Ive had this less than 2 months and not at all happy with the self-locking feature. It doesnt always stay and, the longer you extend it, the more likely it is to slip. You have to try and hold it down with one hand while marking your measurement with the other (which might be OK for approximate measurements, but definitely not for anything that has to be exact.) There is no manual lock - only a manual release. Ill find some use for this, but probably have to buy another tape.

This is a great tape measure. The tape stays in place when pulled out for measurements and retracts easily and quickly by pressing the release button. Recommend!

This seems to be quality. It certainly feels like it. Weve had one in our office for about two months now and no issues. I certainly dont mind buying more of these to spread around the office at this cost. Far less expensive than my craftsman and still does the job. Every one likes the yellow tape as well.

I probably have 10 measuring tapes around, someplace, but who knows where they are when you need one. And I needed one for an upcoming project. Decided to get a decent one. Most major brands have a lock that slides down to hold the tape in place, this one does not require you to push anything down to lock it into place, only have to push to retract. It is not quite as fancy as some, does not have metric, but will easily meet my needs for this project.

My tape was not locking after some usage. I assumed it was a defect in the tape. However, I found that I was misusing it and causing it not to lock properly. The locking feature depends on the rewind using the automatic rewind button to retract. However, I was occasionally pushing the tape back into the cassette manually which created some slack internally which resulted in the lock feature failing to work properly. To correct this I extended the tape to its maximum length and rewound it using the retract button. Viola, this cured the locking problem. Maybe most of you out there already knew this, but I was never aware of how this was supposed to be used.

When you purchase a lower-priced product, your expectations are low, however, I was delighted to learn that the product performed as well as the highest-priced product. Looks good too.

I love the locking feature. Ive snapped my fingers with tape measures in the past. Not possible with this tape measure.
