> 3 dayThose stubborn nitrates were rising and I tried so many things. I didnt know about cycling my tank and my turtles were suffering in the waiting process. This stuff is amazing. The nitrate level went down almost completely in two days and still lowering. I cant recommend this enough for turtle keepers.

11-06-2025I bought this purely to remove the tannins in my tank water that the driftwood secretes (and that causes my water to look like tea). it comes in a 100mL bag for is good for 100gal tank I believe it says. my tank isnt not even half that size (plus the bag it came in wouldnt fit right in my filter) so I cut open the packet (which you can put in your filter as is if itll fit) and put half of it in a ladys knee-high, cut off the excess and plopped it into my filter. I saved the other half so that I can switch it out when I need to regenerate the one in current use. this is the first time my water has been clear/clear of tannins for months (and by months I mean literally like 7 months). great product. id buy this again!

> 3 dayIve been using Purigen for nearly 5 years now, I use it in ALL my tanks. Ok, this is what it does: Purigen absorbs the dissolved organic material in your aquarium-BEFORE it breaks down to ammonia, nirite and nitrate. Why is that beneficial? Well if you use the right filter (which I tend to believe the negatives for this product is because they are using the wrong type of filter), Purigen will take ALL of your ammonia, nirtite, and nitrate levels down to zero. Of course if you use larger tanks like I do- then you must add a little more etc. What happens is that you circumvent the whole nitrogen cycle. Some purists will say that isnt the right way to setup your aquarium, but hey Ive lost $$$ on fish due to- too many nitrates or ammonia level too high etc. Your aquarium will still go through a cycle- but a very short one 3 to 4 days as opposed to 3 to 4 weeks the regular way. It may not work as well in a hang on the back filter- but if you have a canister filter you will notice a HUGE difference. Since it absorbs everything- there arent many nitrates left in your tank to grow algae. So if you have a pleco it will starve- unless you feed it pellet food of some sort. I dont have any plecos and my tanks all look crystal clear -like my fish are floating in mid air! Oh, and by the way I NEVER have to test my water for PH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. Yes its a little pricey, but if you dont like replacing fish, endlessly testing your water parameters, and buying charcoal (who needs it with purigen!)- then this is the BEST thing you could ever buy for your aquarium.

> 3 dayThis product works perfectly my Seachem Tidal filter keeping the water crystal clear. It can be recharged over and over by first soaking in bleach/water, then using Prime to deactivate the bleach (instructions on you tube). So purchase 2, use one in the filter, while you are recharging the other.

> 3 dayI have purchased this product before, so I know it is supposed to be dry and white when opened. The item I received was wet, beige and smelled like bleach. The item is also larger in size than the one I purchased at the LPS. Finally, the package looks like it may have been opened and resealed at the bottom. There are many reviews from customers who also received a used and/or possibly counterfeit product. I will only purchase these from my LPS going forward.

> 3 dayAdded this to a mesh bag to fill out the last fluval basket in my filter. Made the water so clear I was actually surprised. The fact you can reuse it makes it a great value. I added this to the filter setup about a month after adding seachem matrix to help fight my nitrate problem. No complaints so far, happy with seachem products and this is highly recomended.

> 3 dayThe color is yellowish and granules coming out off the mesh bag unlike the other purigen I’ve used in the past. I’ll give this one a try maybe it’ll clear out tanning in my tank. This better not be a fake or I’ll be piss. Wish me luck. Minus one star due to yellowish granules

Greater than one weekIf you want clear, clean water in your tank, buy this. Ive been using Purigen since I started my planted tank. It keeps the water crystal clear and keeps all my water values in the sweet spot. I dont use carbon in my tank. This does what carbon does for water clarity, but better. It will not neutralize certain chemicals or remove medications from your tank, so carbon still has its place in some situations. You can regenerate these by soaking in bleach and then using Prime to neutralize. It takes 48 hours for the process, but you can reuse it over and over - something like 6 times or more. The process isnt too bad. But Ive decided to bite the bullet and buy a reusable bag (The Bag) and a large supply of Purigen. For the time and effort to regenerate, Ill just replace my purigen after a few months of use. If you want a quick and easy solution to water clarity issues, this is it. Plop it into your filter (or somewhere where it will be in the water circulation) and let it do its thing. You will see clearer water in just a few hours and in 24 hours, your water will be crystal clear.

> 3 dayUse this in my aquarium. It has made the water crystal clear. Buy two, so when one is exhausted, you have one to put in the aquarium while you recharge the first.
