Greater than one weekI got this to remove the tannins from our aquarium after adding a large piece of driftwood. In just a matter of a couple days it has significantly reduced the tea color of the water and it’s on its way back to being clear.

> 3 dayNeeds a 180 micron bag. Easy to use, cleaned up tanins well and water is clear! Happy with it so far. Have not gotten to the point of regeneration with bleach yet, hopefully that goes well.

Greater than one weekIm cycling a tank with a lot of Driftwood in it and the first bag that I put in already turned half Brown, and the water isnt dark anymore. I bought two bags to put in my 29 gallon tank, which is obviously Overkill, but the product is working fantastic even before I put the second bag in

> 3 dayBefore I had even used the bag, a friend had an uncycled new tank disaster happening, with live fish, sky high ammonia and nitrites, and murky green water to boot. I gave her the Purigen and the next day she says its like a miracle. The water is clear and the fish are doing great. Now she thinks Im some kind of expert, lol. I tried to explain the cycle is not yet complete, but not sure it sunk in. The fish are safe and the kids are happy, so who am I to argue.

Greater than one week100 times better than carbon alone for crystal clear set up. Any application. I use on tanks and my pond.

> 3 dayThe seams were frayed and some of the media was lost. I stitched up the filter bag by hand and put it in the aquarium. My clean water had turned brown. I thought this filter would work to clear it. I needed it immediately so I didn’t return it. So far it has not cleared my aquarium. The canister filter and aquarium had clean water. I don’t know how to clear it. Anyway I will buy another to see if two work.

> 3 dayWe have a piece of drift wood in our tank for our freshwater fish and shrimp to hide and sleep in. The color from the wood can turn the water brownish but this seachem filters and clears the water right up. Keeps the fish and owner happy!

> 3 dayUsed according to directions, Purigen is a SILVER BULLET for tannin-stained water. And you know that if it can strain out something as fine as tannin, its pulling out all kinds of other nastys too. And the fact that you can sterilize and re-charge it is just the icing on the cake. Purigen is a revolutionary product. Bravo Seachem!

> 3 dayThis is amazing. I completely removed my other filter media because its reducing ammonia so well. I have a new 2.5 gallon tank and have been struggling with ammonia levels for a month. this fixed the problem in a day. I even had some new snails die and I didnt notice for a few days (thought they were just unusually shy) and the ammonia levels stayed within the safe range. Again, the day after I removed the dead snails, ammonia levels dropped to near zero. I have not tried recharging it with bleach yet; I havent had it long enough. Note: some customers have mentioned that particles from the pouch escaped into the tank. I was wary of this so I put the purigen bag inside another filter media bag I bought from the local pet store for under $1. There are no loose purigen particles in my tank.

05-06-2025Added this to a mesh bag to fill out the last fluval basket in my filter. Made the water so clear I was actually surprised. The fact you can reuse it makes it a great value. I added this to the filter setup about a month after adding seachem matrix to help fight my nitrate problem. No complaints so far, happy with seachem products and this is highly recomended.
