Engineer SS-02 Solder Suction Device

> 24 hourI saw some reviews about people dealing with clogging issues. The best way I found to avoid that is right after you suck up some solder, wait about 5 seconds before pumping out the solder. The solder forms in the shape of the tube and you can just pull it out in one piece.

> 24 hourI want to like it, i really do. I love the unmeltable tip and the metal body which gives it a feel of quality. I’m used to using a espon plastic solder sucker that clogs up and needs new tips frequently. This solder sucker has a lot going for it and I think they’re close to having something great but unfortunately they haven’t accomplished that. It doesn’t create enough suction for me. I can clean it out and stretch the spring out and it will work for a little while buy doesn’t take long for it to be ineffective again. I’ve given it a go for 6 months now and unfortunately I’ve found it to just not be worth the $30. Let me know when you have an updated model that consistently has more suction. UPDATE: So decided to lube the inside of it and that fixed my problem. I now have a reliable solder suckers with a relatively light “engagement” that is much more reliable than the plastic ones I was using. The rubber tip has fallen off a couple of times after some time but they are very cheap to replace (i like the plastic model I was using).

> 24 hourI tested it as soon as it arrived. Removed 5 of those little 4 pin tactile switches, an LED and a 5 pin connector. They all came off easily, and the LED fell out of the board. Cleans easily, one handed operation is a plus. Im probably getting 1 for work because its easier to use than the desoldering station there.

> 24 hourSucks like no other, the silicone tip lets you get RIGHT on the solder point, the best soldering work I have done was made using this tool.

> 24 hourMy pump only lasted about a months use. The handle snapped and can no longer use this. I’d recommend getting a more quality built pump than this brands. Doesn’t have the must longevity in use for it, don’t expect using for a long time. It will break eventually and which did in a very short time. Very disappointed in this pump even though I heard good things about this. Even my cheaper $7 pump does a better job and last longer.

> 24 hourIt feels like a high quality in your hands. This sucker worked great for removing solder on the pcb.

> 24 hourThe SS-02 is peak-engineering and design realized. It saves time, effort, & yields better results than the cheaper alternatives. I really only regret not buying this sooner. Desoldering ~65 switches with a cheap-o solder-sucker resulted in 3 or 4 instances of binding and needing to stop, open, & clean the tube. it took forever. Whereas, when using the SS-02 for an even larger amount of switches to desolder: i was able to work uninterrupted by tool maintenance and cleaning. The work became enjoyable! My attached photo is the end result of non-stop desoldering with no interruptions needed for cleaning or unbinding - though i did so afterwards to protect it from neglect. The only area for improvement i can think of is with the silicon tip - which i place directly on the ~350°C soldering tip when desoldering (a debated practice, from what ive researched): after doing this a few dozen times the silicon tip does show wear and functional degradation; though this is easily remedied by rotating the tip 180° &or flipping the silicon to its unused side. You can do this 4 times per sectioned tip, so itll still be a long time before i need to shop for silicon tubing. But I think this tool is an example of what peak-engineering and craftsmanship looks like and it would be easy to take it for granted had i not suffered through the less costly alternatives. An easy add to my short list of favorite tools for electrical work.
