> 3 dayCaran Daches products are truly amazing so I was so excited to receive these pencils. The box and packaging they are in is beautiful. They lay down more similarly to a pastel. I thought the colors were beautiful; however for this set being so large, I wish there were more variances. The day I opened my box for the first time, I realized the blenders (you receive two) were unsharpened. As I started sharpening one to try it out with my swatch, it snapped in half. This was truly disappointing. With the knowledge that this was their first set of colored pencils, I also ordered their Pablo 120 piece. For the price of these Luminance pencils, I expected a higher quality. Not something that would snap in half on the 1st day. Im definitely going to return these. If Im going to purchase an expensive quality of pencils, I cant accept something breaking on day one. The Pablos are amazing, so Im going to keep them instead.

> 3 dayWithout any reservations I love Caran d’Ache Luminance pencils; in fact, I recently ordered my third 76 Pencil set. As they get shorter from sharpening, I find it more economical to buy a new tin rather than individual pencils as open stock. I am not a professional artist, but I take my coloring hobby very seriously, and I treat my coloring supplies with greatest care. I have most of the major brands of coloring pencils, including Prisma colors, Faber Castell Polychromos, Staedtler Ergosoft pencils, Caran d’Ache Pablos, etc., but Luminance remains my favorite, and I handle the pens like precious jewelry. I take equally well care of the tins and containers. When I received the latest set of Luminance, the pencils were as beautiful as as always, but I was heartbroken to see that they arrived in a damaged tin, or rather box (they are cardboard, not metal). This almost totally ruined my joy in the pencils altogether. It was something that did not happen during shipping, and I feel that a highly reputable company like Caran d’Ache should not something like this leave the premises. Some people may think, “So what, put tht pencils in another container,“ but that would not be a solution in this case. The three individual trays holding the pencils are very carefully constructed, the cradle each single pencil so that it will not move or fall out, even if the tray is held upside down. It would be hard, if not impossible, to fit these trays into another box. Besides, at the price Of the set, this should not be necessary.

> 3 dayIve been wanting a set of these for a couple of years, but could never justify the cost. Im not an artist, just a colorist. Already have prisma, polychormos, and pablos, so why should I fork that amount of money for a set of pencils? If you are like me, you already have tried every other cheap and semi expensive pencil for kicks, found some you like, but are always wanting to add more. Then youve seen the videos and art work with these and just well, have to try them at some point. Well, here is my honest review for what its worth. Pros. The colors lay down beautifully, they are softer than polychoromos, harder that prisma, they are butter smooth. They will take layer after layer after layer, dark to light, light to dark, they dont mind a bit. If layering isnt for you they burnish well with just a single layer. They blend great with all my other pencils, even with polychormos being oil. They preform like polychromos at holding a point for a longer time than prisma. Not one problem in sharping. Shipping and packing was great. Cons. The biggest one was my first though, and its the cost. Even open stock the cheapest Ive found is going to cost me almost 5 bucks to replace one pencil. Its going to make using them a lot stay in the back of my mind every time I pick one up. Even though they hold a point for longer than prisma, I found that Im so scared to put a longer point on them for fear of breaking them, I just dont do it. So in essence I find my self always sharping. My other small complaint it the colors palette. For me, at least there are to many muted colors, and not near enough blues, greens, browns and yellows. Final thoughts. Would I purchase this set again? NO, but Im glad I have them. Now if they came out with a larger set for the same price, with more bright colors, heck yes Id really save up and get them. I just know there are more colors in this set Ill never use. So for me at least that was a waste.
