Its the NFC Reader/Writer. There really is nothing much more to it than that.

Great item very easy to use straight out of the box just pop in the batteries which were included.

It took quite sometime to arrive due to the address not being written correctly, though the product itself works perfectly. I have no petpeeves, and it synched very well. It is perfect for amiibo training on the go.

Im so glad this gadget exists that I dont have to buy the upgraded 3DS. If you want to use amiibos for your 3DS xl now you can.

There were a lot of questions about compatibility I had to do a lot of googling about before pulling the trigger. If someone had taken the more common questions and added the answers to the description this would have been a no-brainer. If you plan on keep your older xDS hardware around and use amiibos then you need this. Luckily the NEW 3DSes and the soon to be released NEW 2DS have this function built in.

NFC for the 3DS readers are getting harder and harder to find for those that have the old 3DS. If you are considering getting this, I would go ahead and purchase it before the price goes up even further. I purchased mine used and it works perfectly.

Works just as intended. Came brand new and undamaged so also a plus. (Not that Ive ever had anything come in damaged before.) Using it for Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer, and New Leaf.
