Im a guitarist doing live shows. It tears off easily, tears off clean, removes easily, and removes absolutely clean. When the price went up, I tried the Amzn Basics brand. Bad move. If you want gaffers tape that does what it is supposed to do with no aggravation, just get the Real USA brand. There is literally a difference.

The last brand I had felt cheap and didnt adhere quite so well. This brand feels much more ruggedly built and has better adhesion. Id say it was worth the slight extra cost. Ill be ordering this brand from now on.

We use gaffer tape for our live sound work for a band. We tape it to the base of the mixer and label what/who is on each channel, and then easily remove it at the end of the gig if the mixer/system is being used by others. Also used to label the many XLR and 1/4 cables from mics/instruments to the mixer, and those used out to monitors for quick set up.

A few months back I was complaining about the mess the duct tape we were using was making on our hot machinery as it melted, and the residue it was leaving when people used it to tape down wires and such. An experienced maintenance guy told me to try gaffers tape. So I did, and Im nigh evangelical now: Avoid using duct tape for anything that gets hot (duct tape melts and gets gross), or anything you dont want a sticky residue on later (I dont have time to goo-gone every darn thing.) Gaffers tape stays put better, has equivalent tensile strength, tears off more neatly, doesnt melt with heat, and isnt shiny (well, its used for taping down wires and taping hot things in place on movie/theater sets; you dont want it to be shiny, you want it to be subtle.) Im not in theater or movies, but it works awesome for everything I need it to do also, and I love how it doesnt leave a mess or melt. I cant think of anything duct tape does better except tape stuff up so you can throw it away. Well, and duct tape *is* cheaper, if you arent the one cleaning up after it or reapplying it. You want to avoid any gaffer tape that looks like its made from paper, is shiny, or is made in China; theyre phony, and will melt, burn, or otherwise not be up to scratch. Im sure there are many great brands that are good, but this one is what I found first, it worked very well, and Ill be buying more of it. I recommend you buy a roll and see how it works for you.

I picked this up to help me mark and find things in the dark. I discovered a long time ago that remote controls, key fobs, all sorts of plastic objects love to disappear in my messy house. Im planning to add more colors of tape to sort-of color code things to find even in low light. Add a UV lamp or flashlight for best effects.

I love this stuff, and use it all the time. Ive ordered it twice. (I got the bright green color this time to make it easier to find in my toolbox. Or tool bag. Or tool pile.) I never buy duct tape. Gaffer tape sticks better, tears off the roll cleanly, remains flexible, and comes off when you want without leaving a residue. As a photographer, Ive been aware of the difference between gaffer tape and duct tape for a long time, but true gaffer tape is hard to find. Im glad I found it here on Amazon. ------- Editing to add: Just bought my third roll. There are so many uses for this tape. In addition to holding things in place for still life photography (including taping my muslin backdrop to the wall) I use it for my home improvement projects. Im remodeling my bathroom, and I used this to protect the threshold of my new shower pan and a PVC window sill. They would otherwise have gotten scuffed while working in the room. It holds firmly but comes off without tearing apart or leaving reside. I attached some trim with adhesive, and used this to hold it in place, knowing it would come off cleanly once the adhesive was dry. I like the bright green color because its easy to find when mixed up with other tools and parts. It also works well to write on for labeling parts or wires. I know this is a lot of words for just tape but it really is good stuff.

I work in IT. We run wires everywhere, be it extension cords or networking bundles. I have come to love gaffers tape as the soft super-viable alternative to the all-purpose duct tape when it comes to those types of jobs. At first, I bought whichever was cheapest, and slowly my lovely bundles of cords were becoming ugly with residue. After one particularly bad cheap roll which left one of the cords a different color a team member couldn’t take it anymore and spoke up. I was sufficiently schooled in the “right types” of gaffers tape, but I didn’t believe so I told them to put Some skin in the game. So they were going to buy this roll if I thought it was the same. Well, I’m pleased to say I paid for this roll. Just picking it up I could tell that this was softer and more pliable. It ripped easier. It stuck fast to carpet and came up easily with residue once pulled. It didn’t fold when unrolling and frustrate my crew by bonding to itself. I was able to cut into very thin strips and use as a temporary zip tie! Best of all, I found out that you can use this tape to REMOVE the residue that the bad tape left on my cords (also part of my schooling). Team member was in theater and brother still is. This tape is what they use to hold together their sets, and now I use it to hold together mine. Sometimes quality difference is great enough that you have to point out the actual price difference. Not that much extra in cost for at least a 200% better product. Buy this tape.
