Havent played Pokemon since Pokemon Platinum. Along with a lot of new Pokemon theyve got rid of a lot of annoyances. When you catch a Pokemon and have a full party, it will ask whether you want to replace a Pokemon in your party with it sending the other to the PC. The same with Pokemon and eggs that are given to you so you dont need an open spot in your party to receive an egg, they can be sent to the PC. In battles theres a button to use the last used item. Real nice not having to traverse the menus when trying to catch a legendary. Theres also sorting options for the items that I dont remember being able to do back in the day. Movement isnt grid based anymore. Its a bit more fluid and the character models have more human proportions. Still stylized of course but theyre not little sprites or chibi 3D models. Theyve removed the need for HM moves to get through levels. They now give you access to these on demand call whenever Pokemon that you can use in replacement for things like Surf, Fly, and Cut. The beginning has a lot of cutscenes. Theres a lot more cutscenes in this game compared to previous. The story is also quite a bit different than previous games. The evil team isnt as much of a focus. Theyre still there but not as prominent. Overall the quality of life improvements in this game makes it a much nicer experience. I cant wait to see what they can do with Pokemon on the Switch. When a Pokemon game comes out on that, with the added power, Im sure theyll be able to rid of more annoying kinks in the Pokemon formula.

Overall I like this version of Pokemon. Starter pokemon are cool, but dont pick the fire cat unless you want to destroy the game . . . or its your first play. Happily, you may have two games at once, so you can collect multiple pokemon to trade, and perhaps use a different starter. Also, fire cat evolves into a dark/fire/some sort of fighting pokemon that is not cute at all! I love cute pokemon (dont judge) and the water-seal actually ends up cute. I still love him, but wish he werent so creepy looking as a fully evolved! I recommend starting with the water pokemon, since its probably the toughest to start with (and I think most of us playing are a bit of old hats. I picked the fire pokemon for my first run through, so I could beat it quickly/check it out. I just used my fire pokemon . . . and pretty much beat the game with just him. He can be more than a bit op. Story line is different, and interesting, but not amazing. It just seems like a more advanced (graphic-wise) good pokemon. I love crystal/gold/silver/soulsilver/heartgold, so I really enjoyed this one. Its got a plot that in nearly on par with those (but not quite). I am not impressed by the pokebeans . . . or petting the pokemon. Its cool that there are more ways to make your pokemon happy/friendly, but it gets tedious fast, and can be pretty boring after a few times. Also . . . the fire cat starter has a fire belt as a fully evolved pokemon that burns you. He makes a weird face when it happens, too. . . not a huge fan. I do like that when my pokemon loves me it is less likely to faint. It makes me feel loved in return. Island evolutions/varieties are very cool/fun to collect--except for the bird that needs different nectar. I caught one and was unimpressed when there just kept being more and more forms that didnt fill my pokedex. Filling your pokedex is perhaps easier than ever, with the trading being so simple/kind of interactive? You can put up messages (appropriate) that others can read.

I have played every pokemon game at least in main series of these. This might be my favorite so far. Something about it was just great. They added more story than normal which at beginning was honestly a bit obnoxious because I wanted to fight people but in the end I enjoyed the game throughly and I am still playing to catch the cool new pokemon and train them up. Getting used to the totem battles over gyms was weird and kinda missed not having as many boss trainers but later on in game they actually give you quote a few tough opponents go against. Well tough as long as you didnt like special train your pokemon IV and EV wise lol. Oddly whole I loved this one my GF who does enjoy most of them told me she just couldnt get into this one and stopped playing hers after like first island. So I suppose it isnt for everyone.

This game does not utilize 3D capabilities. The overall quality feels a bit unfinished. The story gets an incredibly slow start. The Rotom Dex is more annoying than Clippy and Navi combined. Every other line of Team Skulls dialogue makes me cringe because their body language is like the choreography for a rap video on meth, and they stereotype gang culture with African American Vernacular English so it comes off as a bit racist even with white characters saying it. The gameplay has been changed a lot since the previous generation. Some of the essential basic features that have been there since gen 1 have been removed, so its hardly even Pokémon anymore. There are no gym battles. There arent even gyms. There are no HMs, and the replacement for them doesnt even make any sense. There are no bikes, probably because the writers decided everyone would be happy with riding a Pokémon. You can no longer transfer Pokémon up from previous generations, except Bank(a service you have pay for annually) will enable that starting next month, but Pokémon cant hold items when transferred through Bank, so I will lose all of my rare items that I worked hard to earn and find. Online gameplay is flooded with cheaters that Nintendo refuses to do anything about. Even well-known players in official tournaments are obviously cheating and harass anyone who mentions it. The only reason I havent sold the game is because I still do link battles with my partner.

