EASTERN JUNGLE GYM EASY 1-2-3 SWING SET A-FRAME BRACKETS These sturdy and heavy-duty brackets are the only way to build a home swing set that will be extremely sturdy. The brackets, while costly, are made of heavy gauge steel, 100% welded joints, and painted nicely to stay rust free for a good looking swing set for years to come. The lag screws and washers are not included. You can purchase the bolt kit extra or go to a home center just as easily. The brackets eliminate any cutting -- you simply buy the wood -- I purchased a ten foot 4x6 beam and ten foot 4x4 posts. Using ten foot 4x4 post in the brackets makes the swing set nine feet high. I then put each leg in the ground 12 deep with concrete. The end result is an eight foot high swing set that isnt going anywhere! I installed two swings to give the kids plenty of room to have fun and swing to their hearts content. In the future when the kids have outgrown this, we will hang a porch swing. Some sanding with a belt sander was required to slide the wood into the brackets. Pressure treated lumber tends to swell and would probably fit better if it sat in the sun for several days to dry out. Each bracket requires 14 lag screws and washers to fasten the wood. This is easy once you drill pilot holes. I used an impact driver to drive the screws and that worked very well, quickly, and was easy. I also purchased 3/8x6 eye bolts to hang the swings. I suggest you get some friends to help stand the swing set up once you have it together. Overall this swing set is built like a rock and it doesnt budge one inch when the kiddies are swinging. Its much sturdier than a home center type you would purchase. Our grand babies LOVE it!!! You will find cheaper brackets out there but you wont end up with the quality such as these. I did everything top shelf on this project and these brackets definitely fall into that category. My total project cost was about $325.00 but this swing set is like one you would find on a playground and is built to last.

So getting the posts into the brackets was likely the worst part. A couple went in smoothly, but the rest I had to sand down and plane away some wood and hammer on with a mallet to get them in. If your budget allows, I would recommend buying some decent quality galvanized lag bolts as the provided ones are pretty chintzy. I snapped one off and went out and bout some good ones. The two major complaints I have is that they should have formed these with a little thicker gauge material considering that A: they are expected to hold a 4x6 beam and B: you’re sinking 3” lag screws into them which causes them to distort a tad when you tighten them. I bought the center pie a as well and ran another 4x6 beam to extend it another 6 feet and am not super impressed with its sturdiness as well. However, all in all they are a decent product and I would recommend for a budget friendly option. We shall see how they hold up as time goes on.

Only problem I had was the company mailed me a single bracket when I ordered a double. I was required to send the single back and received the double the next day. All the hardware and brackets are very sturdy. Completed assembly in about an hour. Both my sons and myself are very pleased. (4x6x10, 4x4x8). Don’t even try and make the legs 10’ it looks ridiculous. Hope this helps.

this made it so easy to build a swingset! no measuring or cutting required. less than an hour to build. the 4x6 did not fit into the bracket. we beat it in with a rubber mallet. totally destroyed the mallet and took about 30 mins of hard beating. sanding it down would be wise. our lumber sat in the rain for a number of days before building so maybe it had expanded with water. the 4x4s fit in very easily though. after getting the wood into the bracket you just drill pilot holes and then insert the bolts with the legs in the air. then we measured for swings. i purchased four 3/8 x8 eye bolts (for two swings) instead of swing hangers to save money. i used a 4x6x8 top beam and four 4x4x8 legs. for the swings i measured 22 from the end of lumber (not inside of legs, end of lumber) 16 for second swing chain, 20 between swings, 16 for second swing chain, 22 to end of lumber. takes two people to flip over. no need to add A frame or secure to ground. this thing is sturdy!! total cost for 2 swing swingset: $185.$80 for brackets with hardware included. i purchased 2 swings with chains on amazon for $40. roughly $65 for lumber, 4 eyebolts with nuts, 8 washers at home depot.

All of the reviews that mention an hour of pounding (and praying) with a rubber mallet are accurate if you dont cut your 4x6 beam ahead of time. I did this for one side and it was a nightmare. For the other side, I got out a circular saw and cut the beam down to 5.5x3.5 (I measured the inside of the bracket and I think I got away with more like 5 9/16 or something). Once the end of the beam was resized, the bracket slid on just like we all dreamed when we purchased it. A second tip: it seems logical to do the first legs laying on the ground and the second up in the air. However, it was a lot easier to get a good position of the 4x4 in the up in the air position and also easier to use my socket wrench (if you have a big enough drill bit, that part doesnt matter). I used a ladder to support the 4x4 while it was up in the air and to get a good position within the bracket. So, were I to make this again, I would do both legs up in the air, and then push them to the ground so the other legs would be up in the air while I worked. All in all, if I had known the circular saw thing ahead of time and I had a drill bit for the lag bolts, This is a half-day project. The results felt very sturdy with my 170 lbs swinging on it. However, shame on the company for creating a 1-2-3- bracket that doesnt fit the commercially available 4x6 you get at your big box store. My guess: the manufacturer screwed up the mold and instead of eating the cost to get them right, they just passed them off to us.

These brackets make it very easy to build a very sturdy swing set frame. Having just put one together I can share a little advice. Ive read that people had to sand down the ends of the wood to fit them into the sleeves. I had one 4x4 that was damp and swollen and wouldnt fit in. I was thinking that I could use a hair dryer to accelerate the drying process. That wasnt true but the hair dryer did provide the solution. Heat up the metal sleeve for ten minutes (until its hot to the touch), it expands, and problem solved. Assembly order matters. The 4x6 top beam is brutally heavy. Start by attaching the brackets to it. You can then slide the 4x4 legs into the brackets with the beam lying on the ground (top down). If you have a lot of strong help then you can just do all four legs and flip it over. If not so much help, then you want to do two legs and then flip it over with the beam acting as one of three legs. Grab a ladder and prop the legless end of the beam onto the ladder. Then work the two remaining legs into the bracket. Im probably going to do a 2x4 cross piece on the legs for added stability. You can sister together 2x6s and 2x4s to make the beam and legs but given that they are the sole support for the structure that seems ill advised. Get the 4s and just end it. Less work too. Size matters as well (sorry). I went with a 10 top beam. The brackets eat up 1 on each side. So you have 8 for swings. That is plenty of room for 3 swings and 4 might even work. The brackets can probably handle a 12 top beam but good luck with assembly (see above). I went with 9+ for the legs. A higher beam means a longer swing distance and more fun. Make sure to get swings with longer chains (mine are 66). Im going to put some Thompsons Water Seal on the wood after it dries out a bit. Give it a more finished look. My daughter is going to want some structure to go along with the swings, so there is no rest for the weary, but at least this will distract her for a while. Maybe shell forget entirely.
