Greater than one weekThese ferro rods are way over hyped. They require significant pressure and long strokes to work. They tend to form ripples and have to be filed down. I agree with some others here that there are much better rods out there that function much better. The ones to look for are the ones that you can get a large spark just stroking the first 3/4 of the rod and not having to use real heavy pressure. You can test a ferro rod with a file. If it takes a long heavy stroke to generate sparks, my suggestion is to find a different rod where a light stroke with a file will easily generate sparks.

> 3 dayWhile using a flint or ferrorod to start a fire always takes practice, its easier and more consistently reliable to use a larger ferro as the sparking surface is longer, creating better sparks, but also the heavier weight and larger size is more stable. For consistency, ease of use, the bayite is a good choice.
