SENNHEISER HD 599 Open Back Headphone, Ivory

2020 and 2021 has been quite something and I have spent a big chunk of it with headphones on, like no other time before.

I bought two sets. One for me, one for my dad. Dad is becoming jr audiophile with his new hiby MP3 player. He plays his lossless audio tracks and .flac files with his gadgets and jbl Partyboxes. I wanted to give him the very best audio player, to play the highest bitrate songs in his collection. And I wanted him to be able to sit and cataloge his music in comfort. That’s were the 599s come in. No more dollar store in ear buds. No Bluetooth ear muffs that need batteries or pairing. No cheapo stereo headphones that don’t fit. The ear cups for the 599 cover my big ass dumbo ears and don’t give my dad or I fatigue from wear. They are NOT noise cancelling, which may be a deal breaker for some, but not for us. Sure, the bass isn’t going to shake your brain, but the fit and sound is near perfect. If I could change one feature, it would be to make the ear cup pads a little deeper. I’ve got big ears and sometimes I bottom out.

As always, a name like Sennheiser can not fail to disappoint. As an avid listener of a wide range of music and audio, I needed some cans that would deliver without costing me a fortune! Luckily, I got a great discount on these headphones, and I had to take the oppurtunity. I was not disappointed. For the price, I was nearly blown away by the sound. Word of warning, however - these are NOT noise-cancelling headphones. They are open back, meaning that the sound is not isolating, and others close in your proximity may be able to hear the output. For me, however, I didnt mind the tradeoff, as the benefit of choosing open-back headphones brings a more open-sounding, and wider soundstage. Thus, the audio I heard when trying these were phenomenal. Sound was almost 3D, it took my listening experience to another level, that my previous, quite cheap headphones couldnt capture. The audio is rich, especially the treble, with a great discernable bass, even if it is open-back. You can also adjust the audio in your device equalizer, or the music applications dedicated equalizer itself - I personally recommend tinkering with the EQ, in case you are looking for a particular sound, or want to bump up certain frequencies or ranges to monitor audio. These cans didnt need much adjusting for my tastes, I just bumped up the lowest frequencies a few levels, and kept the high-end mostly where it was at. I digress - Sennheisers HD 599 headphones are a beauty for the price. For anyone looking to move up in the listening field, I cannot reject advocating for these.

In the begging, the sound was well, but not worth 200 bucks, after EQ the headphones sound a lot better and I really suprized the sound quality.

初オープン型のヘッドホン、どんな音がするのだろうかと楽しみでした。実際視聴してみるとヘッドホンとは思えない透明感というか、スッキリとした音で個人的には文句のない音質で素晴らしい音でした。

I got these to replace some painful sennheiser cheapies for video production work. These are a vast improvement comfort-wise, but are still pretty tight out of the box - Im hoping they will loosen up in time.
