I bought this printer less than 2 years ago, the ink is affordable, the copies and pics come out nice, the major downfall, is the printer just broke and its only 1 1/2 years old....something happened internally with the print cartridge cradle (no error on my part) and now its broken. I wish i read these reviews b4 buying this.

I was curious what the reviews were on this printer. In all this time, I havent checked. Im only writing to compensate. The negative reviews are brutal and for those considering buying one of these off amazon or craigslist now, its not fair to exaggerate our frustrations. I chose this printer at Best Buy when I as a little kid. I needed it for a science fair project or something. It was $100 back around 2005. Ive had this thing for around 9 years now and the paper feeding motor finally wore out. Ive been loading it with the heaviest matte paper I could find for years now. It only prints out regular paper for me now. Im sure someone could make use of that. I bought a new printer just yesterday and Im having trouble letting go of this one. This printer survived a house fire. The design of it still looks great to me, even though the plastic has yellowed away a little over the years and the ash. Cons (sortof): Ive been a graphic designer for quite a while, now, and Ive been using this printer faithfully since first learning photoshop. The prints arent exactly as they are on screen (Neither working on a PC or Mac - because Ive used both) but in all honesty, NOTHING is ever as on screen (no matter what anyone tells you, unless theyve invested hundreds of dollars in color profile calibration technology). The printer does use up ink pretty quickly. But those that dont tend to have more expensive ink that ends up averaging about the same over time. Its all the same., Id say. Also granted, the printer is very noisy. Im sure nearly all of them from its time were. Pros (mostly): Despite all that, its ups are very very high. The scanner on the machine is awesome for its time. I did some macro scans with the backboard lifted in the dark and they looked like pictures. Very very cool stuff. The DPI when scanning was pretty nice too. I think I went to 1600 or so before it started to choke up on me. The prints themselves were awesome too. Better than any other household printer Ive been around. The key is to play with the print settings and if anything the color profiles [rather than just pressing print and letting the default settings define your end result]. Ive printed at maxed out resolution for some mini posters and projects and Ive been blown away every time. My new Canon printer has some big shoes to fill. Cheers.

Dont buy this machine. My husband and I have been loyal HP printer customer for years. Only reason I bought a new one was because my new computer only accepts USB and my old HP printer was a parrallel port (thats how long my old HP has been working perfectly, and still is; gave to a friend). I purchased the HP PSC 1510 for my home office thinking adding copy and scanning capabilites would be nice conveniences. Im on my second one and its now doing the same thing: doesnt feed paper(regardless of what kind you use to try and please it) no customer service at Help button-links to sales web site no customer service assistance on phone Ink cartridges VERY small....replace constantly and they are expensive Does HP make a decent model under $200 anymore? Im returning this one too. Takes up my whole day fiddling with it. Dont need a fax. Just color printer, occasional copies, and scanner. Shame on HP. [email protected]

I just picked up this printer used today. Im not sure about the print quality, thats because its out of black ink, but still has a little tri-color left in it. Im hoping to use refill cartridges(?) in the future to save money. As per some of the previous reviews, I understand I will need a higher quality paper than just copier paper, so I plan to get some of that to start. A couple issues with the software that I had are worth mentioning. The HP Photosmart Studio software I downloaded from HP for Mac initially froze every time I tried to do something with the scans. It turns out one of the processes it does kills your processor. Its called keyword albums. You have to modify a .plist file or else delete it. I deleted it and the Photosmart software seems to be working fine now.

