Canon MP480 All-in-One Photo Printer

The printer does as advertised. I mostly use it to print papers for school. I try my best not to print anything else because the cost of the ink is crazy. The only reason I did not give this printer 5 stars is because it uses ink pretty fast. I got this printer May 2009 and I have not had any issues. I use the printer, copier and scanner. They all work well and it is easy to use. Its pretty self explanatory. I hooked it up with a random usb cord I had on hand. The printer does not come with a cord so if you decide to get the printer, then remember to buy a cord to attach it to your computer. ************************************************** I am updating my review Jan 23 2015. I have had this printer for about 6 years and I am still in school. Now full time instead of part time. I have been using it mostly for scanning documents for class more than printing in the past 2 years. I only find myself printing items to return rental textbooks, or return faulty merchandise, also to print coupons once in awhile. However, if your print head is not recognized then you cannot do anything not even scan with the printer. My copier worked fine with the canon ink and then it started giving an error saying B200 printer error see manual. There is nothing in the manual but I went on Google and none of the resolutions worked for me. The last resolution was to unplug the printer for 24 hours, I did that and now there is an error saying U051 print head is not installed, install print head. The same print heads are in the printer. I opened new ink and put it in the printer and it still did not work. That is $40 worth of new ink that will be thrown in the trash. I am getting an HP printer. I am finished with Canon because this is the second printer that stopped working for weird reasons. I gave the printer 2 stars for lasting 6 years. Also to get the a new print cartridge that cost $125. In other words, I will use that money for a printer instead. I going with HP because the cost of ink is half the price. I purchased this printer at a different retailer. I have had this printer for over a month and so far I have no problems with it. I really like this printer. It prints quickly and I dont have to feed one paper at a time. The only thing I can say that I dont like about it is that it uses ink up pretty quickly.

i love this printer, it works great. its not SUPER loud but it does make noise but thats fixable since it has a quiet mode. picture quality is good, it actually surprised me. i also like that it has preset templates, for example you can print a checklist or notebook page just by selecting the option, i also like that it has a button to print color copies and one to print black and white copies this works great since you dont have to turn on the computer to choose a setting. it can actually do a lot of things without a computer except for maybe printing a document thats ON your computer but it can print it without the computer if its on a memory card. i was expecting some updates from my lexmark 3 in 1 dinosaur but i was just amazed at all the things this printer can do. Im sure if what you want is a for heavier buisness use you might disagree with me but if you want it for your average home use its perfect, and the price is a total bargain! the ink is a bit pricey compared to lexmark but i purchase the XL and i really dont print too many things so it works for me.

I replaced a HP printer with this Canon printer because of all the favorable reviews this printer had, and am so sorry I did that! I have to have the printer on my desk, and with this printer, for each new page Im printing, I have to stand up to place the paper into the slot at the back. With the HP printer, I could stay seated for all the paper feeding. As if that isnt enough of a problem, each time I put a new paper in the printer for printing, I must hit the processing button, and each time that has to be done, it takes between 25-30 seconds (I counted them) before the printer starts up, again. When you are printing a long document, this takes way too much time! I cant understand why any of the other reviews are so positive- how I wish I had just gotten a new HP printer!

I was looking for an inexpensive photoprinter for a member of the family and purchased this printer, having always been satisfied in the past with Canon products. I found the Canon MP480 to function quite well in both scanning and printing. Installing it was no problem. Very glad I purchased iot and the price cannot be beat. David

DO NOT FORGET CABLE! Youll need it and Amazon has a 6ft. Belkin for less than $5.00 with free shipping. You will pay over $20.00 for the same cable at the office supply stores. I checked. Using the EASY button is expensive. The print quality and color is excellent. This is an outstanding printer for the price which is actually less than two sets of cartridges. It takes longer than I expected to warm up. There is no SLEEP mode. It is either on or off. During the warm up period, unless it is in QUIET mode, it sounds like an angry raccoon trapped in a utility closet and will cause every cat in the house to flee for their lives. QUIET mode is a permanent setting around here. It is stylish and compact. The LED command console provides clear and concise controls for stand-alone copying. A good value and a dependable brand make this a great buy.

Printer works great on my iMac/Macbook. Scanning software is pretty clunky, though. Sometimes it has a problem where the paper gets jammed due to the way the paper sits in the up right tray. If you rotate the paper 180 degrees so that the leading edges curve is point down it fixes the problem. I went through about 50 jammed pages before I figured that one out :/

This printer is great! My printed and copied documents print quickly, the scanner is very easy to use, and pictures print beautifully! I scanned a school picture and printed if off, it looked professionally printed, I couldnt believe the quality! Im very happy with this printer and glad that ink isnt very expensive!

First off, this printer has met all my needs. I am a poor college student who needs an all in one printer but cant afford those crazy $300-400 dollar printers. This MP-480 fulfills all of my expectations and is great! Here were my printer criteria. 1) scanner to scan pictures and trading cards to sell on ebay, 2) color printer and copier because the library doesnt have color printers (I need color copies for projects and papers that involve pictures) and copier to make those emergency copies when I dont have time to go to the library, 3) something not too big. The MP480 fills all those needs. First it looks very stylish and folds up very nicely to prevent dust from getting into anywhere. And, it makes great photocopies, good enough scans of pictures and trading cards, and prints like a charm. Basically if you run a home office, this printer isnt for you because its kind of slow when making copies and runs out of ink quickly. Pros; Very easy to install cartridge (unlike my former HP deskjet .. hated installing cartridge.. believe it or not would take an hour sometimes), compact and nice design (basically is like a box when all folded up to make easy to carry and store), all in one printer, lcd screen is very simple to operate and not complicated, paper adjusting mechanism installed on paper tray that makes it so easy to print photos, $50 rebate when order from B+H, The only cons: doesnt come with printer cable, scanner quality is about average, is loud when printing, not wireless, and toner goes out quickly. For the toner issue when you buy the replacement cartridge in XL I heard that the ink lasts so much longer. You should opt for that if you end up purchasing this printer. Hey, but in the end this printer I would highly recommend to any college student! All those cons was after about a 1/2 month of usage is because I am very picky. But really, I have no right to complain because I payed $80 for all these things. One printer, copier, or color copier alone cost that much money. And with the proposed $50 rebate that BH promised me, I basically will pay $30 for this printer!!! after the rebate comes from BH. I have yet to receive the $50 rebate, but B+H has a very good record and I trust that they will deliver on their promise
