> 3 dayIm 24, and at the beginning there was a lot of hand-holding, which I hated. As the game progressed that went away, but be prepared for the first hour or two of game play to be clicking A. I got Sun for me and Moon for my boyfriend. We play together and it is a really fun game to enjoy with others. There are some Pokemon like Rockruff that evolve into something different depending on the game you have, so it is a good idea to plan out with a friend to each buy a different game so you can collect them all. Some additions to the game that I like: Easier maneuvering on the pokemon PC. You can now deposit, withdrawal, and move pokemon at the same time. The ability to ride different Pokemon. I also really like how it shows all the evolutions that you have, or dont have when you catch any Pokemon. Some additions I dont like: There is no 3D, which I think is ridiculous. I heard it was because they made it for other systems too, but I think that is unacceptable because I have a 3DS, so you better make it 3D capable. They also made it pretty immature and seemly for a very young audience, and at times things seem too easy, but luckily catching Pokemon seems to be more difficult as the game goes on. I am halfway through the game, but overall I love it, and would recommend it.

Greater than one weekIts been several generations of pokemon and 20 years later since the original gameboy games but the formula hasnt changed much. You still go catch monsters, train them up, then prove youre the best. This new iteration however is in my opinion the best installment yet. The layout is simple and informative, for both casual and hardcore gamers alike. There are tons of new pokemon, as well as old pokemon with new forms,. The quality of the game is great as usual. It even changes up the pacing of the game by replacing the usual gyms with trials. Theres plenty of new and exciting content, and its all using 3D models now. There are a few downsides, but not many. Cons - Super training (for training EVs) is gone - 3D feature is unavailable, even on the 3DS - The old online connectivity has been replaced with a really confusing and lackluster Festival Plaza. It works, but its harder to navigate and find friends.

Greater than one weekNot too much water eh IGN? Basically GameFreak took all of our hopes and dreams for Pokemon and put them into this game. It is the biggest leap in terms of quality between any generation of Pokemon. Weve gone to a more 3D view point with moving camera angles. We got rid of the gyms and put in trials instead (Thank goodness!), and we have a wonderful new setting. The new Pokemon are a lot of fun, plus we have all the familiar faces as well. The menus have been improved and streamlined - which is a HUGE plus. One could consider it a minor improvement yet it makes the usability and functionality so much easier, especially in battle. Also, having the weakness indicators when battling familiar Pokemon is fun too. Though I would have liked if this didnt come up until you captured the type you are fighting. In other words, not showing how your moves affect the opponent unless you have previous captured one of the same and entered it fully into the Pokedex. But small nitpick there. Its truly as near perfect as a Pokemon game can be and is what I consider one of the best games of 2016. I actually enjoy this more than FF15.

> 3 dayI was skeptical when I picked up this game. I am a veteran of all the Pokemon games, from Red and Blue onward. I was disappointed in the direction that X and Y took the franchise, but GameFreak has gotten back onto the right path with this game. First: the gameplay changes. The gym challenge has been tossed and replaced with an island challenge, which combines traditional Pokemon battles with new mechanics that make each Island Trial unique. I wont spoil them here, but they were a breath of fresh air. Battles look great, the new battle screen has been redesigned for the better, and the movement is fluid. Second: the graphics. This game looks amazing. It as good as any 3DS game I have ever seen, and better in many ways. The animations are beautiful, the islands are gorgeous, and the new Pokemon look awesome. Third: the quality-of-life improvements. The PC in the Pokemon Center is easier than ever to use, the battle screen (as mentioned above) is the best its ever been, the backpack is better, HMs have been replaced with a new Poke-Ride feature that does the same thing but doesnt take up your moveslots, and there are a lot more variety of Pokemon early on than I am used to. Seriously, you can find over half of the Pokemon types by the end of the second route! Fourth: the story. This story is possibly (and probably) the best story of any Pokemon game to date. Its interesting, it flows well, it evokes emotional reactions in you, and it has several great surprises. Things I didnt like: The beginning tutorial takes a couple of hours to get through. As someone who has played these games for a long time, I felt like my hand was being held far too often at the beginning. And the number of cutscenes in the beginning of the game is ridiculous. It gets much better after that, but still, the first couple hours are a slog. Also, this game does not run great on the older 3DS models. It suffers from semi-frequent slowdowns in-battle. Even on the New 3DS models, there are occasional slowdowns in battles. Also, a lot of the new Pokemon in the game are slower than I am used to, which makes battles against old Pokemon a little frustrating. Overall, this is a worthy game to pick up. I had to knock off a star due to the game having some issues on older 3DS systems and the length of the beginning tutorial/cutscene spamfest. But other than that, it is an amazing game that I highly recommend to both fans of the series and anyone who wants to try out their first Pokemon game. It will not disappoint.

