To read an action packed, magical, animal focussed story was fantastic. The author certainly knows her horses and as a horse lover, the story rang true. Dont we all wish we understood animals so well. And her humans were very interesting too. I guess this could be a stand alone story, but I certainly will enjoy reading the further adventures of all the characters and alternate universe.

This was fun to read. I loved the way the horse became human in shape, but had to learn to behave human, and still had horse thoughts and feelings, and learning how to recognize and handle the human side. Done very well, and lots of fun.

This was very interesting read. The book starts on a world of magic. 4 beings from that world are pulled threw time and space to our world. 2 of them are changed from horses to the form of people, yet they still have the mentality of the horse. One is not so lucky and is struck and killed in traffic when he runs out in a panic. The other is luckier, the people who find her are sympathetic, and think she suffered a trauma, and take her home and dress her. She stays quite until she can start talking back and she quickly learns how to help and makes her self useful at a riding academy. She makes friends But needs to find her friend and rider. she makes her needs known to her friends and the drama takes off. Read it to find out more.

The animal into human idea may not be new, but this is about the only example where I actually could believe it. Jess becomes a human during a transition between worlds - but only in her body. Even as she learns some human things, her thinking is horse, all the way. No 2 days and shes just a woman here, Jess is neither ashamed of being a horse nor completely comfortable as a human even at the end of the story. Of course at first her problem is in getting people to believe her. And in rescuing her owner with the help of people who are horrified that she belongs to Carey. This was a terrific beginning to what turned out to be a terrific series.

This was a truly unique story, told from a different perspective. The lead character is a horse in one world, who is changed into a woman in modern day Ohio. Her senses, her expectations of the world, and her growth into an amazing and brave person, are narrated in a believable manner. The author paints a picture of a horse as a being with personality and value, and yet, does not diminish the idea of being human. The actual plot, which involves a courier and his horse escaping their world to protect a magic spell, enlisting the help of humans from our world to return and right the wrongs committed by the spell, is fast paced and well thought out. A unusual story, well executed.

This was a wonderful book! I loved how the author saw the world thru the horses eyes, the confusion, the love, the longing and wonder of living and experiencing life from two different perspectives. It was magic. Thank you for the delightful read.

Very entertaining and fun book, good characters and quite a interesting storyline to read to me it was a good attempt at giving the reader a real look at the way a horse might think

Dun Ladys Jess is an exciting concept mixing travel between realities and travel between species. I enjoyed the learning process Jess underwent from horse to woman and back. The obstacles that had to be overcome were intriguing, and I was compelled to finish the story. The sy-fy flavor was just enough.

Great stand-alone story with an interesting premise and great ensemble cast. While it is able to be a stand alone novel, it has more books following it (which makes me happy). I thought Durgin did a great job depicting the horse in Jess and her entire time as a human. Im not familiar with horses or animals in general, but this made me love them. The romantic in me did kind of wish for a little more romance though. Nevertheless, great story and a bit darker than folks may expect.
