> 3 dayThis review is about the BL-5 AA. This battery pack should cost about half the price -- theres not much to it. And you will need to modify it as other reviewers have indicated, or it will short itself near the center-top, where the external contacts pass near the internal battery contact. That said, its very versatile. It works with both Alkaline and NiMH (e.g., Eneloop) batteries, which is the reason I bought it. I imagine it would suffice in an emergency. I only wish they would release a proper USB-compatible battery for these radios.

> 3 dayThe description is incorrect when stating the port on the side is a 2.5 barrel plug. I purchased a USB-C to 2.5 barrel plug adapter as the BTECH mentioned to purchase gets so hot that it melts the plastic housing around and the motherboard. So when finding an alternative the stated 2.5 was too large. Though when I purchased a USB-C to 1.7 barrel plug it fit, but did not charge the battery which confused me further. I have on solution, but thought this info was important.

Greater than one weekWorks great on my 2012 spec Baofeng UV-5R. Adapter seated fully and locked in place no problem or modification necessary. Ask the electronics appear to be contained in the 12v plug adapter. The battery replacement portion is glued together and I opted to not destroy it for the sake of taking pictures. I will update at a later time with pics if I relocate the wire to the side of the battery adapter so it can ride in a cup holder in the car better. I knocked off one star for the somewhat flimsy construction, and the fact the cable exits the bottom and not the side of the battery adapter. Radio powered up fine, I didnt have a chance to perform tx/rx tests. That being said if youre a light user and mostly monitor I think youll be fine. For high power, more constant use I anticipate that the power transformer would become hot/exceed its duty cycle. Good enough for how cheap it was. I can always repurpose it with another higher current DC-DC adapter for higher power Tx requirements/ higher duty cycle/talk times.

> 3 dayIm in a remote location, and had to study to find out that the supplied antenna was inadequate. The battery charging system is antiquated; once the battery is charged, you must remove it from the docking station or you will eventually damage the battery. The large battery you can buy separately has a plug to link it to a usb port (cable also extra), but no such luck with the supplied standard battery.

> 3 dayThis fit my TIDRADIO UV5R perfectly. I have just used it on a sled dog race, working on the trail crew. I turned it on at 10:00AM Thursday and found it dead the same time on Saturday. I made 6 short transmissions with the radio located in mid-layer clothing to protect it from the single digit to mid twenties temperatures. It was on and monitoring the whole time. The last transmission I had to change out the battery pack. This is not a critical review as I wanted to see what I could expect from the battery pack.

> 3 dayThis is a good option to have around when you don’t have access to power to charge the battery that came with the radio. You can use alkaline batteries or ni-cd/nimh rechargeable. Just make sure that you use the dummy battery when using alkaline. This should be on a sticker that you apply to the pack to always remember

> 3 dayCant complain about the price, i will see how it works, i will say its a bad fit in the required charger, the battery is about 1/4 inch too thin to make good contact with the charger terminals, i had to fold up cardboard and put in front of the battery to make contact with the charging terminals. It would be a good idea to make the battery thicker so it can be charged in the required charger or provide a shim to place in the charger to make positive contact with charging terminals.