Greater than one weekHaving played through the Pokemon series, flaws and all, I can say the added features here make this one of the best Pokemon Ive ever played. While the story mostly follows the traditional formula (Collect, Train, Unlock New Areas, Beat the Bad Team, and become the Champion), it does it in a way that finally makes the game feel like its not working against you. Probably the best feature added to this game (and possibly the best addition to the entire series) is the removal of HMs. Instead of having to find the one or two HMs that can be viable on an actual member of your team and having to load as many as possible onto an HM slave (Thank you for your years of service Golduck!), you are now given what becomes effectively a summon ability. At certain progress points through the game, you get access to different Pokemon that function as ridable HMs. A Charizard will help you fly. A Tauros will smash rocks in your path and allow you to dramatically improve your run speed (very helpful with egg hatching). It means your team can be 6 Pokemon that you choose, not 5 plus one just for HMs. The key drawback I found for this game was the hard push to expand the Poison type. While it is nice to see some old faces rejuvenated (looking at you Muk), the sheer number of additional Poison types makes this game feel like youre exploring the poison islands. While I realize this is likely a response to help tone down the power of the Fairy type, which was a response to tone down the Dragon type, it feels a bit heavy handed. Granted, Poison types have been underrepresented for most of the history of Pokemon, but I think they could have been a bit more creative in their execution. Other than that complaint, I think the overall execution of the game was fantastic, as were some of the new additions to the roster. One other nitpick is that there is no National Dex, even after completing the game. Not the biggest deal, but a good FYI. You can see many other reviews that can tell you about the different areas and features, so by all means check those if you;re curious. What it boils down to is if youre remotely interested in Pokemon, you should play this game!

> 3 dayThis is quite possibly the best game to come out of the series since some of the originals. The story has some stumbles but overall has some rather interesting twists. The difficulty of the old games, while not back, is certainly looking to make a comeback as this is the most difficulty Ive had since my original Gold playthrough and Whitneys infamous Miltank. The PokePelago and removal of HM for Ride Pokemon are certainly welcome additions to the series and serve as a nice point to aid new players while giving veterans something to come back for (pelago) and fixing an issue many have had for years (Ride). Overall the game is technically well made, with only VERY obvious slowdown when in double or Totem battles due to the sprites on screen (though Ive heard this is better, but not gone, with the NEW 3DS models I cant confirm as I only own a regular XL). I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get into the games or a veteran looking to come back, I certainly enjoyed the 33 hours I put in just beating the storyline.

Greater than one weekNow I really wanted to give this game the full five stars, but I had some issues with it. First off, the package arrived neat and clean. Shipping was quick, game arrived new. It plays fine, it does everything you want it to. Now the reason I couldnt give it a full five stars. My first Pokemon game was Pokemon Blue back on my gameboy color. I know as the series gets older, they change things to keep it fresh. The last ones I played were Ruby and Black 2. I take a break every few years and then try the latest version. My issue with these new games, and perhaps they had this in X and Y, as I never touched those. It feels as if the game holds your hand way too much. The older games would just give you the starter you pick, and off you go. 3 Hours in and after I completed the first trial, I feel as if Im still in a tutorial and the game keeps telling me exactly where to go. I feel that the exploration has died down and the game has become more linear than it used to be. Im still having fun with it, I just feel like I need to have the training wheels taken off. If this is your first Pokemon game, I recommend it. If this isnt, Id still recommend it, just knowing you will feel as if youre in a tutorial for a few hours.

> 3 dayI have not been a fan of any of the Pokémon games that came out after platinum but this one is really great. THE GOOD: The whole world is in a 3D view instead of a top down or mixed viewpoint. I think they did a really good job of implementing it because I hated it in xy. One of the things I hated about xy was all the new stupid Pokémon and the abscense of the original 150. However in this game the original Pokémon are abundant and I think they did a great job refreshing some of them with the aloa special looks. Having to complete challenges instead of gym matches is a refreshing mix up, and still decently challenging I never liked mega evolution. It just felt forced, and a little over powered. It really takes no place in this game and instead you get to use z powers which are a once per battle powerful attack of one specific type. I think this was a nice addition to the game, but still a little over powered THE BAD: I am playing on a new 3ds xl and have not had any issues but some of my friends with a regular 3ds xl have said that the game lags a bit in some of the bigger battles. Team skull is pretty cringey in the way they talk and try to act gangster. They dont really feel evil to me and just seem like a minor nuisance There are four islands and the entire first island is really just a giant tutorial All of the avatars are super feminine. As a guy I would prefer if I could make a guy that looked at least somewhat like a guy You dont really have a rival, your opponent chooses the starter weak to yours and is never really any trouble to defeat

15-11-2024PROS: At first, I really did not like the Alolan theme, thinking that it was cheesey, but I see it was made in good taste and actually appreciate the immersion the game makers have established. If youre a player that loves the fine details of the game, and recognizes the effort game developers put into making every aspect interesting, this is the right game for you. Its chock full of great fun minigames, pretty good customization, and a lot of quality of life improvements. I havent loved a Pokemon game this much since Pokemon Ruby-Sapphire! CONS: The only con is that a lot of the male character customization is limited and seem low effort, especially compared to that of the female characters! I wish the devs would focus more on male-player customization-- or at least provided a way to change player gender. Men like a diversified look and occasionally don long hair too, I promise.
