My first purchase of the bag with the purigen was great, however this new bag broke open at the seam after a week of use. Luckily I noticed the little beads before I hooked my filter back up. I tried to melt the bag back together but it did not work. Luckily I had some zip ties to close the bag back up. The product however does seem to work well. I have two turtles in a 55 gallon tank, with a Sun Sun canister filter, and put the purigen in the top basket. My original bag turned tea colored brown in about 3 months, so I ordered another bag as a back up for when Im recharging. The recharging for me also took two soaks in bleach to get the bag back to its original color.

When it comes to keeping excess nutrients and other not so great stuff under control, we as Marine Aquarists do our best, but at times things just get away from us. I consider Purigen to be my chemical balance insurance policy. It wont do much if your salinity is out of whack, granted, but as far as phosphates or other nasties, itll do so much better than carbon ever could. And, if you trust yourself to treat it properly, after the grains have gone from white to very brown/black, you can bring it back to life with a chlorine soak and then a chlorine neutralizer. But then, at 1 bag per 100 gallons, and $9 (my local fish store wants $12) and Prime shipping, why not just get new and remove the risk of chlorinating your fishy friends? If youre on the fence, try it, you certainly wont regret it and it really cant hurt anything.

Weve been struggling with fish surviving. They just kinda make it day to day. Not really active like they should be. I bought a water test kit on a whim and found our nitrate level was CRAZY high. Ordered this. Within 24 hours the water was completely different and the fish were more active! After another 24 hours, again seeing improvement in the fish. And I love the fact its rechargeable!

I bought this product to help clear up aquarium water that was turning brown with tannins from drift wood. I had soaked the wood everyday for two weeks before adding it to the aquarium. Apparently it wasnt long enough. Soon the aquarium started looking brown and murky. 50% water change and a new activated carbon filter later seemed to help, but another day or two water was back in its previous state. I decided to try purigen after reading some favorable reviews and i was blown away! This cleared up the water and really brightened the tank. Its been a few weeks since adding the purigen and water has not darkened one bit. I recommend this product for anyone with tannin problems. Although I wish I soaked and boiled the driftwood first, this stuff saved my tank.

Im not sure this works any better than activated carbon. It does lower organics, but I dont see any other benefits in using this. It can be regenerated where activated carbon cannot (at least not in a home setting). But it is a messy proposition with using diluted bleach baths followed by a dechlorination product. I cannot get the product to be as white as the first time use.

I haven’t taken it out of the packaging yet, I’m going to wait until my first filter maintenance to pop this bag in the very top... I’m running a penn plax 1000 on a 55 gallon chichlid tank

Ive used Purigen before but read a review that gave me pause. Fake Purigen a reviewer believed. Bag size was an issue. I purchased it anyway and did a little looking around for video reviews that were recent. Yes the bag is longer in the videos, with a seam down the middle, so I feel what I bought is the real thing. It is in my tank now, and everything seems normal. I guess when I check on the bag to see if it gets discolored, and test my water, I will know if there is such a thing as fake Purigen. I really saw nothing on the Seachem website regarding packaging, but from the videos I saw, I guess they changed the bag. I like the product. Time will tell.

I will say this product is amazing. I am a beginner in the realm of marine tanks. I have a 29 gallon tank and i placed the purigen in the HOB filter. I have refreshed the purigen about 3 times now using the recomended bleach and water solution. I have had no issues with this product and i really think it helps me maintain my tank. My fish tank is overstocked with fish, contains live rock and a clean up crew. I use the fluval c4 HOB filter, as well as a air powered skimmer. Just added a HOB refugium that i made out of an old penguin 350. Again, purigen is amazing!!! And i highly recomend it. You can easily buy 1 pack and have it last a long time with refreshes in bleach. Buy two, and that way you always have one in the tank, while you refresh the other. I would guess i go about 2-3 months between refreshes. They say the beads will turn black, mine turn more of a reddish brown. perhaps i could let it turn more black, but i noticed by the reddish brown time frame, my water parameters start to get out of wack.

This is amazing. I completely removed my other filter media because its reducing ammonia so well. I have a new 2.5 gallon tank and have been struggling with ammonia levels for a month. this fixed the problem in a day. I even had some new snails die and I didnt notice for a few days (thought they were just unusually shy) and the ammonia levels stayed within the safe range. Again, the day after I removed the dead snails, ammonia levels dropped to near zero. I have not tried recharging it with bleach yet; I havent had it long enough. Note: some customers have mentioned that particles from the pouch escaped into the tank. I was wary of this so I put the purigen bag inside another filter media bag I bought from the local pet store for under $1. There are no loose purigen particles in my tank.

Seachem Purigen is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at an excelled rate and capacity.
