(UPDATE JULY 2017) A few months after installing its rusting, even in places where the paint is intact. You might expect rust where the latch connects and the paint wears off, but its rusting even on the back plate where theres no wear. Im guessing it will look pretty bad in a year although it will probably keep working because of the thick construction. I have to say the paint job and quality are not great. A different material instead of plain steel might work better, or galvanizing before painting.

We have a three-rail split rail fence with metal gates. I was really frustrated with the chain and carabiner we originally had on the gates and purchased this. With this latch, you can open the gate with one hand, and you can open it either way. Everyone who has seen or used the gate is impressed. Its an excellent value.

I use these for all of my gates. My goats cant unlatch them. They seem durable. My oldest ones are 3 years old and not showing signs of age.

I wish I had allowed wider gaps between posts and gate to allow the installation of this item on other gates that I had built. . When building, allow the required space for the latch. ESPECIALLY on gates you use often. Sturdy enough to withstand my re-engineering of it... to fit a square pipe gate.

Would be nice if where it says HARDWARE included the sell would mention that you get NO hardware/screws to attach these to a fence post. Next time Ill just buy things like this at Tractor Supply. It may cost a touch more, but Ill get everything needed for the job.
