I had put off installing string lights on my deck hoping that Lutron would add an outdoor switch to the Caseta line. I installed the lights when I heard that their switch was coming soon, but I grew impatient and decided to try a much less expensive Homekit-ready wi-fi switch from another manufacturer. After 4 hours I was unable to get it working (despite meeting and following all recommendations and requirements). Fortunately, the Lutron Smart Plug became available for pre-order, and finally arrived last week. The complete setup, including Homekit and Alexa integration, took a grand total of 5 painless minutes. I cant speak to how installation will go with other hubs and systems, but this product is a no-brainer for existing Caseta users. The setup couldnt have been easier, and the switch has (so far) proved as dependable as the other Caseta products in my home. It is expensive and lacks certain features found in similar devices, but Ill gladly pay more for a fast, stress-free installation, seamless integration with my existing Caseta system, and complete reliability. And the build quality of this plug is extremely robust; it is clearly designed to withstand changing weather conditions with heavy-duty cabling and a solid enclosure.

I replaced some older Insteon equipment with the Caseta hub, switches and now this appliance controller. All is working well and is easy to use.

I got this to make my outdoor landscape lights smarter. I already had the Caseta system setup indoors, for lots of switches, including ones that controlled the porch and garage. Those run on a sunset/sunrise schedule, and after adding this outdoor plug, the landscape lights run on the exact same schedule. Works beautifully.

I bought 2 for my outdoor string lights, best decision ever. I chose to control it thru the Lutron app rather than Alexa. I now have 9 Lutron Caseta plugs and Im extremely happy with their performance. These outdoor plugs have replaced my old timers, theyre resistant to our extreme heats and rainfall. Highly recommend it.

Use to turn on/off exterior spot lights in my property. Smart plug works very well and setups/integrates easily into Lutron app. But, I did have to move my Lutron hub to a more central location in my house as one plug was initially out of range

Here is the bottom line this outdoor plug is expensive, built like an absolute tank and will always stay connected to the hub so what are you exactly paying for then? Easy... quality. What sets Lutron apart and why you are paying a premium is the build quality and Clear Connect RF, Lutrons proprietary communication technology that runs on 434mhz and why does that matter? Glad you asked the lower the frequency the further it can go through thick walls and open air meaning you can have these outside and not need to worry if they will connect. Also basically nothing uses 434mhz anymore so nothing is going to intefere with the signal, your wifi wont, your ZigBee wont and your z-wave wont. Basically the only thing that still uses 434 are old garage door opener remotes and only in a real short busy and very infrequent. In my 1930s house that is double bricked with Lath and Plaster walls Lutron devices have zero issues connecting and staying connected. All the wifi, ZigBee and zwave alternatives I tried would sometimes go offline. So if you already got a Lutron Hub and never want to deal with any issues with whatever you plug into this thing this is the product for you

This works great for our Christmas lights to come on and off - and we have it linked to our phone so it adds to the joy of the ultimate control without being home - and switching it on and off!

I set up two of these smart plugs with the Lutron app. They work perfectly. Setup was super quick and easy. I use them to turn on/off our commercial Keurigs so that theyre off overnight and turn on (and warm up) first thing in the morning. Im hoping that having the machines off overnight will help to reduce the burn-in that was occurring in the cheap Keurig LCD screens.

Everything all the other posters said is right, it’s well made and easy to use and reliable. Just putting this note here for anyone else who is buying too fast and skimming instead of reading (like I was) - the price does NOT mean you have every feature possible. It doesn’t dim. Had it plugged in and running my patio decor when I realized it can’t dim the lights - ugh. Already threw away box and everything. Only outdoor smart plug with dimmable features that connects to Apple HomeKit I could find is WAY cheaper, so I guess that’s my silver lining. This well-made, expensive item is going into a drawer for storage until I have another use (that doesn’t need dimming). Side note - have been transitioning to the Caseta product line and am really liking the reliability and functionality.
