Wasnt sure which ones to commit to in 15 ml tubes, so I ordered this one at very good price. Must say, the best color of all is the Rhodonite which is a hot pink or magenta and is supposed to not fade if exposed to light compared to the other pink pigments which usually do. Jadeite is also interesting, dark green with some dark sediment, but can probably be achieved with other color mixes, not sure. Amethyst is a little sparkly actually but not in a mica powdery way, very subtle, and a muted purple. Hematite is a lot like Lunar Black. I have them both and cant really see the difference, but lunar black is cheaper. The others are very nice, but the three stood out for me.

I love Daniel Smith watercolor paint for their beautiful colors and these are a special treat. I especially love the amethyst genuine for its amazing natural shimmer. The tubes are only 5 mils but its more than enough to last.

A split palette consists of primary colors: red yellow and blue, but split between warm and cool versions. This palette has five ml tubes (small but good for trying out) and the colors are Pyrrol Scarlet (warm red, replaces Cadmium Red.) Quinacridone Rose (cool red, replaces Alizarin Crimson) Hansa Yellow Light (cool greenish yellow, replaces Cadmium Lemon) New Gamboge (warm yelllow, replaces Gamboge no longer made) French Ultramarine (warm blue, reddish) Phthalo Blue Green Shade (GS cool, greenish Replaces the less stable Prussian Blue) Some notes: The New Gamboge oozed out of the tube, this is due to chemical properties of the pigments and binders. The other colors did not ooze out. The Phthalo blue is a beautiful almost turquoise blue and its VERY strong. Its pretty close to primary cyan. It will stain. It wont lift (come off paper with water in the brush) very easily. But its a gorgeous color. French Ultramarine is the only color that is one of the oldest originals in palettes and it granulates a bit. You can get any color mixing these six; youd only possibly add two more: Burnt Sienna (or Quinacridone Sienna) and either Yellow Ochre or Quinacridone Gold (warm, earthy gold.) or raw sienna, a more transparent version of yellow ochre. Of the choices, I prefer the quinacridones and raw sienna but its your choice. These eight make a perfect landscape palette. The Pyrrol Red replaces Cadmium Red and is less opaque. I prefer it over the old Cadmium Red likewise prefer Hansa Yellow to Cadmium Yellow Lemon or any of the cadmium pigments. Not sorry to see them go.
