So initially I bought the fan for my outside patio and it works great to keep a nice breeze during the very hot Florida summers. But this past Labor Day, I decided to take it along with me on my trip to Cedar Key with the RV, and that was probably the best decision Ive made in sometime. During the long weekend, me and the wife and our Boston Terrier, Winston, enjoyed sitting outside of the RV watching TV and enjoying the cool breeze. Winston may have enjoyed it more than us, he frequently laid directly in front of the fan to cool off. This was a great purchase and has many applications to keep you cool.

I have never paid quite this much for a fan, but I would make this purchase again in a heartbeat. The shape is stable; we had a squarish box fan that got knocked over all the time, made a terrible racket. Theres a carry handle for when you have to move it from one room to another, but its a big fan, meant--as the name indicates--to sit on the floor and pretty much stay there. If you want a little desk thing you can regularly take from room to room, this isnt it. This is the workhorse you want on a miserable hot day with the air conditioning off, or no air conditioning--as is often the case here in Seattle, where few homes have central air and a few more have a window unit that doesnt cool the whole house. Its the sort of fan that kids will fight to be in front of until a parent or grandparent comes in and barks at them to all go siddown. And its the sort of fan that a woman that hates heat like grim death wants when her husband moans that he is cold if she turns the window unit on. For goodness sake, its 85 degrees out there! Its a sauna in here, and we cant use the a/c? The hell you say. No, fine. Its fine. Ill turn on the fan. No, I am NOT turning the fan off at bedtime! People comment on the noise level. Its about the same as having the fan over the stove running. Will it interfere with your TV show? Quite possibly. I dont watch a lot of TV, but if I had to choose comfort or entertainment, I would choose comfort. Turn the TV off and the fan on. You can still have a conversation with others as long as nobody mumbles. There are three fans in this house, not counting the oscillating fan on a skinny, unstable stand that was broken right away by a resident teenager. The other two that remain are a weak little thing that sits tidily on a desk top, and another big floor fan similar to this one but made of white plastic (and apparently no longer being sold.) If I had to pick just one of them to keep, it would be this one. But also, I have reasonably large rooms in my house.. If I were in a very small apartment, I might rethink it. Look at the measurements on the specifications here before you make the purchase if you arent sure a big ol fan like this one can go in the room where you want it.

After inquiring about how loud it was, I decided to buy this fan about a year ago. I wanted loud. I need loud. I am a light sleeper, and if I get woken up, it takes me forever to get back to sleep...been that way my whole life, so I need something to block out random noises, and have one, steady white noise. This fan does the trick for almost every noise that goes on in the outside world. I say almost because while this fan is fantastic, nothing on earth will block out noise by inconsiderate neighbors who have decided that the entire block wants to hear their garbage music blasted out of their truck stereo, with all doors and windows of the truck wide open as it sits in front of their house, at top volume every single day. It blocks some of the racket, but if you have those types of neighbors, this will not block out all of it, even on the highest setting. I dont think that theres a fan loud enough to block out the horrendous thundering bass that slams in to the otherwise calm of the neighborhood, so that is not the fault of this fan. Also, I put it in front of the screen door at night in the summer time to draw cool air in to the place to cut down on a/c bills. During the day, I put it in front of the a/c so that the fan will blow the cool air farther in to the room, and it also helps to cut down the cost of the electric bill as running this fan doesnt cost as much as turning the a/c down to a colder temperature to keep from sweating it out during the day. The only issue I have with this fan is that it is a pain to clean. I have looked several times over, and I do not see any way to simply unclick a connection to take the face grill off of the fan to get inside and clean the blades. I have to use tools, small tools, to unscrew the screws to get in there and clean it up...or I have to get fancy with a chopstick or two and pull hair (pet hair) that has been whipped around and stuck to the blades. It would be nice if the front grill was easier to remove in order to clean it more often to keep it functioning for a long time. I have had this fan on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for almost an entire year. The only time I turn it off is when Im cleaning the fan. This fan is still going strong with that kind of use. If you are looking for a quiet fan, this isnt it. If you are looking for a fan to drown out sounds from the outside, need a nice white noise to fall asleep, draw hot air out of your home in the evening, and draw cool air in to the home at night, this is the fan.

As I write this review Im being cooled and blown away by this powerful fan. Even on the lowest of the 3 speeds this fan moves a lot of air. Solidly built and well designed, Ive purchased 2 of these fans and will probably purchase more.