I bought this printer about a month ago and, in general, am happy with it. I replaced the color cartridge with the photo cartridge ($25 extra) and printed some 4x6 on HPs premium plus photo paper and was floored with the quality. I compared the printed photos to photos I had printed professionally and you can not tell the difference (actually, you can tell if you run your finger over the surface of the print, the HP is textured, I assume to ink build-up, the other was perfectly smooth). Five stars for print quality. The scanner is pretty good, if not a little slow. Four stars. The biggest problem Ive found is, like other posts, the ink is simply WAY too small. Leaving this printer to only print the most boring tech manuals and web pages, other wise youd just use too much ink. Three stars. The install was a big problem. I have Windows XP Media Center 2005 and the install crashed the system half way through. On the plus side, it recovered perfectly and picked up where it left off. However, crashing a computer on a driver install is unforgivable. One star. Like I said, overall Im fairly happy with it. It does what it says it does. However, because of the cost of ink and price per print, Im going to return this and get a higher end printer (3210 or 3310 with six individual ink cartridges and lower-total cost of ink) Buy this if you do not intend to print photo-quality pages often, its a great printer. If you want to print photos once in awhile, it prints beautifully. But if you intend on printing presentation level documents and photos, do yourself a favor and get something that can handle more ink.

when it works its pretty good, but the paper is constantly getting jammed, and the scanner frequently only scans part of the page. After a few months of using it, I found it helpful to load the paper one page at a time, I know it sounds like that would be a pain to do, but actually its easier to put the paper in one page at a time, than to deal with the constant paper jams or the printer not being able to reconize that it has paper already loaded

This is the worst printer I have ever owned. HP should be ashamed of themselves for having created such a low-quality product. I always dread having to print anything. The worst part about it is how often you have to replace the print cartridges. What a scam! I will make sure not to buy HP next time when I finally replace this garbage.

I got this printer basically for free when I got a new iMac Intel Core Duo. Now I understand why they were pushing to get this printer out of inventory! It delivers good prints, scans, and copies. However, there were numerous issues with the software, and also numerous problems with communication between the Mac and the printer. The worst problem, though, is when it decided it didnt want to feed paper any more. This is evidently a common problem with this series of printer, since HP has addressed it on their support website. I followed all of their directions to fix the problem, and still it wont feed paper. So, rather than waste the time on getting it fixed, Im just going to junk it and get something else. Im not thrilled with the HP software ... it gets almost as many updates to fix things as Windows!! I strongly recommend people spend the extra money to get a better printer. This one got two stars because it was free, and has an interesting design that complimented the Mac.

My old printer was on its last leg so I had been on the hunt for a replacement for about a month. I use mine for a home based business so I didnt want to spend a ton of money nor did I want to end up with a piece of junk either. You all know the saying you get what you pay for, well that does not ring true with this printer. I only paid $89.99, which is really cheap for an all-in-one unit, and I would have gladly paid more had I known how wonderful it was going to be! Installation was a breeze, however I did make a slight error during the print alignment part of the installation process but was able to log on to the HP website and chat live with a customer service rep who helped me fix the mistake in no time at all. I love the size of this machine, it isnt bulky at all, and fits perfectly on the shelf under my desk. I like the fact that I can hook my digital camera right into the printer which makes it easy to print my photos in a hurry. I am impressed with the quality of the pictures, they are beautiful; the colors are so crisp and clear, its like I had them developed at a photo-center. Even better is the fact that the print cartridges are under $20 a piece, not the case with my old printer, they were over $25 a piece, ouch! As for longevity, so far I havent had any problems; there hasnt been any paper jams, nor any software malfunctions that other reviewers have reported with the older version of this printer. Bottom line is if you are looking for a printer for personal use or for a home based business like myself then this printer is exactly what you are looking for. You just cant beat its quality for such a small price tag!

At first the unit was temperamental and would not work well the ink cartridges. After a couple of days and some cleaning, it starting working well and printing well. I had purchased this used because, I still had several refurbished cartridges to use and go thru a lot of them printing. This is my 3rd PSC 1510 printer. The newer printers and cartridges would be a lot more expensive to use. I have not bought a new cartridge in years. If you buy in large quantities you can get refurbished ink for about $7 each, about 1/4 of the new cartridge cost and they work the same. Not all refurbish manufacturers are the same; some are much better than others. I do know that this unit will hit end of life soon and the cartridges will eventually not be available. But for 10 years or more,it has been very economical and works great.
