Its basically a screw-on plastic channel that prevents a childs hand from being able to flip the switch. For our toddler it works fine because she has to stretch her whole hand to reach. It basically takes an adult finger to reach up or down to flip it. Installation was easy. It just screws on the top of the faceplate using the dames screws that hold it on in the first place.

My toddler has met her match! No more messing with the light switch!

When our son turned 3 years old, he went through a REALLY horrible phase where hed fight bed time and wake up all during the night and refuse to stay in his room. A part of that was turning his bedroom light on and off during the night. In addition to supplying him with night lights, this light switch guard was the PERFECT SOLUTION! An adult finger can slip through the top to turn the light off or the bottom to turn it on; little fingers cannot. Not quite a year later we took it off and he leaves his light alone. He must have matured. ;) TOTALLY RECOMMEND!

This does exactly what it supposed to do, and I installed it in about two minutes. My son was baffled for about 30 seconds and now completely ignores that light switch. It was a problem before, now it’s not, very pleased

We have a very curious and mechanically apt 2 yr old grandson who just cant resist flipping the switch on Grandmas garbage disposal. This switch cover gave us the peace of mind to allow him back into the kitchen without strict supervision.

I dont have children in my home, I actually bought this to prevent myself from accidentally turning off the furnace. lol Its not my fault, I just bought a home with a staircase to the basement and instead of having a normal lightswitch at the top of the staircase, some idiot installed the emergency shut-off switch for the furnace right where you would expect to find a lightswitch. I dont think I’ll ever get used to having to walk all the way down the stairs before reaching for a lightswitch, so I bought this shield to cover the furnance switch. It actually comes in 2 pieces : a sort of backplate which is screwed in, then the actual cover part is a square box that snaps into the backplate and covers the toggle switch. If there ever was an emergency, the switch could be easily reached by sticking your finger into the top or bottom of the cover, or just squeeze & pull it right off. Its worked so far, as I have already mindlessly palmed it about a dozen times, and it seems to stay on pretty well.

This worked awesomely for 3-4 nights with our 2- and 3-year olds who just started sharing a room. They havent even remotely tried to fiddle with it yet. The 3-year-old will definitely try at some point and eventually succeed (Im thinking either jiggling the casing enough that it wiggles out or sticking something like a pencil in there to get the switch flipped), but I hope thats a long way out! Its actually a pretty good idea and totally worth a try (even 3 nights was worth the small investment and quick install to me!). The reason Im saying it works less now is only because the kids figured out how to prop open curtains that let some light from a nearby parking lot light shine in to enable more silliness before bed, but its no fault of the product itself and the relative darkness it still creates has subdued things quite a bit from the previous antics. :) Go ahead and buy this - its definitely worth a shot! And portable, too, really, if you need to take it when traveling. Just bring a screwdriver, too. :) Im so happy this product even exists! I give it 4 stars instead of 5 just because I think the design for the front part that pinches in could possibly be a little more secure/less wiggly.

Really easy to install and a must for my house. My son would wake up too early and turn on the lights and make a mess. Now hes in the bed because he can’t control the lights. Haha sucker we when!

Don’t over tighten otherwise easy to install and use

This works perfectly well in preventing my child from touching the switch initially. However, It tends to break anytime soon as the plastic has cracked from installation. Also the price is way too high at $12..., it’s just two piece of plastic, but it’s only the choice I could found.
