I am not sure if this battery is supposed to have a rubber plug/grommet for the hole in which you would plug the charging cable, when not in use.....but it did not come with one. Since these radios are usually used in outdoor and often rugged environments, it seems that protection from the elements would have been a consideration. I really wanted to give this product a great review, but because of the either missing or not previously thought of rubber plug for the charging port, I just can’t.

This did not work initially. There is not info on which position should contain the dummy battery. I guessed it did not matter and that was true. One of the contact points for the battery was bent out of position, so the unit did not work. When I figured it out and bent it back, everything worked. It appears to be made of cheap plastic. Not sure how long it will hold up.

This is a great backup that uses AA type alkaline batteries for powering your radio. As a ham that never knows what situation I might be facing for an emergency, this is very useful. I, and most people have a cache of AA batteries that I keep all of the time. This means if I drain my rechargeable batteries, this can be deployed with some fresh AA batteries to keep me on the air.

After reading a lot of reviews we decided to go with this one it seems this one doesnt get quite as hot as a lot of the other ones on the market but we dont know yet so hopefully this will work for us We did buy an adapter on Amazon that would plug into the wall which had a problem causing us to mistakenly not know if the battery illuminators were working correctly , We solved that were buying another adapter Works with baofeng 2015 model radio sold here on Amazon 1. Weve used it for several hours on standby and so far it has no heat whatsoever is cold to the touch We will try listening to a weather station and update you later ? 2. We have transmitted with it very little so far doesnt get hot at all Cold to the touch . If anything changes will update

The originally battery might last a day on the trails, but if I was out there for more than that, I had no way to charge up the battery. This battery has gotten me through a whole weekend, AND with the usb charging cable, I can charge while Im on the trial if I need to! No more worrying about the radio anymore!

It is expensive for what it is, but the product seems legit. It works as described.

I purchased this strictly as a backup for any scenario where charging the Baofeng batteries was not possible but utilizing the extremely common AA battery was. It works exactly as advertised. It holds 6 AA batteries and comes with 1 dummy battery. If you’re using a 5W radio (UV-5R, UV-5X3, etc) then you’ll place 5 AA batteries and the 1 dummy battery into this adapter and then mount it to the radio. If you’re using a radio with a slightly higher output like the BF-F8HP (what I use for all of mine) then you’ll want to fill all 6 spots with actual AA’s, not using the dummy battery at all. Hope that makes sense! Also, an important thing to note is that the first few times I installed this onto my radio, it required a good amount of force to push until it clicked into place, unlike my other batteries that click into place with gentle pressure. After about 5 times of installing this battery, it became way easier and now clicks on just as easily as the other batteries. So for anyone that gets this and runs into it not locking in easily right off the bat, don’t freak out and all that, you’ll be just fine. I will be ordering more of these down the road for redundancy sake.

BaoFeng BF-F8HP, BF-F8+ and UV-5R Series Battery Eliminator with DC Adapter.

This is the genuine eliminator with the full heavy duty cable and correct voltage transformer. Counterfeit eliminators send direct voltage which may damage your radio and will not let it function properly. Including: circuit damage and not allowing the radio to transmit while under high power, unregulated voltage

This is the battery eliminator for the BaoFeng BF-F8HP, UV-5X3, and UV-5R series radios. To use the eliminator simply clip it to the back of the radio in place of the battery, then plug the cable into a cigarette lighter or accessory socket (12V only).

This allows your radio to run off the vehicle or selected 12V source. The eliminator supplies power to the radio directly from car.
