I use this is in my freshwater tank because I have driftwood in it and dont like the color of the water with the tannins. Within 24 hours it made my water look amazing, bright and WHITE if that makes sense. I did try to recharge the Purigen but could never get it back to the colorless stage like it was when it was brand new. I followed all of the directions to a tee. I put it back in my tank and over the course of the next five days I had 5 fish die :( I wont blame it on the Purigen because I did add two new fish around the same time so its possible one of them introduced something nefarious into my tank - however, I wont take a chance with recharging it again I will just use a new packet of Purigen. I have already ordered more and will continue to use because it is slightly costly but it makes a world of difference in the beauty of my aquarium which makes it worth it to me.

Ive used this product for over a year and couldnt be more satisfied with how my water looks in both my aquariums. I struggled with water clarity due to bacterial blooms for no reason. I havent had that issue since.

I had purchased a small piece of mopani driftwood for my 12 gallon Fluval Edge aquarium in my office at work. The driftwood quickly stained the water and made it tea colored. I did a 50% water change and placed the Purigen pack in my aquarium in front of the filter water return (I rigged the purigen pouch up with zip ties because this was too large to fit in my filter). I did this on a Sunday and the remaining water was still a tad murkey and yellow. I returned on Monday morning to sparkling crystal clear water - will be buying a second to use when regenerating the first pouch!

This worked amazing in my 125 gallon tank clearing up the water from the tannins from a piece of driftwood. But I also tried it in a 5 gallon Betta tank I have and it doesnt do anything. Im not sure what the reason is why it works in one but not the other but the 125 gallon looks a lot better with the purigen in it.

Ok, so I know there are people who are big supporters of this product and they will not appreciate any negative reviews of it. (I used to be one of them). But I have to give an honest review so please hear me out. Two of my tanks crashed after using regenerated Seachem. I am not saying this product itself caused it - I believe the use of BLEACH in the process of regeneration caused it. I followed the directions to use bleach to regenerate. I even doubled the Prime to neutralize the bleach after regenerating. Everything was going fine (my tanks had been cycled for years) then one day my tanks crashed. The only change was that I had started using regenerated Purigen. Ammonia and nitrites were reading at the highest level on the chart. The beneficial bacteria was gone. Some of my fish died, some got ich and some got fin rot. So Im just saying be careful using BLEACH on anything you plan on putting in your aquarium if your aquarium is cycled. It has taken me a month to get the ammonia and nitrites back to zero. I treated the ich using medicines and am still giving some fish antibiotics to treat the severe fin rot. For me any benefits do not outweigh the risks and I am not using Purigen again. I will keep my tanks cycled to control ammonia and use floss to keep the water polished. If you are going to use this, be very careful using the regeneration process. Using strips to test for chlorine on the purigen before putting it in the filter would be a good idea. Or use the product once then toss it. I am just sharing my experience. UPdate 1-1-14: My tanks have been stable, everything within parameters, since I quit using this product. No crashes, no ammonia or nitrite spikes.

Weve been struggling with fish surviving. They just kinda make it day to day. Not really active like they should be. I bought a water test kit on a whim and found our nitrate level was CRAZY high. Ordered this. Within 24 hours the water was completely different and the fish were more active! After another 24 hours, again seeing improvement in the fish. And I love the fact its rechargeable!

still using carbon? STOP THAT RIGHT NOW! BUY THIS MAGICAL S*** IN A BOTTLE THIS INSTANT! seachem purigen is by far the BEST filter media out there today and will last much longer and is WAYYYYYY BETTER than that crappy old carbon that goes bad after a month. this is for fresh or salt water use and is the best stuff on the market today! correct me if im wrong but i do believe purigen lasts about 3 months until it needs to be changed again. but you should really clean your pump/pumps every month to maintain a helthy enviroment for your fish and to keep nitrates and nitrites/ammonia levels down!!! hope this review helps some one out there on making there aquarium better and healthyer! peacee! :)

Like many people, I was confused when I received this product because it was very different to what I usually purchase in the store. The mesh bag was longer and and the package it came in was a lot larger. After seeing many 1-2 star reviews claiming the product was counterfeit, I decided to reach out directly to Seachem. Heres what they said: We did briefly try out a a new bagging method for the Purigen packs. However, we have since gone back to the older version. It is not counterfeit! Simply a change from Seachem. Since it is online however, there is no telling whether you will receive the original size or this trial change. For people who expect specific dimensions this could be inconvenient. To sum up, I managed to accommodate for the different sized bag, and needless to say it is working just as spectacularly as I remember Purity working.

Had to throw 2 bags away after 3 uses because bags started leaking media all over tank. Received a 100ml bag today that I had ordered and noticed there was loose media in package. I rinsed bag and since I could not locate any tears or holes placed it in HOB filter where it proceeded to empty contents into my shrimp tank! They say 3rd time is the charm and this will be the last purigen filter resin I will ever buy until I am assured that they have corrected their faulty packaging process! Copied Seachem with this review and did receive replacement bags from their offices so raised 2 stars for their response! Used 1 bag and had a considerable amount wash out when rinsing so not completely sure problem is fixed, but will watch and update as I really like the product in my shrimp tanks!
