theater. This gives the deepest blues, reds, and blacks. It provides strong division on the grey scales, and makes the yellows and lighter greens (which are very bland out of the box) pop. After that I did install an ICC profile found on Reddit and various other sites. This was the icing on the cake. Performance wise, its very hard to notice the difference between 1ms and 5ms input lag. But the 144hz refresh rate is very noticeable. Everything is much smoother. Screen tearing is gone. And if you want to run Vsync, you can. But chances are you will have gotten rid of tearing without having to enable Vsync. I wish I bought this monitor first for my gaming rig. I had no idea how much of a difference a higher refresh rate made. Its night and day. I will never go back to 60hz.

> 3 dayThis monitor is a great one, I cant deny that. Id give five stars all around but I bought this monitor in February (2020) and in May (2020) I already had 2 dead pixels. It is now October and I still only have those dead pixels, and I hardly notice them. Was just very odd that I got a brand new monitor and within 2 months already had dead pixels. I didnt write a review sooner as I wanted to see if it would get worse but so far it has not. 2nd issue is that randomly when my monitor turns on from sleep mode im met with a screen of static. I can easily fix this by pressing the power button on the monitor then turning it back on, but this issue does happen a couple times a week for no apparent reason. Id definitely say its a good monitor besides those two things. Very bright, great for gaming, good response time.

> 3 dayI got to start with this. This is a great monitor. Read all other reviews for more details, not much I can comment about. -- #TL;DR: Around 2 years of owning the monitor, displayport randomly gives up after PC wakes up on sleeps or screensaver for my 4th time, other ports are not in use but still functional. Warranty service covered me for my last 3 times (2 replace, 1 repair). Great service, about to request the 4th if they allow. -- The only reason why I knocked a star off, is because from time to time, the display port of the monitor will just suddenly decide to stop working. I usually sleeps my computer, rarely shuts it off unless needed to. However, so far 3 times when I wake my computer up, the display simply wont turn on. This problem only occurs on display port because HDMI and DVI sill works as intended. I tested with different PC pots, monitors, and cable and sure is the monitors issue. My first 2 warranty services simply sent me new displays, with the 3rd repaired and sent back. Now Im about to request the 4th warranty service (if they allow). This time I kept my computer on when I left for dinner, came back in 40 minutes to wake screensaver, and found the pixels on this monitor all messy while the 2nd (different) monitor is all normal (connected via HDMI). Sure tried different ports and cable, still the display port issue on monitor. For your information, my friend purchased an exact same monitor with me with almost identical PC setup, but he have not yet to experience this issue. Between each displayport failure, I assure that I did not plug/unplug the cable for more than 3 times, so it shouldnt be physically damaged.

> 3 dayThe screen is so bright it makes the colors pop. My old monitor has clouding issues and man, I was missing so much by not upgrading earlier. Maybe I can get a replacement screen for my older monitor so that my eyes will be better off.

> 3 dayI scored this monitor on sale for $219.99 and WOW, what a great deal! If youre in the market for an affordable entry into the gaming monitor market, this is your ticket. Out of the box, the monitor leaves a little something to be desired, but with a little bit of my time, I was able to realize the full potential of this display by loading the monitors driver (from the included CD), an ICC color profile, and adjusting a few of the OSD settings. Just Google VG248QE Calibration for full details on how to do this. (NOTE: Its absolutely CRUCIAL that you check the Use Windows Display Calibration box in advanced settings when adding the ICC profile. This is what made the night-and-day difference for me): PROS: -144hz Refresh Rate (must use the provided Dual Link DVI cable and enable in Windows/your OS of choice) - Say goodbye to screen tearing in your games. Youll be able to see the difference immediately, right from your desktop. Window animations and transitions and scrolling through web pages is a silky smooth experience. Games look fantastic with zero screen tearing. -1ms Response Time - Its hard to find monitors with 1ms or the 144hz in this price range. I did not see any noticeable ghosting while playing games. -Highly adjustable base/stand - The stand on this thing is sturdy and allows you to adjust the height, tilt, and even rotate the display to portrait mode if thats your thing. The base also has a wheel type mechanism allowing you to easily swivel the monitor without scratching your desk. Theres a cable management tab on the back to help keep the ugly cables out of the way, and putting it together was simple with the thoughtful toolless screw on the base. -No dead pixels or noticeable light bleed - My unit did not have any dead pixels or noticeable light bleed. I always get some anxiety when buying a new monitor from this point alone, so it was nice to not have these issues. -3 Year ASUS Warranty - Havent had to take advantage of this yet, but its reassuring to know that ASUS stands behind their products Nice Bonus Features: -Nvidia 3D support - If you buy the glasses youll be able to use this feature in 3D supported games (3D movies do NOT work from what I understand). Havent been able to try it out myself, but may give it a go at some point. -Nvidia LightBoost - With a little time and extra software ([...]) you can trick this monitor into using the strobe effect used by Nvidia LightBoost (otherwise only used with the 3D feature out of the box) to give your monitor a CRT-like quality and completely eliminate any motion blur. Havent tried this myself yet, but sounds like an interesting feature to have for anyone into competitive multiplayer gaming or even just firing up some old emulated games. CONS: -TN Panel - This is pretty standard for gaming monitors to achieve the 144hz response, 1ms refresh, so its understandable. You can definitely notice with the viewing angles, but its really not as bad as some make it out to be. After calibrating the monitor, this pretty much became a non issue. -Glossy black finish/3D logo - Minor nit picking, but the monitor is almost definitely going to show dust and scratches. The giant 3D logo is printed on the base, so cant remove it, and overall kind of detracts from the otherwise good looking design.

