> 3 dayI wanted some pencils to take places for on the spot sketching. These pencils are perfect for that. There is just enough color in nice muted shades to add that something special to what would be just an ordinary sketch.

> 3 dayI have the total set of Polychromos, Prismacolor and these drawing pencils. I prefer the drawing pencils over all due to the color saturation and the creamy smoothness while laying the color down. It is great for fur and all the colors have an organic nature look to them. You will still need the polychromos for detail as the cores are thick. I like them a lot.

> 3 dayThough I have not received this order yet. I have an old set at home. These are lovely muted colors that lend themselves perfectly to the coloring books that I have. I am currently using them in Lost Ocean.

> 3 dayIve been drawing for about a year now, and have worked my way through a lot of media to figure out what I like working with. Recently Ive starting using FC Polychromos colored pencils, which (as pretty much anyone will tell you) are amazing. My only real beef with them is that the color range tends towards a lot of high-chroma colors--meaning that (so far as I know, anyway) if youre going for a natural or muted look you end up spending more time and material greying/toning down. These pencils work well as an adjunct to the Polychromos line. The colors are all soft and muted, and theyre so smooth and creamy that Ive been using them basically like a colored blender: I can lay down more vivid and defined color with the FCs, and then soften and blend with these. I cant tell if theyre all wax or an oil/wax blend, but they almost feel like a pencil version of a firm oil pastel (see, eg, Caran Dache Neocolor I). Anyway, highly recommended. Probably would work similarly well with Derwents other wax-based lines like Coloursoft. And Amazon sells the set for half of what they go for at Blick.

Greater than one weekI didnt like these pencils at first because they kept breaking when I sharpened them. I usually dont have that problem with Derwent. But I realized that I was using a Prismacolor pencil sharpener to sharpen them. When I happened to use a tiny Derwent sharpener that I had lying around, the pencils sharpened without breaking. The colors are rich, but subtle, and they blend beautifully.
