I guess it never specifically indicated it Smart Things integration, but as a device labeled as Smart, you would think that it would. With the features that it does include, it works well. I was pleasantly surprised how easy the setup was. No glitches. Works pretty much on the first try for most devices. I did have to do it a couple times on one other device but ended up working out. I like that this plug doesnt take up the space of 2 plugs like some do and then it ends up hogging up both receptacles on a duplex. One great feature on this that I use all the time is a physical button on the side of the unit that allows you to turn on/off the device manually. I use this device to plug in my LiPo charger which doesnt have an on/off switch.

Im using them with Google Home. All but 1 connected without any issues at all. The 4th one took several tries but finally connected and has been working fine ever since. My only complaint is that in a 4 outlet bank they slightly block the receptacle next to it. This is much better than it being too tall and blocking one at the top or button though.

    Greater than one week

Instructions are a bit sketchy. When joining the Meross Wi-Fi as directed a “no internet connection” message kept popping up which makes you think there’s a problem. Apparently this is to be expected because if you ignore that message and go back to the Meross app it says the smart plug is ready to go. So far they work well ……time will tell.

All smart plugs are not created equal. When evaluating smart plugs look for their amperage rating. Generally the higher the amp rating the more robust the unit. This one has a rating of 15 amps. Weve had it a week or so and so far so good. We had similar plugs several months ago (costing more money) and they didnt last but a few weeks. A few weeks ago I bought an EFUN 1 amp smart plug during a flash sale. I liked it so ordered another one. The second EFUN unit failed immediately after the first use. I suspect that it wasnt robust enough and the internal wiring wasnt heavy enough to carry a modest electrical load. My first EFUN remains chugging along. I replaced that second EFUN with this Meross. Last night I weighed them both and was surprised by the weight diffference. The EFUN weighed 48 grams while the Meross weighed 83 grams. The Meross feels more solidly built and was only a couple dollars more than the EFUN. The Meross was easy to set up, but has one more setup involved than the EFUN. I think the app for the Meross is of better design than the Smart Life app that the EFUN and other smart plugs use. FWIW- Back in March I ordered two Teckin brand (16amp) smart plugs. They stopped functioning a few weeks later because they stopped recognizing our wifi network and I could not get them to reinitialize and reinstall. They use the same Smart Life app as the EFUN. As I said, I think the Meross app is designed better. Consequently the Teckin units were sent back as we couldnt get them to function once the were no longer recognizing our wifi. So, I guess Im giving a qualified recommendation for the Meross smart plugs. Time will tell. If something changes I will come back and update this review.

A problem with this smart plug is, once you’ve programmed it, if you change your wifi password, you have to delete the device from your app and add it back to start all over again. There’s no way to just edit password—which would be so much easier. It’s fine once you’ve programmed/automated it.

What drew me to these versus some other smart outlets was the ability to understand where they are installed geographically and plan a schedule based on sunrise or sunset. Anytime Ive used timers Ive constantly had to modify the times. Is it daylight savings time or not? Is it winter or summer? This smart outlet lets you create a scheduled based on sunrise or sunset. You can select sunrise or sunset then set an event time before or after that up to 11h 59m from that point in time. Activate right at sunset, no problem. Activate 23 m after sunset, no problem. Activate 3h 17m before sunset, no problem. Basically you have full control. Auto off after X minute events can be scheduled. Combined with sunrise/sunset you have very flexible control. Events can be schedule for a specific day of the week or all days, or some days of the week. The schedules you set can easily be enabled or disabled with a simple toggle on/off. When you travel. enable the scheduled events, when you return, disable it until next time with a flick of a finger. Both features were missing with other smart outlets Ive used. With previous outlets you could only delete a scheduled event to disable it. When it was time to need it again, I had to re-create it. They also didnt have sunset or sunrise features, you had to use a specific time and you had to modify it as seasons changed. I was able to create a scene that would turn all outlets off with a tap, or on with a tap. Scenes could include all or some devices. The setup using the built-in wifi was a little more difficult compared to the two other smart outlets Ive used. This was a little frustrating but it seemed to work better if you remained very close (a few feet) from the outlet during initial installation. It takes a few minutes so if you plan it properly and use an outlet convenient to remaining close by for several minutes you might experience less frustration than I did. All four of mine needed a firmware update that wasnt forced but was easy to install. I do not have Alexa or Google Assistant but it claims to integrate with them. I use mine without integration, simply using the app for all features.

I’ve tried multiple brands of smart plugs and found these to be the most reliable.

