> 3 dayIve tried this switch and a competitors. This one was always easy to use with Homekit. Always responded showing its status and switching on request. The competitors usualy was not responding. Maybe the competitor may improve when they update the firmware, but by now I would recommend Meross to be sure it will work properly.

> 3 dayI don’t use HomeKit. The requirement to plug in for 15 minutes to allow installing without HomeKit was not highlighted. I found the requirement based on info shown on the lid of the plug box after numerous tries to install like I have done many times before without having to use the 15 minute requirement. The devices work great.

21-11-2024The pairing process was a bit goofy (it is easier to just plug the outlets in and then join the ad-hoc wifi network from the device before doing anything else). I now have these devices working 100% reliably with both HomeKit as well as the Meross App. The low price, relatively compact size, and (now that they are working) instant response via HomeKit make these a winner in my view. HomeKit Problem and Solution: Via the Meross app, everything was working great, but the HomeKit status and control was very spotty. It would work for a few minutes and then the outlet would randomly be declared no response via HomeKit. After a bit of research and fiddling, I realized that my network was not playing well with the low level communication that Apple uses for HomeKit. In general: - Your wifi access points need to forward multicast DNS (mDNS) between 2.4g and 5g networks - Your wired network needs to forward mDNS between the wifi devices and any wired devices you are using with HomeKit (such as an AppleTV). - If you have an advanced home network with separate VLANs for IOT devices such as these outlets, then you will need a multicast reflector to forward the multicast traffic from the IOT VLAN to the VLAN where your mobile devices are located (for example, your iPhone / iPad / AppleTV). This can be as easy as ticking a box in the router/switch, or it could be a very long journey. Depending on how complicated your home network is, this will all just work without any effort, might require finding the correct setting in a WiFi AP or router, or might not work at all. In my case, I had to go into my UniFi controller and select Enable multicast enhancement (IGMPv3) under Wireless Settings > Advanced Settings. After this setting was pushed out to my UniFi APs, HomeKit was working perfectly from all of my iPhones and these outlets. Update: I also had to disable “airtime fairness” on my UniFi 2.4g radio settings.

> 3 dayI had a plug before that the app no longer worked with my Apple integration, so tried this one. It was easy to install, but there was slight confusion between using the Meross app or Apple Home. Perhaps if there is a newer version of the app you would be able to tick a box to use one or the other and keep it that way to avoid the confusion.

> 3 dayThese HomeKit compatible smart plugs are super easy to setup with your iPhone. They are 2.4 ghz only but no issues with my dual band router.

> 3 dayI have no issues with Meross smart plugs. I recommend them 100% over WeMos if youre making a choice. Their customer service is also fantastic. The QR code rubbed off one of the outside switches and they were able to recover and send it to me to put it back on my network. Meross smart plugs all the way!

24-11-2024These things pair with HomeKit instantly and easily, be sure to take a picture of the QR code on the plug before you plug it in, then just copy and paste it from your photos to HomeKit app.

> 3 dayI have had a battle trying to set these up with HomeKit. Meross provides a ton of troubleshooting methods such as restarting the router, turn iPhone on/off, switch Wi-Fi to 2.4GHz, factory reset the switch. I have never been more frustrated setting up a HomeKit product. After all this troubleshooting I could only get 2 out of 4 to pair, and after all this troubleshooting I have no idea what was actually successful. The two that are paired work great, but my oh my was getting them setup a huge pain. EDIT: once they are paired, they are a breeze, and an awesome product that is great for the price.

> 3 dayUpdated 17-November 2021 - Back to 5 stars. I was contacted by support and had numerous back and forth emails. They explained to me the reason for the reboots and the solution they developed to resolve the reboots. They released a new firmware for the devices and made it available OTA. I updated my units and the reboots stopped. For the technically-minded, it had to do with IPv6 and an older API in their firmware that would reboot. The newer firmware corrected this and I have been able to return my minis back in service. Updated 13-Aug 2021 - The units reboot all of the time making things connected like TVs or lights go off and on. Tried tech support. Reduced to 1 star *Original* - It seems most of these arrive with firmware 4.1.11. When you add them to your Home the Apple Home app will complain there is an update available (notification and icon and everything) but the Meross app says there is not one available. This can be annoying however, use my instructions below to fix it and upgrade to 4.1.12. But it will require you to use two iOS devices. Below I use an iPhone and iPad for mine. But no reason you can’t use two iPhones or two iPads (Meross app is not made to use on iPad but will work). To clarify, this is what to do: 1- Install Meross app on iPhone and iPad (unfortunately Meross requires an account to update firmware) 2- Plug in the Smart Plug Minis one at a time into the wall (this is to avoid confusion selecting and updating) 3- Launch the Meross app on iPhone, click + on upper right of the app to add a device and then scroll down to Smart Plug Mini 4- Step through the Wifi steps and select the Meross Wifi that pops up, choose connect and add to home 5- It will pop open the Home app and then you scan the QR code and then step through the Home app process to add 6- Once added then switch quickly to your other iOS device (iPad in my case) but already have the Meross app open. 7- Select the + on the home screen and it will show a new device needs to be added 8- Click OK and then go back to the home screen of the Meross app and then select Account. A firmware update shows available 9- Apply the Firmware and Bob’s your Uncle. I hope this helps anyone else that this happens too. I really like my Meross plugs. They are very quick to respond.
