be prepared to treat this gently any movement sends the little pebbles through the bag and into you aquarium. Fish will try and eat it . I had one angle fish die after using this . I dont know if it was the cause but within 24hrs the fish was dead.

I noticed a difference in my water clarity the day after using this. I have a 75 gallon tank and while the water was not cloudy I felt it could be clearer. I place this in the top tray of a canister filter and the next day the water was noticeably improved. On advice from Seachem I placed this product in the filter after my Matrix (biological filtration). While they usually recommend placing this before the biological filtration ( for fish only or lightly planted) for a heavily planted tank they recommend after the biological media. The reasoning is that Purigen will remove organic waste from the water before it gets to the biological media and that will lower the production of nitrate as the bacteria wont have as much raw material to turn into nitrate. For a planted tank you want a certain amount of nitrate so you place it after the biological media so the nitrate still gets produced. Even so, it does seem to lower nitrate production even in the biological media > Purigen order as my nitrates dropped from 10 ppm to 5 ppm the day after I installed this. Makes sense as it wont remove all of the organic waste from the water still leaving some raw material. Make sure if you get the loose Purigen that you also get the bag. This stuff is super fine and any standard bag for media will not hold it. The bag that Seachem sells is super fine and made just for this media. A different bag will not hold it. In one day it cleared my water and dropped my nitrates. Did everything it said it would. What more can you ask.

I have more aquariums than Im willing to admit and Purigen is a must in all of them. Not only does it help keep nitrites under control but it also helps polish and clear any water clarity issues. Even if you think your aquarium is clear this stuff makes it CLEAR.

I have a canister filter that Ive been using which up until I got this had activated carbon in it. Never again will I deal with carbon. This is a fantastic product that tells you when it needs to be changed. My water is crystal clear and doesnt have any fishy odor to it at all. Ive been using it about 3 weeks so far. I was hesitant to use bleach to renew it like it said but there doesnt seem to be any issues with it so far. I had to peek at it last week so I figured I mind as well clean it. Love it, love it. Id say Id buy it again but hopefully I wont have to for a very long time.

I use these now in place of carbon. These are reusable and last me about 2 years on my last batch I bought. They require cleaning/regeneration about every 1.5 months at first and then that number will decrease over time as pores of the surface degrades. Even after 2 years, my purigen can still last about 2-3 weeks before needing to regenerate. I actually use double or triple the recommended amount to extend maintenance time. Recommendations: Only thing I would caution others if you are regenerating the product is make sure to RINSE it extremely well of ALL TRACES OF BLEACH. Bleach will kill all your fish instantly/overnight if you do not rinse well. I rinse for 5-10 minutes under running tap water. I then proceed to soak product in triple recommended amounts of prime 95 to detoxify any traces of bleach for 24 hours. Then give it a rinse for another 5-10 minutes under running tap water. There should be zero traces of bleach smell after everything is finished. I dont take any chances when working with bleach so be very through in the rinsing process and your fish will be happy and you will be a happy owner as well.

This stuff is insane. It left my water crystal clear within 24 hours. I have large pieces of driftwood and my tank is self sustainable, meaning I only do a water change once a month and top off when needed. This causes the tannins to build up over time and leave that nasty tint in my water no matter what. Everything Ive tried in the past, it doesnt work like this. This stuff is absolutely incredible and I cannot stress that enough, it also lasts FOREVER and can be refreshed to use again. I will be buying more and using this is any tank I have until the day I die, its that good. It also does not change the water chemistry at all, something I was a bit worried about. It acts like a super powered polishing filter and it does the job incredibly well. So much so that I will be ditching my internal buffer and just throwing more of this in my canister.

I bought this stuff & its great, Ive always had clean tanks but this polishes the water. At first when I read that description I didnt know exactly wtf they were talking about. Best way I can describe it is the my fish look like theyre floating in crystal clear water. Ive yet to bleach it & regenerate it. Ive been hesitant because the thought of soaking anything in bleach & then putting it back into my tank kinda worries me. However, since this stuff is a tad bit on the expensive side Im going to eventually do it & use prime (which is also GREAT) to prep the bag to be put back into the tank. Note to anyone not wanting to buy the welded bag, DO NOT USE any other media bag, I tried going the cheap route & buying pantyhose & I had purigen all over my tank. Buy the bags, or buy the pre-made packages but dont try & use any other media bag besides Seachems unless you want this stuff all over your tank

I have used Purigen for years and it works 10+x better than the best charcoal/carbon products that I have used. Although it is a bit of a pain to regenerate, I wait till I have 8 or more packets follow their directions, and for a couple of $ they are almost like new. I have done this a couple of times now and they still work. Warning !! Always use other seachem products with it especially water conditioners as some slime coat products will foul purigen lost a few packets that way. I like almost all their products any way. From their support forum: The problem with Purigen and slime coat products occurs in the regeneration of Purigen. After using bleach to remove the organics you then soak the Purigen in a dechlorinator to remove the chlorine bleach. Many companies that have a slime coat enhancer in their products use an amine based polymer. That amine can attach to the chlorine creating chloramine. Chloramine is rather stable and can kill your fish when added to the aquarium. A product such as Prime or ChlorGuard will remove the chlorine and does not have any amine based polymer.

Ive been running this in a couple of my tanks for several months now. I replaced the Purigen in two tanks and added Purigen to a third that had never had it. Even my wife and kids noticed how the clarity of the water (which I thought was already clear) improved with the addition of Purigen. I have four large goldfish in a 40 gallon tank and I had just done a water change a couple of days before. Granted the water was cloudy because, due to a leak in the tank I had an algae buildup on the glass which I had just cleaned up right before the water change. After adding the Purigen, the next day the tank looked brighter as if I had turned up the light on it I just had occasion to recharge or replace my Purigen for the first time. The recharging instructions arent complicated but are a little scary. You add chlorine bleach to it which means you must thoroughly dechlorinate it. Most people seem to pull this off just fine, but I did find a couple of message boards where people had left residual chlorine and killed their coral. Im not running a salt water tank, but for around $8.00 a bag and one bag lasts 6 months, I figure I can afford to replace this rather than replace a whole tank full of fish. I think its still cheaper than charcoal, more effective and because of the color change you can tell when its time to replace or recharge it. Maybe next time I will actually try recharging it. I actually went through the process, but then I was scared to put it back into the tank.

I was having major clouding issues. I had tried many products including Clarity just to name a few. I decided to try Purigen. I did make the mistake of not rinsing it enough, all I can say is to rinse it very well. When I first introduced it to the tank, it made the water even more cloudy. Have patience, after 5 days the water is the clearest water Ive ever seen in an aquarium. Anyway, dont write reviews very often but felt compelled to do so as my aquarium is crystal clear thanks to Purigen.

Seachem Purigen is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at an excelled rate and capacity.
