Snappy Tools Plug Cutter, 3/8

> 24 hourI used this to cut plugs for use on my Trex deck --using a scrap piece of Trex decking. It worked perfectly. One hint: This plug cutter is designed to leave a narrowed top to then invert for easy insertion into wood. So, for use in Trex, do not cut to full depth to avoid the tapered top. With Trex you need the full top to match the Trex.

> 24 hourThis guy works great! I had to cut a bunch of plugs for a cumaru deck (cumaru is a Brazilian hardwood that has a 50+ year lifespan but that’s a different story). I tried using a cylindrical plug cutter but, whether I cut fast or slow, made more smoke then plug and by the time I got one cut it looked more like a guinea pig turd than a wooden plug. I picked this one up and it tore through making 70+ plugs in no time and was as sharp as it started out as. I have been very impressed by this plug-cutting but and would highly recommend it do you anybody. It is well worth the price!

> 24 hourI still have the first one of these that I bought 8 years ago! Use it all the time, works perfectly and has NEVER become dull. Ordered another recently, just to have a back-up and the over all size/thickness of the steel has been reduced by 20%. Hope it holds up as good as the first one:)

> 24 hourI got this along with a counterbore set from Snappy - I was able to sink some screws on the underside of a serving board and then hide the holes with custom plugs. It worked well for me. The plugs I cut were a little skinny but that could have been use error and a little run out on the drill press. Since I was not looking for an invisible fit I was happy. The bit is sharp and cut through mesquite just fine. Walnut got scorched a bit but once I lowered the speed of the press it was fine for me. I am an amateur and your mileage may vary. Buy American.

> 24 hourWhen set up in the drill press with a positive stop, this cutter reproduces perfect plugs from hardwoods.

> 24 hourAfter reading many poor reviews of other plug cutters, I decided to spend the extra few dollars for this one. Im glad I did, as it seems to do the job well. I cut a couple dozen plugs out of Butternut (havent cut anything hard with it yet), and I got pretty clean results. I gave it 4/5 stars only because it came covered in a black sooty coating, which was a bit of a mess. I know its to protect from rust or whatever while in storage, but an oil or wax coating would be nicer. Not a big deal.

> 24 hourDoes cut a 3/8” plug cleanly and with a nice tapered end if you drive it all the way down. I’ve cut about 30-35 plugs in hard sapele and I have had no problems at al. I use my drill press on the slow speed- that’s important. And it cuts the hard wood well. It does heat up some after about our plugs I stick it in some water and start again.

> 24 hourMore junk. Completely dull. Doesn’t even come close to cutting a decent plug.

> 24 hourHad a product like this years ago and it worked very well but it disappeared. Bought this product to cut plugs out of 1/8 poplar. Even though this product looks exactly like my old cutter, it does not perform anywhere near as well. Using the slowest speed on my drill press and not forcing the cut, the product still overheated and produce a raggedy looking plug.
