Briwax Oil-Free Steel Wool 0000

> 3 dayI learned, some time ago, that all Steel Wool is not created equal. Of course, if you shop in big box stores, all youll find is the lower grade bag of briquet-like steel wool which breaks down quickly, leaves splinters in your hands and sometimes scratches the wood, even at 4x0. I discovered Briwax rolls of Steel Wool and Ill never go back to the cheap-o kind again. You cut off sections from a roll (tearing also tears fibers, so a scissors is a necessity). It doesnt leave splinters and does a really great job of bringing down finishes for a second application. I also use it to soften the look of a finish that is a little too shiny. This is the only way to go if youre doing serious woodworking.

> 3 dayThis product looks like a big old roll in the photo, but is rather small when it arrives. That said, there doesnt seem to be any cheaper source for oil-free steel wool which is essential for some cleaning/polishing/finishing work. Definitely higher quality than Ive found in any hardware stores near where I live.

> 3 dayI usually use Liberon 0000 steel wool for between coat leveling, tried this to see if it was any better, or cheaper. Its an excellent product, maybe stays together a bit longer than Liberon but its pretty much a toss-up which is better. Most important is either of these products will produce much better results than the garden variety 0000 youll find at hardware or big box stores at a much lower price. Compared side-by-side there is no comparison, theyre two completely different products, and worth the extra bucks if youre serious about your work. eBays the cheapest place to buy either, and theyre both about the same price. Buying by the 225-250g roll is most economical

14-04-2025Ive used 0000 steel wool in woodworking for over 40 years. One might think--as I did--that steel wool is steel wool. Not so. This Briwax oil free steel wool is the greatest Ive come across. Works very well, and it doesnt smell awful like steel wool (that isnt oil free) after the package has open for awhile. Plus, I like the convenient roll. Good stuff.

> 3 dayThis is a quality product. I purchased for the purpose of plugging holes that mice might use to get in my home. I learned that mice do not like to chew into steel wool so I looked for bang for buck and this fit the bill as you get a good amount for a good price.

> 3 dayI have used 000 steel wool, and several other methods of cleaning up chrome parts on the old Schwinn bikes I re-furb. This one works best! I like being able to whack off a short length, thereby eleminating waste.
