The product page and images haven’t been updated yet, but this is the new v2 version of the 2.4Ghz Genesis controller. This is indicated on the box and the Genesis and USB receivers having “V2” printed on them. The one I received has one or two very small scratches if the light hits it in the right way, but no big deal. I have an older Bluetooth model of the same controller so I’ll compare it to that. I assume the 2.4Ghz v1 is identical to the Bluetooth model, which is out of production. In the image, the Bluetooth is on the left and the 2.4Ghz v2 is on the right. The v2 has darker plastics with a more pronounced texture, so it’s more reflective in the light. This is how I noticed the tiny scratches. The L and R buttons have a shallower click to them than the older one. They don’t feel all that different but there is visibly less travel. The main 6 buttons have deeper engravings so they’re easier to read, but otherwise look and feel identical. The home and select buttons are gray and engraved now rather than black with printed icons. The d-pad is identical. It still has Micro USB rather than picking up USB-C from the Big6. In short, it’s just a slightly updated version of the v1. As I understand it, there may be more macros currently supported than the v1, though Retro-Bit plans to bring parity to the v1s. The only debatable downgrade is the shallower L and R buttons but since those weren’t on original Genesis controllers, I doubt many will care one way or another.

I ordered this controller for my Genesis mainly because I wanted a more modern wireless solution. This controller does not disappoint. It comes with a nice case, a charging cable (micro-usb, why not usb-C?), and transmitters for both USB and for the Genesis 9-pin. So not only can I use it on the Genesis, but I can also use it on my PC. I also really like the way this controller feels in my hands, especially compared to the bulky three-button original Genesis controller. This one just fits nicely in my hands.

I dont recommend this if youre buying it for use with the Switch like I did. I have the Sega Classics collection and it is pretty useless for those games. There is no in-game button mapping option and you cant map this controller through the Switch settings either. This means your stuck with the crappy layout for that collection. There are other Sega Ages games I wanted to buy but it appears I wont be able to properly map those either. The C and Z buttons are mapped to ZL and RL which makes the standard Sega 6 button layout impossible through the in-game mapping . Whats the point of using this if I cant set it up like the original Sega 6 button controller? I was going to still give it 3 stars but theres a couple other annoying issues. I turned off my Switch (not sleep mode but completely off) and the USB receiver LED kept flashing. This was 45 minutes after I turned it off. Thats just stupid. I hope Im missing something here? Did I do something wrong or does this thing just keep searching until its unplugged? Also the location of the pairing button. Really brilliant idea to locate that in a spot where the switch is blocking access to it. This controller could have been perfect. Such a shame.

I purchased this wireless controller recently to use with my PC and I was hoping it would also work with my Atari. Great news! It works. So lets start with the good things: The look and the packaging are both outstanding. It comes with a nice case that holds the controller, the 2 dongles, USB cord and manual. It works with a wide variety of systems, including the Atari 2600 and 7800 (one-button only). I have yet to test on my Atari computer and original Genesis, but those should work fine with it too. Now for some not-so-good things: the controller is very light, which seems a bit odd. I never had this particular model of wired Genesis controller, so I cant really compare it though. Actually the only Genesis controller I have is a wired Hyperkin 6-button which is bigger and seems heavier. They could have put some weights in it. Just sayin. But the worst thing about this controller has to do with pairing. It should be automatic, and many times it is not. The controller and receiver lose their connection somewhat quickly when power is shut off to the system, then they need to be paired again by holding down buttons on both the dongle and controller. This is not so much of an issue on the PC, where you can switch games and emulators quickly without ever shuttling down the system, but with a console, you typically have to. I found that on the Atari 2600, if you swap out cartridges quickly (within 10 seconds or so) it will usually automatically re-pair itself. It didnt always do that on the Atari 7800 however and I had to fight with the pairing buttons again. Also, with emulators on the PC, you will have to go into the settings and manually configure some of them (for example, in Stella, you will have to set the inputs to move up or down manually). Anyway, for $35, I was expecting a little better. For a comparison, the Blue Lake wireless PS2 controllers, while not Genesis compatible, are half the price, work great with PCs, and always pair automatically.

This is great for the genesis mini console. The wireless works well, no noticeable input lag and the controller feels good. That being said, the dongles for the actual Genesis console seem to be poorly designed in that you cant plug them both in without some angled USB adapter because the space between the two isnt wide enough to plug in a regular micro USB to provide it power.

This looks and feels like the original, but has the advantage of wireless. The packaging was very nice too. We will be buying more.

I recently acquired a highly customized Stainless Steel Cased Neo Geo MVS console. It has controller ports for the original Neo Geo, Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis and PlayStation 2. I cant find any Neo Geo wireless controllers and highly doubt they ever existed. I had used wireless PlayStation 2 controllers several years ago but all that I could find available now run on two AAA batteries. I wanted a solution that would work with my port options and be rechargeable. This gave me the choice of the Retro-Bit Sega Genesis (this model) or the Retro-Bit Sega Saturn wireless controllers. Both models are available with or without the extra USB dongle. I decided to buy the model with the extra USB dongle. My reasoning for buying the dual purpose model was I had a lot of doubt this would work on my Neo Geo console. If it didnt work, I could at least use it with a PC. Now that I know it works perfectly, I will probably give the Retro-Bit Sega Saturn model a try. Im glad I took a chance because now I can play my Neo Geo console with a wireless controller. The button layout isnt exactly where I would put them but very close. The Start button is still the Start button and the Select button adds coins to continue. Pressing Start and Select at the same time gets me into my BIOS to make changes there if I want. The same BIOS menu can act as Pause. All things considered, I think its about as perfect a solution as I could hope for. I dont own a Sega Genesis but I did use it a bit on PC running retro games with emulators and I find it great for that purpose as well. I have no doubts it would work on an original Sega Genesis and it does make a decent PC controller for emulators. If you need a controller for either, this is a good choice.

I was really impressed with this controller. Feels well made and not cheap like some other controllers I have gotten. Comes with a very nice storage case.

There are plenty of reviews out there. I plugged into my original Sega Genesis model 2 and it worked like a charm, plugged the other into a sega genesis mini and it worked great. You have to sync it every-time you change consoles. Works great! better than dealing with all the wires of the standard controllers.

The controller is comfortable to hold, easy to get working and synced with included receiver, and completely removes the hassle of ever having to plug and unplug cords ever again. At this point having wireless controls for all retro consoles is a must and these fit that bill well for the sega genesis. The SEGA branding on the controllers themselves pushes these over the edge since similar wireless options do not have that. It makes them look stock like the video game console from the 90s would have had these as an option even back then. A must by for anyone still playing SEGA consoles in 2021. Only drawback is they charge with micro usb instead of usb C.
