The TP-Link APs deliver a lot for the money. Currently using in-home with multiple SSIDs and VLANs. Clean and simple interface. Works perfectly with my FortiGate 30e, for when you dont want to pay $300 for a single AP.

Maybe I got a bad unit, but the signal drops on mine *constantly*, with the EAP245 v3 on 2.21 firmware from 18 August 2020. Unfortunately, the only solution Ive ever seen online for this issue is to upgrade the firmware. Well, I have. Repeatedly. And frankly the problem got worse. It is especially bad with mobile devices, and my phone has terrible issues with this WAP (iPhone 11 Pro Max). The issues arent as bad with my iPad Pro, but connectivity still drops. I thought maybe the unit was restarting itself repeatedly during the day, but no, it never shows an uptime reset, so that isnt what is happening. I have tried multiple patch cables, multiple locations in my house, and even multiple PoE switches (Ubiquiti and TP-Link). None of these have resolved this issue. When it does stay connected, the speeds are great! 700-800Mbps for 5GHz wireless AC clients, but the 2.4GHz performance is abysmal, with often sub-50Mbps speeds. My Apple TV 4K cannot even stream 1080p reliably on the 2.4GHz band, but has no issues (until the signal drops) on 5GHz. I dumped all of my Ubiquiti gear to get away from their needlessly complicated management system and thought the TP-Link was the answer to my prayers. I have had great with all of the other TP-Link devices Ive ever used, and I have an Archer C9 in a closet that was rock solid (where a UniFi AC Lite was not at all). Unfortunately, that Archer is going back on duty as I cant take these constant signal drops any longer. I have also tried playing around with manually setting the 2.4/5 channels, as well as letting the firmware do it for me. None of them have fixed this issue, and its been 3 months since a firmware update so either TP-Link thinks they fixed it, or I have a hardware issue and Im now out of warranty.

Thanks to PoE feature you can place it wherever network cable can reach. Installation on the wall and ceiling is very easy with all hardware provided. 5Ghz signal strength is not uniform. Signal is weaker from the side with the green led. I get about 200Mbps through two drywall walls, 40ft away. With same device I get 400Mbps from 5ft away. Based on my testing I was getting better horizontal coverage when installed on the wall, not ceiling. There are no ventilation holes so I would be concerned installing it in unconditioned space.

I now have 3 of these in my home. Note: I do have the cloud controller and do recommend you getting one. Makes adding and monitoring really easy. I can now move through my property with strong signal in every room.

A friend of mine built a new attached garage/man cave at his house. His ISP provided wireless routers AP just wasnt able to give him any meaningful coverage in the new addition. I bought the EAP245 V3 from here on Amazon and then I spent a couple of hours getting it installed. About 90% of that time was used getting the cable run to the AP location. Through the basement, up inside of a wall and across an attic. The included bracket worked just fine but we substituted some different screws so that it could attach to a metal ceiling. I used the included power injector and connected it to the existing switch using a patch cable. The AP got an IP address from the router DHCP and I found it and logged in. I used most of the stock settings but I turned down the power in both bands. I turned on band steering and set up passwords, assigned an SSID etc. Right away in testing the signal strength and speed was very good. There was a bunch of stuff that hooks up via wifi, Nest cameras etc. We got all of that stuff working and after I left my friend called me and said that the coverage inside of the rest of the house is tremendously better than what he was getting with the original AP. I explained to him that using any POE powered AP gives you a big advantage simply because it can be placed so much better. Up high on the ceiling in the new garage puts it about 16ft above the floor which really helps. Overall I think that this TP link AP looks ok. It is pretty big but in a large open area like this garage it blends in just fine. Spend the time pulling some cable and youll be rewarded with very effective wifi coverage from this AP.

I was looking to purchase an access point but had several questions regarding the TP-Link EAP245. I emailed customer support and less than 24 hours I received a detailed response to my questions. A couple of days later I had a few more questions and what was great I received a response back from Lori from TP-Link the same agent who responded to my previous email, again answering all my questions. It was nice to be able to converse with the same agent so you don’t have to repeat yourself over and over. It only took about 15 minutes to get the AP up and running and the device increased my speed tremendously. Excellent product & Customer Service!

I purchased two of these. I tried installing one in my new pre-wired smart home. I followed the simple set-up instructions -- all THREE versions of ways to set up the item, but nothing worked. I searched online and tried other setup instructions including the last-ditch-effort-this-one-always-works that required me to change the IP address on my computer and wire the AP directly to the computer and ... still nothing (and yes, I used the PoE Injector, so it was powered)! I contacted the support agent, and he talked me through the same steps and to humor him, I did them although I knew in advance the outcome, and once again, NOTHING! He began the process of exchanging it, but apparently that will take a while. He suggested I try the other unit, although I was skeptical and didnt want to open the box. Im glad I did. I worked exactly like it was supposed to. I set it up in less than 5 minutes, and I LOVE it. Its as fast and simple as the packaging says! Now back to the broken one ... I decided it would be faster to exchange the broken item with Amazon rather than wait for TP-Link to go through all the steps they require to exchange it. I got the replacement in 4 days. Yay! But, when I opened it to install it ... same problems as the first one! DOA! So, back it goes to Amazon, and I will wait for TP-Link to make the first one right with an exchange. Long story made short, the one out of three that really worked is pretty great. But with two of the three I received being outright failures, I simply cannot endorse this product even as easy, blazing fast, and affordably priced the one working model actually was! By the way, Im no computer genius, but I do hold a Masters Degree in Management Information Systems and a couple certifications in network security, so trust me, I shouldnt have had this much trouble installing these Access Points! I am very disappointed. I suspect you may be too. But on the possible chance you get one of the working ones, it may be worth the try .. if you have the time and the patience.

I did the controller option, using an old raspberry pi I had and installing based on a article I found. I am using to cover my home office and my home. Along with the outdoor unit, (EAP 225), if zoom calls take me over working hours. The transition between the two is seem-less, with both being connected via Ethernet. I thought I could have gotten away with one, and i would have covered a full 1300 sq ft space. Assuming it is the walls, made of solid block. The coverage as expected impacts the 5 GHZ band only. Had to re-purpose an older access point, that i was going to give away, to fill a weak spot with the 5 GHZ channel. Even with 2 bars, still got plenty performance, as my internet package is not that fast in my area, but my phone got really hot.

Wanted to add a second WAP to my home. Seeing as how a while back I purchased a EAP245 V1.0 and it has been rock solid and fast, I thought Id get another one. Well, the V1.0 is no longer available. No big deal, Ill get the new V3.0. Ill say the new one works just fine, but heres where it gets quite stupid. EAP245 V3.0 requires Omada Controller Software V4.1.5. The EAP245 V1.0 I have was running on V3.2.10 Omada controller software. Okay, no big deal, Ill just upgrade. I upgrade to find out V4.1.5 is not compatible with EAP245 V1.0. Okay, no big deal, Ill just install both versions. I try to install V3.2.10 again and it tells me I need to uninstall V4.1.5 before installation can proceed. Really TP-Link??? You guys cant make the same software work for two different revisions of the same model and then you cant install both versions of the required software on one PC to manage them both??? For fk sake people.

So, I ordered and installed in the beginning of October 2020. Has been working very nice. But, 2 hours ago it just died. Power light comes on solid Green, but nothing. No wifi, no response on the network (Layer 3 or 2). Tried resetting, no light response to the reset button at all. It seems like the internal flash storage on the unit just died. So, not booting into its Firmware/OS. Has been working flawless via a PoE Switch link all this time. For $99, it was good. But, having to now replace it after 6 months has me second guessing my choice.