I am very interested in automating a lot of things in my home, so I researched many brands of smart devices. I did not want to have to install several apps for different manufacturers of smart devices, or be involved with different ecosystems, so I was looking for one brand to rule them all. Meross seems to fit the bill. They make the most smart devices from what I can tell, but more importantly quality devices that are easy to setup. They support all the big automated options: Alexa, Google and IFTTT. These smart plugs are no exception. All it takes is a few clicks in the app to connect to the device and add it to your network, once youve given your Wi-Fi credentials to the app. You give it a name, choose an icon for it and youre done. Once you have multiple devices in the app, you can put them in groups to control them together. Then you can create scenes where you can specify the state of any or all of the devices. You can also create schedules for the scenes to automate morning or night routines, or whatever you want. I can tell Google (nest mini) to turn off the living room lamps, or all the lights, and this works flawlessly. The plugs also work with Alexa and IFTTT, which is a custom interface in which you can create rules that connect to other services or apps for further automation. I have used these with the Meross app, google integration and IFTTT, all have worked as expected. They are on the large side, and will block other plugs on a power strip or surge protector if not generously spaced, and depending on how theyre oriented. That may just be the industry Norm size though. One thing I wish it had is a 5ghz wifi antenna. I was really trying to weed out 2.4ghz devices from my home, and had almost succeeded. But alas, it is a necessary evil. This also may be a design limitation, due to 5ghz requiring at least one extra antenna that would make the plug even bigger. I have found creative uses for these. My favorite so far is for my reciever. It has a feature where it stops responding to its remote app every once in awhile, with the solution being to disconnect and reconnect the power cable. The manufacturer considers this not an issue. Since the plug is behind a huge entertainment center, it was a real pain to do this every time. Now I can comfortably click it off with a button on my phone, or tell Google to turn the receiver off, and back on again. Which is pretty satisfying. These plugs are also very cost-effective. They cost less per plug than one of those timers you plug into an outlet. This easily replaces that device for less money and has infinitely more capability. Since purchasing these plugs Ive had no reliability issues with them, but one time the power went out for a few minutes and came back on. When the power restored, all the plugs continuously turned on and off until I pressed the power button on each to get them to stop, then restored the wifi so they were happy. This was a bit concerning to me as I watched my receiver power on and off about 10 times. Nothing came of it, but that is one issue I hope can be fixed through the app. If I had not been home Im not sure how long that would have gone on. Since purchasing these Ive aqcuired an outdoor rated 2 plug power strip, smart dimmer switch and smart garage door opener. Ive been happy with all of them. Im already planning on getting 3-way smart dimmer switches and more wall plugs. Meross seems like a very future proof choice and so far Im really happy with my Meross powered home.

As of 4-Dec-2019 (iOS 13.1.3), The Meross App will not let you setup devices using iOS 13 -- it says it can, it thinks it can, the app will give you some workarounds for iOS 13 - but trust me, it does NOT work. The developer must repair this issue and do some more testing with iOS 13, focused on setting up devices from new - thats all there is to it. Unless you have access to another (earlier iOS Phone or Android) do not buy! I easily setup all four of these using iOS 12, and it works perfectly - VERY fast, VERY easy in iOS 12. Once the Smart Plugs are added to your account, you may then control them using the app on an iOS 13 device without any trouble. The issue appears related to the app knowing you have connected to the temporary wifi network the Smart Outlet provides; there seems to be some new feature in iOS 13 that this app does not know how to deal with properly, so it keeps insisting you are not connected to the temp meross network, when you indeed are (and can even load the web page for the device - btw, the default credentials are admin / admin) In the help of the app, you are instructed if youre using iOS 13 to wipe out your network settings to make the setup work -- yep, didnt work - it just erases your wifi networks - which is quite frustrating. Oh, and dont go trying to install this app on an old iPad, they dont make an app that will install on an iPad, so, unless you have access to another iPhone or iPod Touch prior to iOS 13, or an Android device, you wont be able to setup these devices. Once you have everything setup (which if you have iOS 12 is a breeze) everything works wonderfully. The app is very easy to understand, its not overly complex - its ideal for something like a Christmas tree timer. You can easily create a schedule to turn the outlet on/off based on a time, or Sunrise/Sunset. Firmware updates are fast and painless. The app supports iOS shortcuts / widgets, which is nice. There does not appear to be any HomeKit support for this device - I dont really care, but some might. When it is confirmed the iOS 13 issue is addressed, I will revise my review, until then, this is a serious defect.

First off these are super simple to connect to your home WiFi through the Meross mobile app. I use ios, so cant speak to Android setup. I dont know if some of the software updates for the devices have caused them to be less efficient, but something has really began to impact them. I have a total of 20 of these plugs in my home. Added 8 of them when decorating for Christmas this year. The end result (even before I added the ones for Christmas) is that anytime one of the plugs has less than 85% signal strength to/from the WiFi router, they are very glitchy and most often dont respond to either pre-programed on/off settings (times), or when part of a Group, only part will activate. I have super strong in-home WiFi signal strength (internal router combined with an exterior & interior antenna), but they just are becoming more of a pain in the rear the longer I have them. I like to keep all my electronics of the same manufacturer so just one app to manage, etc, but Im falling less and less in love with these the longer I have them. Contemplating changing them all out to another brand, but what an expensive loss. Arg! Technology!
