When I went to take apart our 20 year old Lasko fan to clean it I Googled how to disassemble the specific model and unfortunately discovered it had been recalled due to a fire issue. I called Lasko and asked about a replacement, but the recall was so old, they were only able to provide me with the part that attaches to the cord to repair the fan. I am paranoid about fires, so I cut the cord, recycled the bulk of the plastic and tossed the remainder of the motor and started to search for a new fan. I assumed (sigh) that a commercial grade metal fan would be my best option for a replacement as we used our fan for noise elimination more than airflow. Here is the deal on this fan: It is not loud. Compared to a plastic Lasko Wind Machine we purchased a couple months ago, this metal Lasko fan is quiet. It has a weird high pitch whirring noise that my husband says sounds like a small airplane. The difference between the 1-2-3 settings is almost not there. We had a hard time telling when the fan was turned up or down. The wind or air movement is impressive when compared to the Lasko Wind Machine (plastic). Our Aussie loves to lay in front of the fan and she sat in front of the metal Lasko and with her fur blowing around her face. The plastic Lasko, is loud, but it does not move the air nearly as well. This fan is really easy to put together. It snaps in two parts and the controls attach on the side. There is a clamp for the window that we have not used, so I do not know how difficult it is. The fan itself is not heavy, so its easy to move around. Honestly, if you can handle the whir, and dont need the fan for noise reduction, this is the fan for you. If you want a noisy fan that blows air, go with the Lasko Wind Machine (plastic).

Our house AC is usually off during the day upstairs, we have a split ac downstairs. Sometimes it doesnt feel worth it to turn on the AC even when were at home at night. So this fan comes in handy! Noise is loud, but it really doesnt matter. Its a nice fan with lots of power. thats all we needed. Originally this was bought so that our dogs could be outside when we need them to be. Or if they are having digestive issues we could leave them in their crate outside without mosquitoes or bugs messing with them. Buy it! Other than the nose level its a great fan so far. Will update if it breaks down.

It looks, feels, and works identically to the one I bought 8 years ago. It cost almost the same. Super pleased already. I think people would like this for a shop fan. It *is* noisy. It isnt easy to move. But thats not why you buy this fan. You buy it because it is powerful for its size, affordable, and super functional. The bracket could hang this from the rafters in the garage. We used the last one like a whole house fan. For about half the year, we would run it from 10pm to 6am to pull air through the house by blowing out an upstairs window. After 8 years, that one got bogged down with dust and hair and wouldnt turn over one day. Yknow what? Im happy.

I just received the Lasko. This fan is not as powerful as my Powermax High Velocity fan I got for about $20 cheaper at Walmart a year ago. That doesnt mean that the Lasko is not a good fan. But Ive been running my Powermax for 10 hrs. in the daytime and for about 8 hours thru the night and wanted a second fan so Id be less likely to burn out either fan motor from running that long by itself. The Lasko is a little louder than the Powermax but the noise doesnt bother me, especially at night. Ill probably run the Lasko at night since its the loudest, and the Powermax in the daytime so I can hear the TV. :) The 3 Lasko fan speeds are not much different from each other. You will notice only a slight fan speed jump from the first speed to the 2nd, and the 2nd to the 3rd. However, the lowest Powermax speed is more powerful than the highest Lasko speed. Im afraid to use the 3rd speed on the Powermax for fear it might just take off. Its super loud. But the wind it blows just doesnt go very far beyond the fan, maybe 10 feet? Sounds a lot more powerful than it is. Maybe they just need to tweek the blades? The test as to whether or not I keep the Lasko will be tonight when I touch the motor to see if it has gotten hot after running for at least 8 hours. Ill let you know. The Powermax motor does get hot but Ive not run it continually more than 10 hours at a time. My only complaints with the Powermax are that the motor does get hot after hours of use, and there is NO brand name anywhere on the model. I didnt know what it was until I found it in the description online at Walmart. The Lasko should meet the needs of almost anyone needing a powerful fan. It gets good reviews and it seems to be reliable, lasting for a long time. So of course I would recommend it. Oh...my new Lasko is the black one and its a good looking fan. And it couldnt be simpler to set up. Itll take you about 30 seconds. You only need to snap on the legs and screw in the Dial that sits on the leg. (I wish these guys would put the Dial on the top of the fan.) Im just using it as a floor fan. So....after Ive tested the Lasko motor to see if it gets hot after many hours of use, Ill come back and let you know. Edit: It looks like you could run this Lasko fan 24/7 and it wont ever get hot. Ive very pleased about that but... Be WARNED....there is a metal part that sticks out on the left side as youre facing the fan and Ive got a nice bloody gash on my calf as a result of walking past it in the night. The metal piece is about as high as eye level for a medium sized dog so just be aware of that and do what you can to cover that part with something so it cant do damage to animals and humans. :)
