Zoo Med Hermit Soil Coconut Fiber Brick 650g

Perfect for our hermit crabs. Much better than sand or some of the other things we have tried that are specifically for reptiles or hermit crabs but ended up being the wrong consistency for our crabs to crawl in. Make sure this is at least twice as deep as your largest crab, they need to be able to bury themselves when they molt. Sadly, we were not told this when we bought our hermit crabs at the mall and were told that an inch of sand was plenty -- so make sure you educate yourself. This comes in a small brick and then you just add water to it and it expands to be plenty for our 10 gallon tank.

This stuff does expand to be quite alot, but it seems to be mostly a dirt consistently with just a few actual coconut fibers. Your supposed to keep it moist but within days it has mold growing on it. I had to throw away all of our crabs driftwood climbing toys because the mold spread all over them in the cracks and crevices. I have decided to go back to just sand in their cage.

Used about half and mixed with a sand substrate. Hermit crab seems happy :). Product is messy and takes a while to soak and break up.

I put this and within 2 days the pets were dead.

Makes a very large amount. Our Hermit crab likes it.

It’s hard to break a chunk off, but it’s a great price for the amount you get!
