Punched through my thick leather belt with ease. Had no problem holding it, I wear size medium gloves if that helps. Gets a 4 star because the brass backing does get indented fairly easy, like deep indents after 2 uses. Not a problem for once in while use though and comes with replacement brass pads

I have not had the opportunity to try out brass inserts and plyers.

This product is absolutely amazing! So far Ive used it on a strap made of several layers of fabric and heavy interfacing I am so glad I chose this particular product over others
