The replacement drive works and, fortunately, is relatively easy to install, even with no previous experience fixing consoles or devices. However, I initially thought it to be broken because the drive was not accepting any disks. I finally noticed that it was missing the white strip that was present on my already broken drive (and the advertised photo), and was able to carefully transfer it over so that it is fully functional. It appears that I am not the first one with this issue. As mentioned by others, the product appears to be used and possibly removed from other broken Wiis (which may explain the missing part). I cannot speak to the quality of the tools included, as I used my own. The response to my request for help by the seller was for me to purchase another drive and then they would refund me $20.

Our system hadnt been used in a while, mainly because the system was very temperamental about accepting and reading game disks. I found a site that walked through the steps to replace the drive (ifixit.com) and then ordered this replacement drive. Product appeared to be new, contrary to a few reviews here. Product arrived in just a few days, and the instructions on the other site were easy enough to follow, and replacement took about an hour or so. Note: you will need Tri-wing screwdriver for the replacement, and using separate containers for screws and parts is very helpful when disassembling and reassembling. Once everything was back together, the system fired up and works like new. Couldnt be happier.

Use YouTube to learn how to open the Wii console and diagnose problems with your Wii before buying. A helical gear was cracked on the Wii disc drive; therefore, this fixed the problem. This will not fix laser problems.

My Wii broke down awhile ago where it stopped reading disks. After discovering that the disk reader had malfunctioned and was no longer operating properly I purchased this replacement disk reader and installed it myself. It worked perfectly and fixed the problem, now the wii has been working great so far. The reason as to why I rated this 4 stars is because one of the pieces on the inside was loose. It was a rubber part that secured one of the screws. In order to reattach the rubber piece I had to open up the disk reader. When I did so, I noticed that there was a ton of dust and other particles trapped inside. I cleaned it, but was disappointed that the company selling these parts did not clean them properly. It makes me wonder if they even opened it or checked the inside before shipping it off. You can refer to the picture to see how much dust was trapped inside. Overall, I am happy that it fixed the issue.

Our Wii console had the issue where the system would start up and display the Wii menu on the TV, but the tile for the DVD game disc would never load the small preview and would show an error about reading the disc when you tried to select it. After following some detailed drive replacement instructions online (and cursing those Tri-wing screws left and right), I finally got it replaced. The Wii works normally now and the kids have been playing off and on for a couple weeks. So far, so good! My only tip would be to be very careful with the tri-wing screws. Some of mine were in rather tight and both the tri-wing driver and the tri-wing screws would round out and wear out. Ultimately, I had to use my dremel to very carefully cut a straight flat slot in the last tri-wing screw in order to get it out. Then, I did the same to all of the other screws in order to be able to reassemble. If you can find flat or Phillips replacements for the various screws, I would recommended doing that. But that tip is irrelevant of this DVD drive part. So far the part is doing as advertised.

Received a D4ver.2 unit. Plugged it up and works fine. Unit is clean and no signs of wear/abuse. Will follow up in future with update and reliability.

Never fixed anything in my life before. You tube videos with step by step information on how to do it helped a lot. Buy the triwing screw driver set if you don’t have one.

Easy to install with help of YouTube. Works again!!! Have a RVL-001. So far so good week one!

Replaced the Wii drive that was not loading the disc and making grinding noises. This one so far is working great. Kids are playing the games we have had for years. The install was easy by just watching a video on YouTube. Easy and straight forward took about 30mins.
