> 24 hourThis is a well-written inspirational volume is a source of delight and reference for creative gardeners/designers. It is not designed, however, for those who seek simple formulas for plant arrangement or seek trendy, flashy displays. Using mostly natural materials, the book suggests how to assemble containers, wreaths, etc. to blend art and nature. While suggesting containers and specific plants, these can be considered as suggestions. By understanding the broad principles of design, color choice, etc. the reader will be prepared for their own creations. There are ideas both for outdoor and indoor displays as well as helpful hints such as how to dry flowers, characteristics of various containers, preferred flowers for cutting, etc. While the book reflects the beauty of the Terrain store (which happens to be near me), the author quite admirably does not push any specific products offered by this or any other commercial source. Having now collected many gardening and design books, this one clearly stands out. I read most of it when it arrived and know I will return often, checking its excellent index.

> 24 hourAbsolutely gorgeous colors. Some granulate more than others. When mixed with other colors on my palette, they add beautiful interest; can be quite unexpected in a Christmas kind of way! I will be exploring other Daniel Smith Primatek colors!

> 24 hourI absolutely love these! I really enjoy painting with granulating colors to create some great texture in my work, and these just hit the mark. Rhodonite makes an interesting mixer and adds texture to every color you mix it with. On its own, its like a slightly muted quinacridone rose. My one complaint is that if you work it too much on the paper, the paper appears to pill. Almost like the paper was made rough while the paint was going down. I mix a lot on the page, so for this color I just switch to mixing on a palette. Piemontite has a beautiful red wash with gray granulation. Its one of my favorite red mixers to add that black texture in the tooth of the paper. In terms of dispersion, it flies across the paper. Amethyst has a little of that black granulation, but this color has the most beautiful glittery sheen in the light. Mayan Blue is the most beautiful gray toned blue. It has quite a bit of granulation on the page, but there isnt much separation of color. Jadeite is my go-to green. The tint is a mossy tone and the granulation is a darker brown color. The mass tone is very dark and concentrated. Hematite is just interesting to look at. It lifts right off the paper when needed, and it granulates very heavily. It makes a great mixture if you want to force that granulating property with a non granulating color. If youre looking for some interesting and playful colors, I highly recommend this set.
