Just needed a switch to split my ethernet port. Did the job. Easy, cheap, simple.

I bought this switch so that I can get the two on my PC connected to my local network with only one cable coming from the Router. The switch is connected to the Router, which is 2 rooms away, and the two of my pcs are connected directly to this switch. I performed a simple ping test for you guys: The time my PC, connected to this switch, needs to contact the Router is around 3 ms. The time it takes for the two personal computers, both plugged into this switch, to communicate with one another is just 1ms. That being said, I genuinely recommend this switch.

I have purchased about 6 of these 5 port switches over the last few years. I recently had a need to purchase a new one. They have ruined this product aesthetically. It looks cheaper than it did and the power port has been inexplicably moved to the side. (It was on the back with the other ports). This might not be too bad if a right angle power plug was furnished but this is not the case. So you have all your network cables coming out the back and this relatively big plug hanging out the side. If you never saw the previous design you might not be too concerned about this, but the product used to be superior to what it has become. All too familiar these days. Functionality? The previous products are all in use and doing a fine job. This new model has not been in service long enough to comment.

ok, we bought a few of these at my work to try them out. the first one we tried out lasted about 2-3 weeks. they have a 3 year warranty on them so i called to get a replacement. this was by fall the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER Experienced. i called in and they told me they were busy and would call me back in 30 minutes. i thought .. oh cool. i never received a call. after 2 hours, i called back. before the call i tested it on 3 separate occasions to confirm it was bad. after 30 minutes of troubleshooting she says the problem is with my router. the issue i had was fixed by replacing the switch. i tried to explain to her but she would not take it. finally after 30 minutes of arguing with this lady, i demanded her supervisor. she said she couldnt transfer me, and i said i will not talk to you, only someone else. he actually listened to me and gave me the info i was looking for. you have to create a account on their site, then they send you the address. YOU HAVE TO PAY TO SHIP IT TO THEM. then they ship you a new one... bottom line, we bought the cheap one and new we are paying extra to ship this junk back. we should have just bought a cisco one and saved the headache. NO NOT RECOMMEND DO NOT BUY

Although the switch performs admirably and the metal case has a high-quality feel, I was a bit disappointed about two things: 1) The 5 ports on back are all plastic unlike the 8-port version where they are metal. 2) The speed indicator shows green for 1000 and nothing if the connection is 100 or 10. The 8-port version shows green for 1000, amber for 100, and off for 10, so you can tell whether you have a 100 or 10 connection. At least currently, the pictures show a plastic model which is incorrect - this unit has a metal case. Had I realized this unit couldnt differentiate between a 100 and 10 connection and has plastic ports instead of metal, I would have spent a few more dollars and got the 8-port version, even though I wouldnt use all the ports. I bought both the 8 and 5 port models and installed the 8 port first. I spent a good bit of time trying to figure out why my Apple TV was only connecting at 10 on the 5 port and 100 on the 8 port until I read the instructions and realized the status lights are different. So, theres more difference between the 5 and the 8 besides the number of ports.
