Best product for your fresh water aquarium. Been using it for years in my canister filter and am very happy.

Keeps the water clean and clear. It comes in its own filter bag, which is good because the filter bags you can buy have holes way to big for this stuff. A note on recharging: for some reason after recharging it can smell rotten. Not sure why. I have 2 packs of it so I could switch back and forth. I left one sitting in the water (with dechlorinator) much longer than I was supposed to and it actually made the room smell like there was a dead animal in it. If you arent going to use it, put it in a zip lock back with a little bit of water. The first one I recharged, I put in my fish cabinet for storage and when I took it out, it looked like most of the purigen was gone. I kept looking for holes in the bag but there werent any. Apparently the purigen drys out and once it comes into contact with water it expands. A day after being in the tank and it was back to normal.

I placed this item in my aquarium for 3 months now and let me just say I am very satisfied with its performance. When I have visitors, they mention how lovely my tank pets are and how clear my water is (They look like they are floating in air - is a common phrase they say). I know I can depend on this product to make balancing an aquarium a lot easier and any hobbyist can tell you, finding that right formula is no easy task...especially when you are starting out. I will always have this product in my tanks, many thanks to Seachem for making this awesome product!! P.S. I hope they eventually make an even smaller bag for placing inside internal nano filters, it would be great :) Or, if there is someone out here that can recommend a bag I can use that is slender and short, feel free to comment which product I can get to buy the Purigen in loose form. Thanks!

I have a 20gal heavily planted tank, like others, I have driftwood that has left my water red due to tannins. I have been doing water changes religiously and its helping out with rather slow results, after reading how magical this stuff is I bought a 100ml net. Ive had it in for about 12 hours now and already see a nice difference. *I have a question though to anyone that may know, I see a lot of reviews stating to recharge it after the little filtration beads turn dark, due to my tannins the beads were starting to darken within the first 4 hours, now they are definitely not white, which is a clear sign its working...anyhow, to anyone with tannins, did you have to recharge it sooner than the directions state or just let it go even with the darkened beads? Please advise if you know. Thanks! Nate

Had to throw 2 bags away after 3 uses because bags started leaking media all over tank. Received a 100ml bag today that I had ordered and noticed there was loose media in package. I rinsed bag and since I could not locate any tears or holes placed it in HOB filter where it proceeded to empty contents into my shrimp tank! They say 3rd time is the charm and this will be the last purigen filter resin I will ever buy until I am assured that they have corrected their faulty packaging process! Copied Seachem with this review and did receive replacement bags from their offices so raised 2 stars for their response! Used 1 bag and had a considerable amount wash out when rinsing so not completely sure problem is fixed, but will watch and update as I really like the product in my shrimp tanks!

I have bought this stuff for years to clear aquariums after using meds in them. I used to buy the prefilled packet and stuff it in the filter, and save for a couple that leaked from a hole in the perimeter seal of the bag, they always worked. I have bought two locally and one on Amazon. They all leak. I placed them inside a 180 micron bag--they leaked through their original package and through the 180 micron bag. After rinsing the purigen for 2 minutes before placing it in my tank, it leaked about two teaspoons. It does not stop-if I run it through a filter, it will be empty in a few hours, unless some of it is the correct size. It never used to be too small, the extra bag I use was just for protection after I had two break. very disappointing. Sick of going to fish stores. Any chance the stuff in the jug wont be so degraded? Its every bag. Id rather my fish didnt eat it.

Definitely cleared up the tank but I discovered a .5 break in the bag along the seam when I removed it for its first recharge. Would explain why I had a fair amount of the media get away when I rinsed it and then media getting in the tank when I installed it. Recharging, while not difficult, literally takes days so youll probably need multiple bags and store them damp after they have been used. Allowing them to dry out after first use causes issues with the media.

Ive been battling high nitrates in my tank for months now. Despite highly reduced feedings and water changes my levels were routinely over 50ppm, sometimes being over 180ppm. I added one bag of this to my 40g breeder tank and it has been amazing!! It DOES NOT remove existing nitrates, nitrites, or ammonia from your tank, but it does an excellent job of keeping your levels from getting any higher. Ive had mine in the tank for a little over 2 months now and its kept my nitrates at 20ppm once I did a 60% water change. It has almost completely darkened though and I will be replacing it within the next month. I do not have experience recharging it but I would much rather just replace it than risk harming my fish from doing the recharge incorrectly. There have been no problems with my fish (guppies, platies, loaches) or my plants. This product will not mess with added fertilizers but it will absorb any medications, algaecides, and snail-killing additives. Every aquarist needs to at least try this!

Those stubborn nitrates were rising and I tried so many things. I didnt know about cycling my tank and my turtles were suffering in the waiting process. This stuff is amazing. The nitrate level went down almost completely in two days and still lowering. I cant recommend this enough for turtle keepers.

I have purigen in every single one of my change. I have 18 tanks at the moment and all of them are using purigen. For me it is a must-have. It makes my water 100% clear. You can also recharge the product so it is like new and I do it all the time.
