> 3 dayI love these paints! They are very smooth and creamy...no grit. They respond immediately with water and reactivate very well if left to dry on pallette. The colors are vivid and brilliant with excellent coverage, yet very luminous.

> 3 dayI havent tried all the different brands of watercolors, but of the ones I have tried, these are definitely the best! They are rich in pigment and they are very smooth. The one thing I have noticed, and really like about them is that they do not crack or crumble when they have dried in the palette. Hansa Yellow Light is semi-transparent, low staining, Very good lightfastness, no granulation New Gamboge is transparent, low staining, Excellent lightfastness, no granulation Quinacridone Rose is transparent, medium staining, Excellent lightfastness, no granulation Pyrrol Red is semi transparent, medium staining, Excellent lightfastness, no granulation Phthalo Blue is transparent, staining, Excellent lightfastness, no granulation French Ultramarine is transparent, medium staining, Excellent lightfastness, with granulation

Greater than one weekThese are fabulous! I was aware of Daniel Smith’s excellent reputation, but I wasn’t expecting to be this bowled over. Granted, I’m stepping up from from a student grade set of paints (W&N Cotman), but still—the vibrancy and intensity of these paints has to be experienced to be believed! I feel like my painting just jumped a whole new level, but it has nothing to do with my ability, just my what’s on my palette. As others have mentioned, a 5ml tube is tiny. From the crimp of the tube to the tip approximately measures the width of a credit card. That said, however, this paint is so “strong” and vibrant that it only takes a minuscule amount to get your point across. I highly recommend trying out this Essentials Set, and I haven’t even mentioned yet the ease and beauty of the beauty of the color mixes you can make with just these six paints. Enjoy!

> 3 dayI am so glad that I purchased this set as an intro to Daniel Smith watercolors. They are truly beautiful on their own, and mixed carefully they make very vibrant colors. Im already thinking about colors to add to my collection to save time mixing, but you can make almost any color you would want with this set alone.
