Bought this as a Christmas present. Went to use it last week -- after using it, we thought we had a major electrical problem with the house so we called an electrician. The electrician told us the problem -- the tester is DEFECTIVE. Disappointed as Klein is a reputable company. Not sure if its because of Amazon -- dissatisfied.

This is a good tool to find a breaker that needs to located, in a panel box, simple to use, plug the transmitter in the outlet, ( if you purchased the accessory bundle, it will include a lamp bulb to outlet adapter, and a set of alligator clips to outlet, for raw wire connections ) the transmitter also functions as an indicator when the circuit is energized ( tally lights illuminate ), and it will indicate how the outlet is wired, ( reversed polarity, missing ground, etc. ), then you turn on the detector, and go to the fuse/breaker panel box/board, then you start at the top of the row of breakers and slowly drag the device down, on each bank of breakers, the unit will buzz/light-up, somewhat randomly, you do this ,so the device can learn the panel-board, then do a second sweep of the breakers, and it will locate the circuit that the transmitter is connector to, works pretty well, like 85-90 percent of the time, if you have sub-panels, it will only show the breaker for the sub-panel, you will have to repeat the sweep method, on the sub-panel it self, and you will have to turn off the sweep device and re start the process on the sub panel to find the breaker/circuit, try to use fresh batteries, year old batteries will give so,so results, I date stamp my batteries when inserting, so there no question as to how old they are

I loved it, I needed it to track down breakers because I needed to exchange some of my outlets in my home.

Works like a charm! Moved into a house and all the electric panel had general lighting down 11 CB. No idea what CB went to what. But now I have an idea. Yay
