Liquitex BASICS Gesso Surface Prep Medium, 473ml (16-oz) Bottle, White

I needed this for my wood earrings to hide the wood grain and you cant see it after 1 coat of this paint

Update: Do not like this Basic gesso from Liquitex!! It come up while painting. If ur doing acrylic pouring or fluid arts be careful it will leave chunky textures if using it with a brush or a belt knife the lighter you go the less visible marks but it still comes up textured and it may not be that pretty to most art techniques. Dries fast! Not permanent! Definitely learned not to sand with this product their original yes but the basic one no! Go for golden acrylics gesso looking for cheaper options are wood look as clear just so or the spray cans for prep works much better than gesso only on certain surfaces it works best on not all. Good product dries fast. Not a fan when it comes to sanding to smooth it & apply another layer made last layer come up. Made the 2nd layer of gesso not sanded. Other then that doing a acrylic pour over many different types Of surfaces with Liquitex Gesso work good. Made acrylic pouring on ceramic tile work/look much better!!

This is Total Garbage, a$5.00 can of Spray Paint works MUCH better. NOTHING is WORSE then this It is IMPOSSIBLE to get a smooth finish. It is so thick that it leaves ridges that must be sanded, A LOT. It might be worth the effort IF it covered in one or two coats. I am covering a red and white box so I can paint it a different color and want the new color to be even. This will not cover. After two coats waiting 24 hours and not sanding between coats, I can still read the fine print (red on white) on the box and the red pictures are still very visible. A bottle of 10 cent childrens water color paint would cover better in ONE coat. NEVER USE this if you want to end up with a smooth high gloss finish. After and hour of sanding trying to get this smooth and removing most it, it looked smooth and felt smooth...... BUT after priming with a Rust-Oleum gloss white paint & primer I can still see the ridges. Good thing this was a test piece. Now I know - NEVER use this on anything that you want to have a quality finish

Not the cheapest, for sure, but, easy to apply, thick but easily spreadable, with a smooth texture (no clumps or pieces of anything). I am doing a lot of experimenting, and needed some gesso to be able to reuse canvases. So far I cannot complain. Dries to a nice good consistency of an acrylic prepped canvas, paint goes onto it quite well. If you have managed to peel off some old paint and the canvas threads are showing, this will cover it up in 3 layers and make it look brand new, be prepared to let them dry between applying. I cannot speak as to archival quality as of yet, have not used it for long, but so far, Im happy!
