> 24 hourWhen this umbrella first arrived a few days ago, I thought it was broken. No matter how much I pressed the button, and shook the umbrella, and tried to adjust the shaft, it wouldnt open. Figured something might have happened in transit, as the umbrella was in a box with NO protection to keep it from rattling around (a lot) in the box. Practically had to force the umbrella open. But once open, it is certainly impressive in size, and looks well made, with the umbrella fabric that looks thicker/sturdier than a similar, Loleemon 62 umbrella that I have. BUT, then I went to close the umbrella, and it would NOT latch. I tried many times, even pressing the button at the same time to get the umbrella past the button. No dice--the umbrella kept springing open. I started a return process, which took considerable time in a chat, then went to pack up the umbrella, which would only stay closed with the two ties holding the canopy in place. Then a strange thing happened. After I bound the umbrella with the ties to put it back in the box, I glanced back at the handle, only to find that the umbrella had LATCHED closed! Dont know how that happened, but I pressed the button, and this time, the umbrella opened easily. Tried to close the umbrella again, but could NOT get it to latch. Maybe I got a lemon, but then discovered the following... TIP: To close the umbrella, I have to wrap my whole hand around the moveable shaft, and pull the umbrella closed, firmly and quickly, and then it will latch without any problems. Usually with other umbrella, I just have to wrap my thumb and forefinger around the moveable shaft and lightly pull it closed. That does NOT work with this umbrella. Still, all in all, this looks like a great umbrella. The real test however, will come when I actually try it out in the rain.

> 24 hourIve had auto-open umbrellas for years; wouldnt have any other. But Ive been increasingly unhappy with the manual close. When you get in the car, trying to stay dry while you reach up to close the umbrella is hard. And then the umbrella drips over everything as you try to place it in the passenger footwell. This works well. BUT! Beware when you press the close button, it is an instantaneous SNAP close! I wasnt prepared for that the first time and it really surprised me. When you press the close button, it snaps into a folded shape (a triple fold for each vane, so it gets very small). Then you have to press the handle back to its short length. Its easy to do that without getting water in your lap or on your car seats because the water is contained in the folds. Good umbrella with adequate coverage and (so far) reliable operation.

> 24 hourThis is a sturdy umbrella. Have not tried it in the wind yet but it seems like it will hold up. Does hold the rain inside when closing. Gives you a chance to stay drier and empty water out. Great automatic open and close. Definitely need muscles to completely close and fasten strap. Great purchase.

> 24 hourThere are a ton of options on Amazon when it comes to travel umbrellas. Ultimately, I chose this one primarily because I wanted better quality, canopy size, and strength. I have used it about a dozen times so far, though not in significant wind, but here are my takeaways. Seems reasonably well made, but nothing that stands out other than the rib count and the fact that they use fiberglass in the rib construction. Here are the cons: despite being 210t, the black fabric is thin enough to allow light through which seems odd. It does seemsto shed water quite well due to the teflon coating, well see if it lasts. The handle is hard plastic, I was expecting a rubberized surface with more grip, and its frankly smaller than it should be. The strap is wide nylon webbing, and the opening is not large enough for more than meduim-large size male hands. There is slop in the shaft as you spin the umbrella left and right. May be of no consequence as far as performance, but makes it feel less solid. and finally, the open close action seems unbalanced. The umbrella opens lazily, but snaps closed with great force. The force required to close and cock the mechanism is not insignificant, either. Doesnt really bother me, but it might bother others. I suspect this might be an earlier version of this umbrella, and if so, I would suggest trying the newer one. For the money, not a bad value, but I was expecting to be more impressed.

> 24 hourSeems like an extremely well made and sturdy umbrella. I love the size, bigger than most compact umbrellas so it protects me better, but not so large that its a liability when the wind is blowing hard or so its unwieldy when negotiating your way around with others on a crowded sidewalk. I feel the same about the handle, most compact umbrellas have tiny short handles that are hard to keep a firm grip on, this ones longer and more comfortable to hold. Its just hard plastic though and I wouldnt mind if it was rubber covered so it was a little more non slip. Still, not enough of an issue to ding it a star for. The leather cover is ok, but its kinda large so I dont use it. The nylon sleeve is nothing special but it works and is more compact so thats what I carry it in. I commute to work using public transportation and part of that commute includes a 1/2 mile walk so my umbrellas get used regularly. My last umbrella while durable was too small in diameter and the handle was atrocious so I got this one to replace it. So far so good. If it doesnt stand the test of time Ill be back to update my review!
