Greater than one weekLove the fact this is rechargeable. Ive had no issues with that. This stuff works fast. I put a whole packet in with my fire mouths and they didnt like the change. I would recommend doing the math per gallon and buying a filter sock.

> 3 daySeachem Purigen is a good product if you have ammonia, nitrite, nitrate problems. I have a dwarf shrimp farming business and I use this in two of my tanks because shrimp are more sensitive to water quality than fish. I definitely keep the nitrogenous compounds at nearly 0 in the water with this product. As far as the claims for this product go, I have to say they are accurate. Using this in an eheim classic I have 0/0/0 of the nitrogenous compounds. So why did I give this four stars? Well, I have no proof of this but it seems as if purigen does take a small amount of nutrients out of the water as well. My evidence is that the tanks I use this in, the shrimp do not seem to reproduce and thrive as well as the tanks I do not use this in (shrimp use nutrients in the water column). I would definitely recommend this product to fish keepers and anyone that has problems with nitrogenous compounds, but for shrimp keepers I would recommend using an additional nutrient source when using purigen.

> 3 dayThis is amazing. I completely removed my other filter media because its reducing ammonia so well. I have a new 2.5 gallon tank and have been struggling with ammonia levels for a month. this fixed the problem in a day. I even had some new snails die and I didnt notice for a few days (thought they were just unusually shy) and the ammonia levels stayed within the safe range. Again, the day after I removed the dead snails, ammonia levels dropped to near zero. I have not tried recharging it with bleach yet; I havent had it long enough. Note: some customers have mentioned that particles from the pouch escaped into the tank. I was wary of this so I put the purigen bag inside another filter media bag I bought from the local pet store for under $1. There are no loose purigen particles in my tank.

08-06-2025I placed this item in my aquarium for 3 months now and let me just say I am very satisfied with its performance. When I have visitors, they mention how lovely my tank pets are and how clear my water is (They look like they are floating in air - is a common phrase they say). I know I can depend on this product to make balancing an aquarium a lot easier and any hobbyist can tell you, finding that right formula is no easy task...especially when you are starting out. I will always have this product in my tanks, many thanks to Seachem for making this awesome product!! P.S. I hope they eventually make an even smaller bag for placing inside internal nano filters, it would be great :) Or, if there is someone out here that can recommend a bag I can use that is slender and short, feel free to comment which product I can get to buy the Purigen in loose form. Thanks!

> 3 dayI purchased this package of Purigen to rid my 20 long aquarium of the brown tint that was left from the driftwood that I had added. It took about 4 days, but after that the water was pretty close to fully clear. Now a couple weeks later the water is tinting again. If I understand correctly, this product will pull the tannins from the water column, but not the wood itself. The Purigen will become exhausted (which mine probably has), but can be refreshed by bleaching and dechlorinating. Frequent water changes help the Purigen not to get overloaded too quickly. The wood will continue to give off the tannins until they have been expended from it. Who knows how long that will take. I will bleach and dechlorinate the pouch of Purigen once it gets too brown and use it over-and-over until the wood gives up the ghost. Great product. This 100ml size comes with its own pouch, which I understand the larger sizes dont.

Greater than one weekPhenomenal Product! I am using this in an AquaClear 20. I have been running fresh and salt water tanks for years and over the last 6 months set up a 20 gallon long tank to breed guppies in. The tank has been fantastic, but the color of the water was brown. I added 3 piece of Mopani wood to the tank and I boiled and dumped the water for weeks, for more than 6-8 hours a day, over and over and over. And even after all that, I still was getting dark water. It took away the ability to see my fishes true colors, and also my plants lower leaves were suffering (I think from lack of light). I hesitantly bought Purigen and WOW, Within 8 hours of swapping out the active carbon with the Purigen I saw a crazy difference. I have run it for 3 days and took a picture of before and after. It is unbelievably clean of Tannins. I am a huge fan, and didnt run into the issue with the seams being poorly sealed. I have posted 2 pictures, one before the installation, and one that was 3 days after. I would say within 8-12 hours you saw a huge change! UPDATE: I have had the same Purigen for a bit over a year and it still works like a charm. Keeps recharging about every 4-8 weeks depending on fish load. UPDATE 2: I made a mistake and forgot I had the Purgien regenerating and sitting in the bleach for an extra 3 days. When I went to clean it out, 75% of the Purigen was no longer there. It appears that over soaking the Purigen in bleach actually liquifies the beads.

> 3 dayWorks as advertised: pulls tannins out of the water quickly, as well as waste, medications, and some fine particles, and doesnt seem to affect my plant fertilizers at all. It can also be reused multiple times without the effect being reduced. Ive used this in my 20 gallon community tank for about two months without issue, and just bought another for my shrimp tank. Took a star off since this second order arrived with some of the beads escaping from it, through a small hole in the bag, but I fixed it by placing the purigen inside of another filter bag.

> 3 dayExcellent; highly recommended!! I’m running a 75 gal high tech freshwater planted aquarium, with a 20 gal mechanical/bio sump. I run the Purigen and some (polishing) filter floss in an old cascade 700 canister filter that recirculates the sump water. Seachem says 500 ml is good for a couple hundred gal aquarium, so needless to say it took less than an hour to completely clear-up the water. I’m also running a 36 watt UV sterilizer in-line with the return. I’ll see how long I can go between water changes and report back.
