> 3 dayThis is fantastic! An absolute must have for the very sunny location where I live - my skin is so fair, and even with sunscreen I need a bit more shade from the constant glare. I walk everywhere in town and this provides a perfect pool of portable shade, and my head doesnt get hot from wearing a hat. Occasionally it has rained and this works well for that too.

> 3 dayThe fabric used in the umbrella is perfect, however, the ventilation of the umbrella is practically nonexistent. This umbrella cannot be used in the wind. It turns inside out very easily and is a hassle to use. It’s really only useful on a virtually windless day. You couldn’t use this at the beach at all. I used it on a walk in my hometown (not near the coast) on a spring day with mild winds and it turned inside out several times. I haven’t used it since, so it was a waste of money.

> 3 dayThis is a great umbrella for sun protection. It does a good job of keeping you cool. However, I wanted a light umbrella and the weight in the description is inaccurate so its a bit heavy to carry on my morning walk in addition to a water bottle. On my kitchen scale the weight reads 1 lb 8 oz.

> 3 dayThis umbrella is a nice size and folds up to a compact size. Perfect for me since I get migraine headaches from bright sunlight and heat.

> 3 dayGreat little umbrella for keeping the sun off. Not a light little thing. Strong sturdy feel and well made. Not as light as I thought it would be. But, it works great.

> 3 daySmaller than what I thought. Feels light weight at flimsy but works amazingly well at keeping the heat off of you.

Greater than one weekThe handle was a little wobbly from the day 1, but I figured it should be OK, and it was; it blocked the suns rays nicely. That is, until late summer this year. It literally collapsed one day while in use, with a big BANG! Now it wont open. Automatic umbrellas mechanism tend to go before the rest of the umbrella, but really, you would think it should last a little longer at this price. Ive had a rain umbrella (with automatic mechanism) given to me as a free-bee live much longer than this. I think this one is overpriced for the quality. UPDATE: I contacted Coolibar; it turns out the umbrella is guaranteed for life. They replaced it for free. I have my finger crossed that this one wont collapse like the last one. (It was difficult not to have my best sun protection for a while.)

07-06-2025I have admired the sun umbrellas that I have seen used by travelers in the tropics, so finally ordered one myself for our next trip to Thailand. The Coolibar travel umbrella arrived today - just in time for the trip. But unfortunately there are two problems. First, the umbrella does not open properly. Pressing the push button, only partially opens the umbrella. To get the umbrella to fully open and to stay open, you must force the center mechanism up and down several times pushing it firmly against the end stop. Once it stops sliding backward, you must then pull down the sides of the umbrella, so that it is not partially inverted. This process is too cumbersome to open an umbrella. Second, it is difficult to hold the open umbrella because it is very top heavy and poorly balanced. It requires an awkward force to hold it at any angle other than completely upright. While the concept of this umbrella is a fine one, the problems with not opening properly and the poor balance lead to my rating is only 1 star.
