> 3 dayMy old tape broke and I bought this one because of the lock feature. The green color makes it easy to spot while getting mixed up in a project. The lock feature enables me to use it and not have to ask someone to hold it for me while measuring. Highly recommend it.

> 3 dayIf you are someone that needs a tape measure like this for daily use (construction, etc.), pay a little more for one that will last. This is good for occasional use, but will not last for regular use.

> 3 dayThis tap measure is just what I wanted. My last one, different brand , just snapped, so I thought Id have to shell out another 25 bucks for a new one. Came across this Komelon ,and it not only has the self stop feature, but also the retract button that wont smack you in the face. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, for one reason. The hard plastic packaging. There are layers upon layers of this material, and it takes forever to get it off. I needed scissors and a utility knife to get it out. And it was very dangerous, because of the sharp edges from the plastic and tools, could have very easily cut myself. I was thoroughly ticked off by the time I was done. The hardest part was getting the belt clip free, as it is swathed above it, on the sides, and below it where its screwed in place. I cant believe some moron came up with this design, and other morons approved it. There have to be dozens of easier ways to package this tape measure, like maybe a cardboard box, but they picked this one. Theres no way Ill buy another when this one bites the dust, unless they change the packaging. Id rather pay the extra money, than to go through the grief of opening this one.

Greater than one weekI probably have 10 measuring tapes around, someplace, but who knows where they are when you need one. And I needed one for an upcoming project. Decided to get a decent one. Most major brands have a lock that slides down to hold the tape in place, this one does not require you to push anything down to lock it into place, only have to push to retract. It is not quite as fancy as some, does not have metric, but will easily meet my needs for this project.

Greater than one weekThis measuring tape is super sturdy, large and easy to read, and reasonably priced. Its a bit on the bulky side, but not too bad

05-06-2025Have always used the self retracting tapes where you had to manually lock them. Its so great not having to worry about the tape snapping back because the end wasnt secure. It takes a little getting use to working backwards, pushing the button to extend / retract the tape, but it doesnt take long before you really appreciate the difference. The tape is easily readable. Not sure about how long the self locking mechanism will last, but so good, so far.

> 3 dayPros Self Lock mechanism (this is awesome) - can be operated with one hand. Nylon coated blade - more durable and less likely to cut your hand. Rubber grip - comfortable and easy to hold. Cons Measurements printed on one side only (most tapes are also one-sided) No dual imperial/metric units. I originally purchased this tape measure thinking that Self Lock might be useful, but probably overrated. What a surprise. It was immensely useful. There is no longer the need to manually lock the tape in position every time it is pulled out. If the tape is attached to my belt, it can also be operated with one hand. Rubber grip surrounds and protects the body while making it comfortable to hold and easy to use. The rubber is also on the opening to act as a buffer protecting it from rewinding forces. Pressing and holding the button will rewind the tape, although I would recommend gradually guiding the tape back by hand. The nylon coated blade will not cut your fingers. The green accents are interesting, distinguishing itself from all the other yellow tape measures. 5/8-in. width tape allows it to be lightweight and compact. However, the short-width tape begins to sag at 3 ft., and collapses at ~5.5 ft. Komelon offers .75 and 1 in. widths with their longer tapes if needed. The measurements are only printed on one side in case anyone find themselves in a situation where they need the other side, although this is intentionally a one-sided tape so it is not really a con. It is too bad Komelons Self Lock series does not offer dual imperial/metric units. This would double their usefulness. The Self Lock mechanism makes this an excellent tape measure and a pleasure to use. I also have a basic non-Self Lock Komelon with imperial/metric units, and keep coming back to this one even though it lacks metric units. Now that I am spoiled by Self Lock, I dont think I will ever go back to manually operated tape measures again.
