Strathmore 566-5 500 Series Hardbound Mixed Media Art Journal, 5.5 x 8.5, White, 32 Count

I am using this as my art journal. I do mixed media so the heavy weight paper is great. The edges can still curl with the initial wet application ( like gesso) but do flatten after adding my paint, etc. I do not glue pages together; the pages are heavy enough that the mediums and paint do not affect the other side. I will never be able to close it flat because of the added bulk of paper, paint, modeling paste, etc, but I tie a ribbon around it and it adds to the artsy-ness of it. I will purchase another when this one is full.

Ive used the soft cover version of this sketchbook forever ago so I thought Id buy it again. And I notice a slight difference in the paper but I still like it overall so far. - the paper is pretty smooth and handles water relatively well. It buckles if too wet but I usually tape down when painting so its fine. I feel like compared to thicker or more absorbent paper theres a slight learning curve. Sometimes it dries patchy because of how easy the paint lifts. If you wait for stuff to dry u can get a few layers out of it. Colors do show nice on it and I put a few pictures of different color paints from different brands. I probably wont use this as my go too book for watercolor, but thats just me. Im still looking for something a bit different. I didnt try gouache a lot but it works pretty well in here too. Overall I think its worth a shot to try this sketchbook if you wanna do some quick sketches or thumbnails but if you like doing super completed watercolor work maybe not the best for that

The cover and binding is very nice, I like the quality of the paper. As I have not use this paper in bound form before, only time will tell about how it holds water and how much it curls etc.

Amazing sketchbook, strathmore is always talked about amongst artists and for great reason. This sketchbook is perfect, high paper quality, great binding, would recommend to most.

Ive been looking all over for a multimedia visual art journal and Ive finally found it! Amazing quality, pages work amazing will all different kinds of art mediums! Definitely will render again!

I ordered this sketchbook from Amazon because it was much cheaper here than buying locally in Sydney. However, Amazon really messed it up by putting it into a bubble-lined envelope too thin for its weight and shipped it half way across the world. Needless to say, it arrived in a tattered yellow satchel, torn and taped back by Australia Post, with all four corners of the book crushed. Apart from being in such a sorry state, I was quite delighted at the quality of the sketchbook. The surface is slightly rough but pretty and it smells quite woody, for the lack of better words. There are roughly 64 pages, doubling up to meet the 128 pages using both sides of a sheet. To get it to lay flat, I just fold it backward. The stitching is strong so there shouldnt be a problem bending it this way. So in conclusion, apart from having to glue and fix the corners, the sketchbook is a joy to use. Surprisingly enough, my soft cover arrived later without any damage. Could it be that soft covers are handled more gently than hardcover books during shipment? We might never know. Recommended, but please support your local art stores whenever possible.

perfect size for a sketchbook and excellent quality paper. very well bound book

El cuaderno no decepciona, no es caro y tiene buena presencia. El papel es de 300 gr, pero no lleva ni un gramo de algodón. La reseña no es engañosa porque en ningún momento habla de la composición del papel. No obstante, para los distraídos como yo, es bueno saber que el papel es de pura celulosa, lo que no es lo ideal para pintar con acuarela.

Strathmore is a great brand for journals, but this is my ultimate favorite because it is THIN and I travel with this everywhere.