The best pokemon game I have played in several years. I have been a fan for 15 years and with the change to 3D I have not had a good time with it. X and Y was not that fun, while omega ruby and alpha sapphire I found to be a poor remake of the original, but I found Both Sun and Moon to be a refreshing new take to pokemon. It has it`s changes true and It has a rather slow start which to a series veteran was very annoying, but in the end I think it was a new and great change addition to the series.

I pre-ordered this back in October - I was super stoaked when it arrived on release day. Ive been a super big pokemon fan since Red/Blue were released 20 years ago. I was a little apprehensive since Id heard Sun/Moon kinda deviated from the traditional pokemon game. ~Spoilers! Dont read this part if you dont want to know about storyline~ The biggest thing I didnt really care for was how guided the game is - there are a TON of cut scenes you cant skip through, and the beginning of the game really forces you along (blocked paths, required tasks before you can do anything else, etc.). This makes the game quite easy to progress through since there isnt really any way you can get lost. Sun/Moon dont have the traditional Gym Leaders/Battles - instead, you are a trial-goer and participate in little mini-tasks through your journey across Alola. Rather than Leaders, you are given trials by Island Captains, and eventually face the Island Kahuna as the Grand Trial on each island. I honestly found some of the trials to be rather silly - one is a find the difference sort of game, another is wandering around finding items in a jungle, etc. None are particularly difficult puzzles or anything. Grand Trials are battles, and those arent particularly difficult either (you get the Alpha Saphire/Omega Ruby style Exp. Share pretty early on, so your team is pretty OP. The main story line is pretty interesting - I enjoyed some of the unexpected twists. The after-story is also pretty good, and theres quite a bit to do after beating the pokemon league the first time around. There are no HMs in Sun/Moon - instead, you get to ride various pokemon around and can call them from anywhere. Pretty useful, and theres no need to keep an HM slave around to get through different dungeons. I liked Pokemon Refresh a lot - its really cute to be able to interact with your pokemon after a battle. Pokepelego is also pretty cool - the ability to farm berries so quickly/in one spot is insanely useful. Im not too thrilled with the Festival Plaza - it seems you need to be connecting with other trainers via NFC, etc to get the most out of this one. TL;DR - Fun pokemon game.

The game is overall fun. Graphics looks quite nice on my New 3ds XL. Its pretty easy to beat the game and level up Pokémon. Im a 90s kids so I remember having to train your Pokémon for long hours before hitting the gym leaders. With this game you receive exp share for your whole party. Meaning that leveling up Pokemon has been made easy and you can just keep using one Pokémon to do all your battles while the other Pokémon leech the exp. The game can be beaten in 1 or 2 days. Although it will take you a while to evolve and catch all the Pokemon in the game. Overall, I dont think itll take more than 1 week to beat the game and finish the pokedex.

The first mainline Pokemon game that feels like it really tries to mess with the formula since the FireRed/LeafGreen introduced the Sevii Islands. I also really appreciate how well the levels scale, making battles actually somewhat tense, especially from the Elite 4 onwards. It was quite a surprise when I became Champion and the story actually brought me to somebody who was about as difficult as the previous trainer. The Poke Pelago is a neat addition, as well, and participating in that both encouraged me to catch any Pokemon I saw and made maxing out affection significantly more streamlined.

PROS: At first, I really did not like the Alolan theme, thinking that it was cheesey, but I see it was made in good taste and actually appreciate the immersion the game makers have established. If youre a player that loves the fine details of the game, and recognizes the effort game developers put into making every aspect interesting, this is the right game for you. Its chock full of great fun minigames, pretty good customization, and a lot of quality of life improvements. I havent loved a Pokemon game this much since Pokemon Ruby-Sapphire! CONS: The only con is that a lot of the male character customization is limited and seem low effort, especially compared to that of the female characters! I wish the devs would focus more on male-player customization-- or at least provided a way to change player gender. Men like a diversified look and occasionally don long hair too, I promise.

Ive played pokemon games for almost 10 years now and I can safely say, this may be one of the weakest in the series. They focused way too much on story and wouldnt let go of your hand, basically played the game for you and didnt open many possibilities for exploration compared to previous titles. Story is kind of mediocre, I didnt pay too much attention later on because I just wasnt interested. Lots of filler in there to make the story last longer too. Its a great game for kids who are new to the series I suppose or new to the pokemon games in general but for someone whos played a lot of pokemon, its not like the games previously but it doesnt change my view. Nontheless, I dont hate it, I dont like it. Its average. You cant go wrong with it, youll enjoy playing it anyway.
