Overall Im really happy with the monitors image quality. This is the second Benq that I own and it met the expectations I had from my previous one. I mainly bought this monitor because of the black equalizer option. I owned a Dell prior to this and I could not see shite in night maps in Hunt Showdown. Now I can spot people anywhere regardless of the day time :D I was aware of people complaining about the HDR and I understand that it might be disappointing for some, but honestly if you are buying a screen mostly because of HDR and console gaming then get a budget 4k tv that supports HDR. They are not that much more expensive than this monitor. Thats my two cents on that subject. My only complaint is the stand, even though I was aware of the bad reviews about it I decided to still get the monitor because of the picture quality. I dont mind the material but the height adjustment is very poor. Not sure why Benq decided to go with this design. I ended up ordering an Uplift monitor arm and will see how that goes.

This is so much better than the Alienware monitor it is replacing! Less hz but the color quality is absolutely amazing! For gaming the best setting I’ve found are: Game HDRi Light Tuner +1

Note: I didnt see the manufacturer response to this review for 4 months... I apologize for that. Allow me to revise my bad section, I still cant get HDRi to work well for me I guess the ambient lighting of my gaming room just doesnt agree with it, but I did not realize that HDR Display mode let me tweak the brightness settings (where other HDR mode turn off brightness settings. After some playing around it looks pretty great. Still not the best HDR Ive ever seen but it is what they market it as HDR 400 cant expect it to go over that hurdle Beautiful picture. Even when not in HDR, you can get some brightly colored beautiful quality imagining. Colors are vibrant and the picture is crisp. The refresh rate works out of the box, blacks are deep and whites are bright. The speakers are fantastic. Its actually why I went with this model. I have a set up that splits between my computer and several gaming consoles and I didnt want to have a set of speakers on my desk for each. While I wouldnt replace my external desktop speakers with them they are perfect for my console games.

I love the auto brightness sensor, but at its lowest setting the monitor is still to bright in a completely dark room. I wish the monitor gave you a offset for minimum, but sadly it does not.

Arrived with a pixel stuck red. It the problem doesn’t resolve on its own soon I will try to get it replaced and update the review. Also packaging seemed mostly fine but there was a scuff in the plastic on the back of the monitor. Decently deep to so maybe I got a refurbished one somehow? Edit: just got my new replacement, no dead pixels are damage, just the volume knob could be nicer compared to the last one.

Issues Ive had: 1) BEWARE: When/if you turn the HDR functions on be prepared for an incredibly dull/dim screen. When you turn these features on the monitor uses that giant ambient light sensor and dulls the screen, which IMO defeats the purpose of buying an HDR monitor. ALSO when you turn these features on you cant disable the ambient light sensor what so ever. The monitor looks great when you turn all that off and just adjust it for your liking, but the fact that it gets hilariously dim when you have those features on makes me think the system is messed up or its defective. It was so dim that putting my iPhone on nearly its lowest brightness setting which is usually around 150 nits, seemed brighter than what this monitor was AUTOMATICALLY doing. -TLDR Dont buy this monitor for its HDR features..when you turn it on you cant control the picture brightness at all. 2) The monitor will go to sleep just as Windows signals it to when you have the option to turn off the display after x number of minutes. This monitor loses signal with the computer when it does that, and sometimes requires me to completely unplug the monitor from both the wall AND the computer and then allow it to power on again. Its rather annoying. Things I Like: 1) Speakers are good, not great. Theyre not iMac level or Dell AIO PC level, and probably not a good pair of $40-50 desktop speaker level - but theyre good. Theyre better than most monitor speakers Ive heard, but they dont get that loud. 2) When NOT using HDR it literally looks just like the Dell Ultrasharp and Acer 1440p monitors ive used. So nothing special - but good. 144hz is nice. 3) Love the construction of the monitor and the remote. The remote was a godsend when I figured out the above HDR issue.

The most remarkable thing about this monitor is that it has a a remote. The TLDR version of this review is that BenQ is using an obscure or new remote code to control this monitor that you most likely won’t find is compatible with your universal remote. This is a huge fail on the part of BenQ since the only reason you’d want a remote is to control the monitor remotely while using a different device (presumably with its own remote). I also own a 4K ASUS monitor in the same price range and it’s per much exactly the same (but a little cheaper). So if we’re being honest here, the only thing that sets this monitor apart is a feature rendered largely useless in practical application. I bought it as a second monitor that could be used as a dual display or, when hooked up to my Roku, act as a 4K TV. The Roku universal remote for the Roku Stick+ has both IR and Bluetooth. It also is programmable with an insane amount of codes, including 12 remote codes for BenQ TVs. Yes, that’s right, they didn’t use one of these existing codes and opted to use an obscure or new one. Since the stick is behind the display, you’ll need to control it via Bluetooth and I know of no “learning” universals that come with that capability. Sometimes remote codes used by a different manufacturer will work but I have‘my found any and I’ve spent over an hour trying every name brand you’ve likely heard and some you haven’t.

This is my first higher-end monitor so it is hard for me to compare it, but I am having no issues at all and am very happy overall with this monitor. Couple of things that may be noteworthy for you: * This monitor has a usb-c port and comes with a usb-c to usb-c 3.1 cable. Plugging this cable into a usb-c power port allows the picture, audio, and power to all be supplied through this one cable. HOWEVER the passthrough charge may not be enough to charge your computer during use. I am using a 2018 Macbook Pro and running resource intensive programs (Android Studio) and the battery percentage drain is significant. * The sound on this monitor is surprisingly good. It cannot contend with mid-level dedicated speakers, but it is pretty solid. I like a clean desk so I am using just this monitor for sound (plus headphones for longer music-related sessions) and am very happy so far.

All I’m gonna say about this monitor is. First impressions are everything. At 600 dollars I expected this thing to, at the very least come with everything needed to game at 1440 144hz. It came with some crummy hdmi cable and a usb c cable. Where the hell is the display port cable. Pissed is an understatement. Asus didn’t do this kind of crap and they’ll have my business in the future