> 3 dayI was on the fence buying a TN panel display. I mean come on, its 2017... I can get the same 24 IPS display I bought 5 years ago for half the price I originally payed for it, and half the price of this TN panel. But reading the reviews and studying up on higher framerates, on top of playing competitive pvp games led me to picking up one of these when I needed to replace my main display. I bought into the hype... AND OMG was it worth it. WOW 144 Hz what a difference. IMMEDIATELY after setting the monitor refresh rate on my NVidia GTX 1060 to 144 Hz I knew I made the right choice. I sat there in awe moving my mouse around the screen so smoothly and crisply. You wouldnt think youd pick up the difference but I can easily see it just by moving my mouse around on my new and old monitors side by side. Obviously gaming-wise the difference is just as well, Battlerite at 144Hz is perfection. Color-wise, no doubt this panel competes with my old IPS ASUS displays (VE247H & an older VH236H). Side by side I dont even notice a difference after tuning the settings and colors, if anything the blacks look even better on the VG248QE. Im stunned. Just know that, like all of the ASUS monitors Ive used, the VG248QE needs some significant tuning to get the colors / levels set correctly. The last thing Ill talk about is the stand. My older ASUS monitors have fixed stands with no height adjustment or rotation. The added advantage of the rotation and height adjustments are super nice and I didnt realize what I was missing. The base of the display has an integrated rotation feature, really high quality.

> 3 dayCONS: Nearly flawless for gaming implementation. Only issue I take with this monitor is that I purchased two of these and I can never quite get the colors to be the same between them and the backlighting varies ever so slightly even if you use the exact same OSD settings. I had to manually tweak both of them to match their colors using two different profiles. It seems that theres a fair amount of color variance between them and the black levels are admittedly not great. PROS: That being said the rest of the monitor is amazing. 144hz is a step up to which I will never go away from. Response time on these are amazing and 24 is a size which you can really lay out on a desk really well without feeling overwhelmed by bezels that are too large. The spring loaded stands these come with are slick and also the potential for 3D viewing is a little plus, although most the utility in this screen comes from playing high octane FPS MMOs and MOBAs. This display really flatters a really good video card and the higher-visuals games with well optimized multiplayer and with heavy and smooth particle effects like Overwatch, HoTS, BF4, BF1, or Dota 2. Im unsure if 144hz would directly impact either CSGO or League of Legends graphically besides input latency, and neither are very graphically intensive (both which I play and although FPS is smoother I cant say it really changes the experience). For single player games I really enjoyed BioShock Infinite, Witcher 3, and Titanfall 2 at 144hz (GeForce 1080). If you play early-access games such as PubG, ARK or Rust you may not see as much (or any) graphical change in 144hz as their games are not very well optimized in FPS for the screen to benefit you, unless you are running a multiple GPU Crossfire or SLI setup such as a 2x GeForce 1080 Tis to get your FPS consistently over 100+.

> 3 dayI purchased this monitor before G-sync went live and fell deeply in love with the response rate and the 144hz speed. I am a professional gamer and play games that require twitch movement and speed. I went from a 70Hz 6ms Asus monitor to this whopping 144Hz 1ms monitor and I DEFINITELY notice a difference. From games such as Starcraft and CS:GO, this monitor provides you with the edge in game. I demand performance and this is exactly what it gave me and more. I installed G-Sync following the DIY tutorial on NVIDIAs web site. The installation was easy granted that I have experience dismantling and building computers and components. The overall installation only took 20 minutes for me and really improved my gaming performance. The twitch games such as CS:GO are the kind that I really saw a jump in improvement. The G-Sync along with the 1ms and 144Hz gave games such as BF4, Crysis, and CS:GO a great boost in fluidity and responsiveness. As stated before, my old monitor was 6 years old and this upgrade turned my whole life around. The responsiveness, cleanliness, and fluidity are very noticeable and give me more of an enjoyable gaming experience. I have even restarted various games such as Metro and Bioshock because the gameplay was that much more enjoyable with this monitor and with G-sync installed. If you are in the market for a gaming monitor that is G-sync capable, look no further. For the price you are getting a top-notch monitor with the capability of adding g-sync to really boost your experience. This is by far one of the most important parts of my gaming rig i have purchased and is one that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to get the most out of their computer and their gaming experience. Side note: I have recently ditched my 60hz 42in TV from my living room since I am no longer able to bare the slow 60Hz. I now watch TV on my Asus monitor...
