I was very happy when setting up this turntable as it seemed to satisfy all my requirements without breaking the bank. However, after quite a few weeks of listening to it through my Rega Fono Mini Ive which I prefer to the built-in phono amp Ive detected a hum at relatively low volume levels. Ive tested and retested my ground connection but cannot make the hum go away. When I switch to the built in pre-amp no such hum exists so I can only assume it is something to do with the bypass circuitry. Very disappointing. I wish Id bought a Rega Planar 1 without preamp now...

I bought this turntable because I was getting into vinyl more seriously. I did not know much at the time, and learn a lot since, hence my reserves with the rt81.

Or...why would you buy new? I purchased the Fluance RT81 as a Like New open box thru Amazon from Fluance themselves. I am a know cheapskate and lover of expensive things. If its on sale and Ive always wanted one Im interested. If I dont NEED it and its full price I often PASS. That all said the Turntable:

I am a total newbie when it comes to vinyl but I am a HUGE music lover. All genres. Getting into vinyl is intimidating because you get experts telling you what to buy and how much money you need to spend to get decent sound. Its a bit daunting.I did a ton of research and the reviews from newbies like me and audiophiles about the RT81 sold me on this turntable. It fit within my budget and sounded reliable based on reviews. And I can tell you, it totally lives up to the hype. Its my very first turntable so I dont have much to compare it to, but I did grow up in the digital age so I know decent sound when I hear it. Its good, trust me. It has the classic look I was going for with the quality to match. Plus, the set up was a breeze. I havent touched a turntable in my life and I was able to get by with the instruction manual and the fluance videos (The videos were extra helpful when it came to balancing the tone arm). My grandpa was big into vinyl so picking up this hobby makes me feel closer to him. And Im so happy that fluance makes a good quality, BEAUTIFUL piece of equipment in my price range so that I can play his old records with confidence. Love it. Recommend it. Just do it. Seriously.

Worked great for one day. Day two, the right speaker wasnt working. The speakers are brand new as well, and I tested them with another turntable so its not them. Its this new turntable...something about the output, I guess. But I would expect a brand new product to work for more than a day. Very disappointing.
